I have been there since The Isle started and I got to say, the development speed on PoT is insane compared to any of the other same genre games. It is really starting to shape to be the top game of that genre, imo.

Im not gonna lie, one thing that sways me towards PoT is the community, although both are good communities, i've seen and experienced the bad from both, and i gotta say TI has a lot more of the bad.
TI is beautiful, models are amazing, graphics are insane
PoT is chill, nice graphics, good models, good animations.

Hey Velocci! Any ways J72 you couldn't have put it in a better way, I have played the isle since the giga came out and it has been so fun aswell, but the isles community like u both described has been lets say very toxic and worrisome. I personally also am not a fan of the diet update for lol the same reason aswell, its just kinda unreliable. I personally have never played PoT but the way I see it the future it has is bright and the community is very positive and welcoming. Update on Path of Titans to anyone watching this now days- There is a new map getting ready to be released with many different biomes, nesting is likely to follow soon after it is released from testing. Alongside this it is getting a variety of attacks.

I started with PoT, then tried The Isle. PoT obviously has a faster development and more updates, but what really makes the difference between the two games in my opinion is the way in which you can control your dinosaur...and in The Isle is a 100 times better tbh. In PoT it seems like the character takes a while before responding to your commands and the movements appear slow. This brings to what I consider the other key difference between the two games: the PvP, which in my opinion is again 100 times in favour of The Isle even if at the moment there are a few bugs that make utahraptor kind of the apex carnivorous dino. On the other hand, one big con of TI is the abundance of bugs, something you wouldn't expect from a game 5 yrs old. In my opinion, in the current state, TI is better if you prefer hardcore dino survival with exciting fights and hunts, and PoT is better if you prefer impersonating a dinosaur going around a huge map with some sporadic fights and hunts. In addition, I think PoT is a game really too much unbalanced in favour of playing as a herbi, really too much. The Isle is far from being perfect in terms of finding the right balance for skills between the various dinos, but overall the result is better and you have a gameplay that is more fair when it comes to confront other dinosaurs - something that in PoT is quite far from being true and still need a lot of thinking and work to be done in my opinion. One other big pro of PoT, to me, is that it seems like the devs are really listening to users complaints/advice and are extremely fast in releasing patches to implement them

To be honest I believe that some dinosaurs shouldn't be able to kill some dinosaurs or it should be very very hard or require the far stronger dinosaur to already be hurt. The Isle aspires to be a realistic dinosaur survival game right? Well, in nature not many matchups are balanced either. It is quite realistic that for example an allosaurus wouldn't stand much of a chance against a T-Rex, so I think it probably means as an allosaurus you'd have to run away as soon as you see a T-Rex, unless it is baaadly hurt and you are starving.

For me personally PoT has more appealing graphics, locations and models.
Idk, it's clearly much more simplistic in terms of polygons, but warm colors and map saturated with unique places does its thing. Isle has more of that tropical indiana movie/jurassic park vibes, which isn't my cup of tea.
On the other hand PoT has some wacky defoult-looking animations, the walking and sprinting are awesome, but all tail/claw attacks are pretty meh.
None of that sweet inertia when you stop running. Swimming and diving are pretty basic too. I'm afraid when flyers appear their won't be at least like in TI, but more like in bermuda... if so I'd live without flyers at all haha

I wish flyers in POT are close to flyers in Bermuda. BOB has many problems but the flying animation is probably the best flying animation and control in any dino game. Isle Ptera feels like controlling a stiff kite, it's flaps are like if you're clapping your hands against the air full force to keep it there... One of the main reasons I still play BOB is how smooth the flying of Ptenarodon is, it's CLAMING to get on it and fly over the map, almost like therapy

