I'm glad you mentioned the "backward strung." This manner of stringing just doesn't chime like the other manner of stringing. Great video, as always. Thanks.
I had a customer once bring in a 12 string acoustic for a nut replacement. After fabricating a nice, correctly functioning bone nut , the customer promptly took it home and re-strung it Ric style. He said it sounded better. The intonation at the nut must have been horrible..... The horror of out of tune chords on a 12 string...... :(
Leaving half the strings on so the tailpiece doesn't fall off and then holding the new strings in place with a capo to stop them falling out of the tailpiece, leaves both hands free to wind the strings on. This reduces the number of expletives considerably.
Good point. With all the nut work, cleaning and otherwise, leaving any strings on was not an option in this case. Plus I have my ways of Ric wrangling.... :)
IDK.. I've heard of some things done with tele's in the Rickenbacker subject that I believe are true (think Petty and that 12 string sound being done by 2 tele's.. one tuned normal and one high-strung)
I have seen that done. Personally I have actually been guilty of such things. Two out of three guitar players faking a 12 string. No high tuning, just positions in my case.

Love the Ric 12. Wish I had one...... I would let you work on it!!!
Thanks!
No problem!
