@@JesusChristFitness_Official that’s the trick, chest is far away from leg day (in most 4 to 6 day split) so fatigue don’t make you put less effort on calves. One alternative would be to hit calves first and fresh on leg days
Been training my calves twice a week so far only doing 2 sets on the standing calf raise machine, it's been a wonder and in my first year lifting i'm up to 375lbs for 21 reps.
I work calves with weights twice per week. I also do high incline walking on the treadmill before every workout. This works for me. I had skinny calves until my 30's. This helped develop my calves alot.
One thing Jay said is that he does calves on his chest day, which is about every five days or so. That means he is probably doing a bro split. A lot of people talk about hitting your body parts multiple times a week. I feel like if you have a really good chest day, or arm day. And you really hit the muscles properly and beat the hell out of yourself., there is no way you are going to be able to hit that muscle again specifically more than once a week. Maybe a light set day if anything but it has to be after day 4 past that training day. for example, I hit arms on Monday. On Wednesday they are still sore as shit. So maybe Saturday if they feel better, I will do a workout routine, which incorporate some arm movements hitting the biceps and triceps, but I won’t go real heavy. It will just be a few sets light to moderate weight. Then I’ll have another day on Monday.
@@ninjaman7123 Bro what I will literally kill my chest till failure on Flat bench incline bench, incline dumbell(all till failure) then partials then dips then pushups till failure will be sore asf day 1and I still feel like my shit is recovered in two days after

I realised that I need to do calves training at least twice a week on top of walking 5kms everyday. Them suckers go away if I stop walking even for a week.
Step one: lose the generics grifter mindset, you will grow your calves no matter your genetics if you work hard, Muscle endurance is not the same as muscular hypertrophy also so your calves won’t grow at all really just by walking

I wonder if Jay has any good tips for training calf’s with free weights? As I only really workout from home now and I don’t have the options a normal gym has
Nobody answered so here goes. Standing calf raises on the smith machine or SCR machine were bothering my mid back so I started doing single leg calf raises holding a 45 lb plate on the side of the leg I was working and holding the side of the smith machine with the other hand for balance. My gym has a step about the height of a red brick that's perfect. If I'm feeling strong I'll do 50 or 55 lb dumbbell. Never found anything that hits the calves better.
I had zero calves and i mean nonexistent calves. You know what I did i trained them every day and you know something else i still train them every day.
He bounces/jerks his muscles don't do that.. I have ripped calves, turn your heels in for a set, toes in for one, straight forward for one, then put another plate. Train them atleast twice a week, (they can take a lot) atleast 10 sets. You'll see the difference in a month.
He's a gym 🏋️♀️ rat 🐀, he works his whole body and does not have the time to focus on calves. If your goal is to grow calves use a stairmaster and try to walk on your toes for 15 minutes every other day or everyday. Dont go over 15 minutes. Jay ,is it a reason you do that double bounce on calves? You raise your calves and then raise them again on the same rep..
haha Exactly
In a different video he says he does it because thats how he can get the most tension in the muscle
That's his signature move he is not only doing that on calf raises.
It’s for a better muscle contraction at the top of the movement

Because you don't grow in the gym, you grow outside of the gym. ✌️
Same for every muscle, deep stretch, ride the tension, control the movement, no bouncing
