I Kinda Bought This 1996 BMW Z3 (1.9 5-Speed)

This '96 BMW Z3 has been in the stable for just about a year now, and it's finally ready to move on to its next caretaker! I've spent the last year getting this thing into tip top shape, and am super proud of how it turned out.

My mother had a 1999 2.8 5-speed and it was a blast. The torque from the 2.8 I6 made it such fun, forgiving package.

Yeah, I've got a '97. You are correct. It's under powered but it is fun. It's quiet, which I like. The only problem is that everything is so expensive to fix. Mine has 128k. But I'm not allowed to have a motorcycle so I got this. I wish I got the V6. But it does get a lot of looks...

Do you have any thoughts on the E34, specifically the 535, 530, or 540? I have an 89 Mercedes 300SE, and, as much of an incredible, couch-like joy as it is to drive, I'm really missing the manual experience and I cannot stop discovering rust! (also, the transmission is dying! Hooray.)

A really cool engine swap would be an S14 from an E30 M3. Ideally an S14B25 EVO3 with 235 hp. 100% financially irrational, but too cool to pass up if someone with deep pockets and connections could source such a thing (import an S14 EVO3 engine from Europe). I'm sure you could mimic an S14 with similar parts for FAR cheaper considering an M44 block is related to the S14. Yet another insane swap would be with an S42B20 from a German Super Tourenwagen Cup car... 276 hp to 315 hp depending on spec. One can dream... Maybe I can plant the seeds with someone with the means with such an utterly ridiculous fever dream.