What it boils down to for me is the focus on in-game community. Isle has removed all sense of community by taking out global chat and the player tab for easy grouping- the game just feels silent and lifeless. It's hard to connect with other people now, and speaking as someone who owes about 90% of her best social memories over the past few years to The Isle, it sucks to see that feature being removed.
PoT obviously has better community focus as the game has global chat + easy grouping, but I have a really hard time enjoying the gameplay. I don't dislike the game but I find the questing to be horribly boring and the combat feels clunky and buggy.
So far Legacy is still my first choice because it's a nice blend of the two games, which sucks bc Legacy is gonna be put down soon anyways. (Not to mention I can't even run Evrima due to rendering issues...)
Btw- great video, I enjoyed watching it. One suggestion I might have though is to lower the background music. It was just about as loud as your speaking voice and was really distracting- I wanted to hear what you had to say a bit better :P

Mix packing is a huge problem that was solved with the removal of global chat. Not knowing what another player is doing or thinking is better (IMO) than just asking them in a chat what's going on. It adds to the feeling fear whenever you might see or hear someone else. It also adds to the immersion that you only really understand your own kind, rather than every dino on the island being able to hear and understand each other 24/7.

@@fowlmarlee it's worth noting that if/when Evrima gets sandbox or a less gameplay-heavy mode it'll most likely have global chat. I simply think (as was said above) that it's to avoid people getting too chatty when you should really be thinking like a dinosaur, rather than a human.

The Isle Devs have said in discord chat that they have deliberately placed the foods together to test interactions between different Dino species for now, in future they fully plan to spread the foods throughout the maps to replicate different biomes, it really is only for current testing purposes that resources are mostly concentrated in one area

With a couple thousand hours in both and being a PoT backer/player since the fundraising days, I personally still favour The Isle, at the time. It goes for quality and detail (which may be why they take so long to update?), it has character, a nicer map (imo, since PoT's Panjura is very monotone and lacks any proper landmarks or varied biomes), is overall well-designed.
PoT lacks some of this, with copy-paste abilities and animations, lackluster calls for some animals, no interesting abilities (yet), lacking balance and uniqueness for different animals, ...
Sure, it already has a big roster, good optimization with nice graphics, but I feel PoT is the one that doesn't really know what it wants to be. The precise movement is nice, the collision is very good, even though there are understandable issues with it, but combat is monotone, abilities feel uninspired and aren't unique right now.
I still prefer The Isle's grittiness and survival, it feels much more immersive, combat feels more engaging and better paced. PoT feels way too forgiving, and thus less rewarding. Animals heal really fast, especially small ones, and on the other hand, they are way too tanky and can take multiple hits from even the largest predators. A pack of small carnivores can literally keep switching and healing within few minutes against most larger animals. This may be because, hopefully, combat and stats in PoT is still placeholder, with many missing abilities. The UI doesn't help either, I personally can't stand it taking up so much space in the center of the screen. I'm sure they have their reasons, but development focus keeps switching as well, so any single aspect is slowly being chipped at instead of completed at a time. For now, while Isle has less animals, what it DOES have feels more developed and fleshed-out. I prefer accurate models, which PoT has, but then it lacks in realistic animations, combat, etc.
So while the Isle took liberties with the animals (for some more than others), the core gameplay feels more immersive, unique and realistic than PoT. I feel more like I really am the dinosaur in the Isle, even without emotes (which I like about PoT). Even with more accurate dinosaurs, PoT looks like it takes itself less serious. I love playing solo, which is something that PoT seems to discourage as well, with clan functions coming up and group buffs (while groups are already more powerful by themselves). Both games have devs that made questionable decisions in the past, neither are really people I'd praise (talking about lead devs, their respective teams seem amazing) but that's another story.
Mind you, this is my own two cents, and I understand both games are still in active development. I largely agree with the video as well. In the end, it comes down to personal preference. If you love dinosaurs and paleo-games, get both, you'll probably enjoy them either way.

