Imagine. Instead of 10 hours it’s approximately 60 million years. Just this silence. When the wars of mankind, orks, and Eldar raged on, the necrons were there. In silence. It’s eerie to think about.

No wonder the Necrons are so powerful they got a good night rest.
Yes very good nap but at what cost. Our forces are fractured and fighting petty wars instead of reuniting as one and conquering what is rightfully ours.
The most uncanny thing about this is that despite necrons being asleep, the tomb kind of lives, all of the machinery, traps and canoptek constructs still operate. So if you dare to come in, in this sickening silence eventually you will hear scarabs and wraiths swarming to remove you.

Joel Gawne The necrons are a massive threat to the Imperium. And they’ve barely woken up. The vast majority of them are still sleeping, same with the more advanced dynasties.
And yet it is Szarekh himself, the Silent King, phaeron over the dynastic nobles of the necron race, who came to the determination after millions of years of travel in the intergalactic void of space beyond our galaxy's edge that the Tyranids were the greatest threat to our known universe and that he would rather ally together with all the races of the galaxy - perhaps even reaching out to the hated Aeldari - to destroy the alien devourers rather than maintain its current territorial balkanization that would let let the alien invaders continue to harvest the organic matter of this galaxy (and possibly others as well) until whittled down into a lifeless, clustered collection of stars and rocks.
I think a cool explanation for that rhythmic clanging in the background would be that it’s some kind of countdown that spans millions of years, until the necron army arises to conquer once more. But then again, having no known explanation for it is probably cooler.
Thats what i love about this it sparks the imagination. maybe its is a canoptic construct doing matenance, maybe it is the steps of an overlord or cryptek pacing a throne room waiting for his legion to rise, maybe it is a broken piece of something hanging on by a wire swinging like a pendulum, maybe it is an imperial mining crew about to meet a horrible fate

"While they slumber, the ancient tombs of the Necrons appear to be lifeless, the silent darkness punctuated only by the occasional tomb construct patrolling the desolate halls. However, should a foolish explorer inadvertently awaken the hibernating aliens, they will soon find themselves facing the ancient masters of the galaxy." Upon researching these constructs, it checks out; they're many-legged mechs. It's likely that clanging is from these constructs, slowly crawling around the tombs. When they have to patrol for millions and millions of years, it's likely they don't do it particularly fastly.

It's a Chaos/ Orkish/Imperial mining operation that's coming closer and closer, and is about to find something they REALLY don't want to find. 3.) At some point during the 65 million year sleep, seismic activity has knocked some piece of technology that hangs from the roof free and now it simply dangles there and smashes into the wall as ventilation in the tomb causes slow air gusts.
my necron lord(using my 'target' writing ability(on any who kill me on sight especially)) & tomb stalker commonly safety-mindedly(using tomb reanimation protocols) patrol through this soundscape defended by my flayed ones who are (by the need for warriors to be deployed to an ongoing issue of mine)tasked with collecting more of these warrior related target faces on the patrols.
