Shel, this video is just what I needed as I'm dismantling my old K75. The STRING trick is going to be a lifesaver when I'm putting everything back together. Thanks!!
Good job Shel helped me heaps.Got to keep these 75s's running. There so smooth & its fun to alternate between the K & my old flat.Sincere Thanks fo you vids.S
Shell! Love it!!! String, who would have thought. Can obviously applied to other problems as well. Also, LOVE the bike being chained to the house. Better safe than sorry I always say. Mine are chained to either side of the garage in a long bike line.
Peter Ramadge Hi, thanks for your comments, it took me a good 20 mins of faffing to figure that strung would keep the clutch pack in place! The troubles of a sole worker, if I can help others avoid these pitfalls my job here is done! The bike must be chained up because bike theft in the U.K. is at an all time high, sadly there are gangs just going around stealing bikes... even hi-jacking bikers at traffic lights! Also the lock helped serve a purpose of anchoring the front wheel down - if you see I ratchet strapped it too.
Peter Ramadge oil and petrol is cancer forming ... but also my day job is very different to my hobby and I need nice clean hands! I work in schools and colleges to help young people with special needs to get placements in schools, colleges, and work ... which means I have to be 'presentable'. I get a box of not rule gloves from eBay for a few quid. I try not to think about the environmental impact of using them though, and always dispose of them safely.
Shel I always have a box of gloves in the garage to keep all the crap off my hands. I usually look at that box when my hands are half crappy and think....shit, why didn't I put some gloves on before I started. Einstein apparently said Insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I don't expect different results, I just keep forgetting to put the damn gloves on. Am I insane or did Einstein know a lot about physics and stuff but not much about motor bikes? Alternatively I could be just a typical bloke. Who knows?
Assuming you are asking about the clutch friction plate, sorry I do not know exactly. I think approx 5.5mm and will check the manual. Otherwise, contact Motorworks UK who will be able to state the thickness.
Top stuff! I'm about to buy a K1100RS 96 variety, any advice on what to expect or ask about on a 56K miles bike, looks pretty good but other than basic servicing as Manuel says "I know Nothing"
Thanks for your feedback! Mileage is not such an issue with these bikes, but what matters is how ling they have been sitting as the rubbers tens to perish. Key things to look for or ask about are: has regular servicing been done? (No need for dealer servicing stamps if the owner looks half competent then likely they're as good as a dealer for servicing as these are not complex bikes to maintain.) Ask if the splines have been lubricated, drive shaft spines more important for regular servicing than clutch splines. Check the bottom of the engine and gearbox for oil weeps. If oil is weeping from an inspection hole between the gearbox and main engine then likely there's a seal gone and this can be costly - not in parts but in labour as the bike needs splitting. If there's oil weeping aft of the gearbox, so near the driveshaft then it could be the gearbox output seal or most likely the pushed rubber - both are cheap and easy to replace. If there is a weep near the front of the engine then this could be the seal for the oil filter - the filter is submerged in the engine. Or right at the front of the engine is the water pump, there is a seal which goes and either there is a water leak or an oil leak. Check the usual things like clutch action, it should be smooth, it is cable operated. The rubber on the rear brake master cylinder can perish. If it still has rubber brake hoses I highly recommend replacing them with stainless/braided hoses. Overall, these are usually very reliable bikes, want for little, and are easy to maintain. Enjoy!
Thanks for your comment. Yes there 'should' be three manufactured balance marks but they were not on my clutch pack when I removed it hence making my own white mark, which is shown in the video.
Rob Bowker sure do gotta live a snow day! I've got loads more to do too - gearbox, spines, etc ... Though I have to shovel snow today as it's getting ridiculously high here and it's not cleared by council due to being private land.
That does spline need to be lubed? Is no lube ok Is lubing with staburags ok Is it in the Clymer book or any other reference The on line aficionados say “ no”, none” What say you?
All drive splines need lubrication. This is in all manuals (Haynes/Clymer/BMW). Use a high content Moly lube. Staburags is recommended. Do not use too much lube on the engine output to clutch pack spline as the grease can fly off onto the clutch friction plate and cause it to slip.
Fortunately the only thing on my GB that's needed replacing was the output shaft seal. I once popped the lid off to take a look inside at the gears to check conditions of the cogs etc and it was all fine so I promptly put the lid back on - if it ain't broke, then don't fiddle either it, haha!
I actually think you was supposed to comment like this: 'Thanks for thanking the time to film, edit, and upload this helpful video. I didn't like the music so I decided to mute it while watching, but to each their own.' You're welcome!

Thanks for your positive feedback, glad to help keep the Bricks flying!
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to make it.

String not strung, lol!
The other thing I noticed was that you put gloves on before you get your hands dirty. Great innovation, I will try to remember that.

Very good job, great shown how you can do it yourself. Best regards.
Thank you. I have just done my gs twice because the supplier sent the wrong pressure plate and they look very similar!
Job well done.
helmut steinbach Thanks! Got there in the end! It)'s tricky being a solo worker at times!
Shel Does Stuff-I didn't fancy doin' it without my friend
Is this the BMW high-performance string used here?
Sir, could you send me a link for a copy of the maintenance manual for the k75s? I just got one of these amazing machines 😀
What is the thickness of the cylinder disc while it is new in millimeters? Thank you very much

@@sheldoesstuff2753 Thanks for the info, I had one years ago and never had any problems here's hoping this will see me out!
@@sheldoesstuff2753 You are very knowledgeable about this type of motorcycle. Best regards .
there are 3 white marks you have to align and they are set in a Y by the clock would be 10/2 and 6 is for balance
Thanks for your comment. Yes there 'should' be three manufactured balance marks but they were not on my clutch pack when I removed it hence making my own white mark, which is shown in the video.
Damn fine Shell. Do we have the big snow to thank for you getting time to edit and upload this? Thanks!

The splines of the clutch housing doesn't need to be lubricated! It is lubricated by engine oil. But you need to lubricate on gearbox side
Curious to know if you've ever replaced the gearbox on a k75. ??
Fortunately the only thing on my GB that's needed replacing was the output shaft seal. I once popped the lid off to take a look inside at the gears to check conditions of the cogs etc and it was all fine so I promptly put the lid back on - if it ain't broke, then don't fiddle either it, haha!
Waarom zou politie niet zelf zo een reparatie doen.
Momentsleutel is ook gestolen.
Of het koppelingskabel is, ben bang van niet.
Zwaar moment.
Het boek ligt naast mijn bed, hoofdgeneraal.
Ik zie ook 2 kabels hangen.
Shit music ruins a video mate
The music is terrible makes the video unwatchable