I never played a map i get so much lost and need so much time to navigate than the evrima map... its forest i cant see shit, ,forest, forest, field, field and the only landmarks are mountains, 3 stones here and a river there. And the Updates in the isle are slow and lack of quality, cause the new features always bring in crazy ton of heavy bugs and are half done. Take the food systhem, they now complete overhaul it and change it cause they half done implement it at the start. The map, they have to make a complete new one cause they cant manage to optimize and bring in the full old one, its still only half the size. The nesting systhem, absolute waste of development and useless, noone use it. The gore update didnt bring any gameplay relevant features and not many new visual aspects, where are all the blood and viscera they promised, where are the permanent scars that should be in that update? But cool you can carry a hearth and a liver around. Over one year and no new Dinosaur in a game, that lacks dinosaur species at the moment. All signs they have absolute none idea to develope a game. I personally left The Isle after the long development cycle, lead dev emotionally abusing their community, a literal pedophile having to get fired from the team, and overly toxic community who is out for blood towards literally any other game with dinosaurs. (Honestly just look at SidAlpha for full documentation on all this.)
That's just my opinion after seeing everything that has gone down with the game since it launched on Steam.
We need to also remember that both games will be entirely different on launch, and appeal to different gameplay audiences.
The Isle plans to be a survival and horror game in the end, with strains and mutants in an almost post-JP inspired setting.
Path of Titans is a grindy MMO where the endgame will be more of a PvE with occasional PvP elements, along with less realistic gameplay such as stat buffing abilities and encouraged clan/mixpack play.
I personally prefer Path of Titans for the fast development, slightly chiller community, and more relaxed gameplay with more open devs.

The lag can be annoying this is true. It has been mentioned by the devs that it is a focus of theirs to fix. I trust they will fix it soon enough. For what it’s worth though, I have those lag issues with Evrima as well if the player I’m fighting has a bad connection - so it’s an issue the genre as a whole has to work on fixing.

Honestly just the fact that PoT doesn't waste your time is the main reason I've personally switched to PoT, which I admit is actually pretty funny because I used to shit on PoT a lot for being a "legacy isle." But after 7 years of playing The Isle, and then watching them release Update 4 not fixing really fixing anything that the update was made for in the first place I gave in and gave PoT a try.
Maybe some people like losing everything when they die with no proper progression mechanics and just getting their time wasted by dinosaurs that aren't balanced fairly, but I've reached my tipping point. It's such a breath of fresh air to just play PoT, grow something (which is still annoyingly long mind you) but not just lose all of it and waste my time when I die. There are different build options and a form of cosmetic unlocks, mods, faster updates, and the combat isn't all that bad other than the occasional collision lag.
I've always valued gameplay over graphics, and The Isle has time and time again prioritized the opposite. It's just getting old. I want to have this 7 year old game be fun already not just try and ooh and aah me with it's decent graphics that bog the performance down. Meanwhile in PoT I can get easily 2-2.5x the fps and it doesn't even look bad...
If this video was on BoB I'd throw it into the ring too because I've got a long history of it, since I've tested it since effectively it's creation, but I'll save that for another time. TL;DR, they had something really good and then overcomplicated it, tried to follow Isle trends with map size, and having bad priorities with a now stuck-up community. It's a shame that these are our options.

Didn't pot swap its fantasy quest growth for a ti-style one?)
Better to be stuck-up then franticly running around with identity crisis, and a broken pr-campaighn, like pot.
1st it's about reeealism, then it has lizard tail whips and poison giant dinos, now that's just desperate.
What gameplay in pot, when it lacks basic scent?
Broken dogfight mechanics with that ridiculous tail whip?))
And what kept you from running away/4calling in TI to not get killed?..
Is "it has trippy random skins" thing even a pro, cuz that's usually a fps thing, or a desperate attempt to buy a playerbase into satying a bit longer?..)

Sounds more like PoT is an MMO that feels very "videogamey" and unrealistic. Where, eventually, you'll just run into players with full adult dinos, because you don't lose your dino when you die, just some growth.
The Isle sounds more immersive and realistic, but more challenging, and with slower updates.

