Both movies are "prequel"-setup movies for a big superhero team-up film, that provides a backstory for a very honourable shield-wielding superhero whose origins lie in Europe during a world war. Both movies end with a guy called steve, played by a guy called chris, sacrificing themselves to destroy a plane carrying a dangerous secret weapon of supernatural origin, while fighting germans led by a commander with a hidden agenda, who rebels against his superiors because they stop supporting his project, and then has a modern day epilogue.
