I get a raging hard on for these things. It's sad to see the Shuttle go, but great to know we are moving forward to the future and seeing new technology! There's kind of a space shuttle program still in the form of the tiny RC shuttle that has went to the space station etc... But the Shuttle will forever live on in our hearts!

Isn't it amazing. some kids who were fortunate enough in their lives to grow up with those model rockets, grew up to be flight commanders in actual human-fairing rocket launches. I know this is almost ancient history at this point, but it still amazes me to the point that I'm stuck in a state of awe every time I see a rocket launch. Its just like. WOW! THIS IS HAPPENING! HUMANS MADE THIS HAPPEN! IT'S GREAT TO BE ALIVE! It's just so amazing to me still!

I'm lucky to say that I was there, seeing this shuttle launch. I remember the night before all the newscasters were saying that it was highly unlikely that the launch would occur the next morning, due to the poor weather conditions. I had taken a airplane all the way down from Massachusetts to see it, so I kept on thinking good thoughts. Luckily, the weather shifted and I got to see my first NASA launch! 🙂

Was fortunate to be there by the VAB with a group of super cool business associates and friends for this historic launch and mission - As a Software Mission Assurance Engineer I've supported a number of major space programs over many years and this event was definitely the most emotional experience I've ever had at a launch - Even though key facets of the program did not turn out as expected relative to cost, etc. it was still an amazing achievement by thousands of personnel across many functional disciplines - Well done, mega stoked to have played a small role... \m/

Not to mention the entire group effort it takes & how important it is for everybody to be on the same page. The intensity of it. It,s sad the shuttles don,t fly anymore. Those fantastic flying machines had to be retired. They had served us so many good years in space and 2011 it was all over. God bless Challenger and Columbia that gave their lifes (astronauts) for mankind in space. It has been years of exitement but now the shuttles had to go, sad. I saw Atlantis in KSC in june 2017 and I had the time of my life seing this ultimate machine. So now the world has to go on and folks will soon be able to go back to space again and continue where the shuttles left. God bless them all who flew them.

It's hard to believe the shuttle era is over, after the many missions of the 80s and 90s and last decade. America was ahead of everyone else all those years and seemed to be on the cutting edge of technology. I wonder what will be next or have we reached the limits of how far we can go?
