- 50 years ago a Virginian roared into the history books and galloped his way to greatness. In his “I Have a Story” Greg McQuade shows us how Secretariat is being remembered a half century after capturing the Triple Crown and leaving competitors in the dust. Secretariat was born at The Meadow in Doswell in 1970. Three years later the massive colt shattered records at The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness and Belmont Stakes that still stand today. He is considered one of the greatest athletes in history. Kate Tweedy - the daughter of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery - says witnessing Secretariat toy with his competition was a thing of beauty.
I truly believe that in Secretariat God created the most perfect horse ever created!
His team was the perfect team for the perfect horse.

Aw, I am so happy to see Miss Kate Tweedy carry on her lovely mother's legacy. "Miss Penny" once said (paraphrasing) that "Secretariat is a horse, and can't talk - so I will do the talking for him." The greatest horse to ever touch the racetrack made by God we needed something super because we just got out of Nam and everybody was demoralizing this nation he brought joy and sensationalism back to this great nation the best
No 3 year old has ever put together a string of three straight races in record time…one a world record that will stand forever. He was an amazing race horse.

I have watched so many videos of SECRETARIAT that when I see a different one the like is already thumbs up . The speaker said no other horse before or after has broke his records and I believe there never will be another do it the way he did .😊

I was nine years old going on 10 watching the last leg of the Triple Crown. I wouldn’t let anybody near our TV in the family room. I’ll never forget it! Secretariat is a legend❤ I knew at the time I was watching history in the making. I know in my lifetime, there will never be a more-magnificent thoroughbred😊

I was 19 back in '73 when Big Red left us all speechless. I watched the Kentucky Derby in California, the Preakness in West Germany, and the Belmont in Okinawa..three races, three continent. Thank you, United States Army..that was one of the highlight of my well-being//

A bit late answering - In 1999, ESPN ranked Secretariat No. 35 in its list of the Top 50 North American athletes of the 20th century, the only non-human on the list. No other horse made the cut.
God made this horse to show humans what we are capable of.

I humbly disagree. When Secretariat was healthy and rode properly he was virtually impossible to beat. The triple crown is the most coveted prize in horse racing. It’s not just that he won the Triple Crown. Half a century later he still holds the record for best time in all three races. That’s surreal. His Belmont vIctory was the greatest performance by a thoroughbred in recorded history. No modern day horse can even sniff at that time. They say records are made to be broken. His world record for a mile and a half may never be broken as they said 50 years ago. A supernatural performance that didn’t seem possible until he did it. Based on the clock which is what horse racing sets the standards by he is untouchable. If he wasn’t syndicated and ran as a four year old he would have been dominant and his legacy would have been even greater if that’s possible. The term GOAT is always subjective. I’m 60 and I’ve never seen a horse that was better and I don’t think I will in my lifetime. Big Red was the people’s horse and that is the legacy he leaves.

I have not seen him but I was really touch the moment I read his story and watched his runs in the oval thru UA-cam. I cried with joy, my eyes were filled of tears because of my admiration for SECRETARIAT, a beautiful and very smart horse.... I LOVE SECRETARIAT.
