  • Certain materials and coatings may need to expand, flex and bend either throughout the production stage, or during the service life of the product they are intended to be used for.
Manufacturers must ensure their coatings or materials are able to withstand the types of stress their products could be subjected to; this could be from a change in temperature to a human or mechanical impact.
The Elcometer 1615 Variable Impact Tester is a simple to use gauge ideal for evaluating the resistance of a coating to impact such as elongation, cracking or peeling.
The Elcometer 1615 base unit kit contains:
    • an impact tester and base with an integrated bubble leveller, a graduated tube and a collar release mechanism
    • a magnifier to inspect results
    • and a 4mm Allen key to assemble the tester.
Depending on the standard you are working towards, you then have the option of seven different kits providing the functionality for various testing methods. Simply select the appropriate kit to meet your requirements and attach the punch, die and accessories to the base unit.
How your results are determined will be dependent on the standard you are working towards. But generally, if your coating remains uncracked after testing, the distance the weight drops from, or the weight itself is increased slightly until the coating fails.