      Hey, I am pretty late.
The Isle is pretty realistic and I think that the final product will be beautiful, imo it is best to play when you have some hours to have fun growing and surviving in a realistic and brutal world.
I also love Path of Titans, because it has a much more casual and chill gameplay style, I personally like the RPG mecanics in the game, it turns combat and hunts more interesting in my opinion, the game, it doesn't matter when you are going to play, because to gain growth you just need to do some basic quests spread across the map.
I do have to say though, The Isle has been for much longer and it still doesn't have as nearly as much playable dinosaurs as Path of Titans, it also presents much slower updates.
But I like both games the way they are, both present a different gameplay proposal, The Isle has a realistic and immersive playstyle, while Path of Titans has a more customizable and aggitated playstyle.

I like both games but I want realism on POT. So I'm personally just waiting for penalty on death features for private servers. I check both games out each update but neither keep me because neither are finished in the way I personally want. (And I'm totes fine waiting and seeing what time brings as I do other things.)
The Isle Evrima: Lacks any Dinosaurs I love, or the one I do love is so over played I don't want to add to that atm. They need more of a food chain going on. They also need to move food and things around so more of the map feels used. (IMO and they could be way faster with updates.)
POT: Hated revenge killing and alt swapping. They have implemented things to remedy this, however until they add punishments for death I just don't count it as a survival. Once you leave the growth state you have little to no punishment. It's literally a quest or two missing which you can get on your run back. (It just feels like an endless Adult sim once you hit adult... which loses any survival aspect for me.)
EDIT: Amazing video also. I can't wait to see more of these as time goes on!~?

The death penalty is fair in my opinion, as you lose a whole bar in on my server (which is more the 1-2 quests, even with my servers boosted growth) AND you lose some of your marks, someone told me 10% of what you have.

    • @MomoDontKnow
      @MomoDontKnow 2 роки тому +1

@@elysiumsnakefarm1185 Nice friend! but I'm looking for the full survival aspect of it. Not just full adults even with 1 bar missing, that's literally nothing in the grand scheme of things. You can still fight just about anything, 10% of marks is worthless after you get the 1 skin you want. I personally like the risk and reward of the isle so just waiting on servers to implement that here. I feel if you get caught out being a doo doo, You need to lose an entire growth stage. I'm not looking for a chat simulator, or a battle arena where everyone is always aggro on site because of little risk, which is what 90% of this games population does.
Hopefully the game can accommodate both types of players in the future. (Casual and or a more hard-core server rules)

I really agree with the diet thing. As alot of herbis/omnis its so hard to find some of you diet. Or your diet is way outside of the hotspots. Like alot of stegos like s diet, but you have to go so far to the swamps to get it, when players like to hang around in the hotspots ie center and sometimes nw. So either you have to make the huge trek as this very slow creature to get food only to have to make the huge trek back right after, or just settling for having a diet that isnt ideal or helpful so that you arent bored. Its also a problem when diets arent where you would think they are. Like that one thing that’s supposed to be in highlands. You would expect it on cliff areas. High. Nope. Barely anywhere. And it also sucks to deal with super broken things like stego.

Someone helped me right away, and helped keep me safe while I quested. People also sacrificed themselves so we could eat LOL. That’s not really a problem thou, because they don’t start from the beginning when they died- so they were just being helpful. I love that we don’t lose our growing process ( depending on the server I guess?) when we die. It’s the one thing that makes the isle frustrating because people just kill you to kill you LOL. I also wanted to add that having Global in it the game again helps a lot again LOL. The one thing about PoT as well is that people are more willing to take risk because they won’t lose so much process- it seems more alive and I run into more people without getting frustrated if they have to hunt me down- it’s just more fun overall in my opinion.

As someone who has played the Isle and POT, I prefer The Isle much much more for various reasons, some that have been touched on in this video and some that have not, the biggest con to POT atleast for me, is that the growth time is insane and as someone with a busy life I'd much rather have a secured passive growth like that in Legacy rather than a growth time that just freezes when I don't want to pick 100 acorns and do the numerous other fetch quests, plus something about the growth in POT that wasn't super touched on, is the fact that every dinosaur takes the same investment to get to an adult, of which I understand for a pure MMO, but for a survival game, it defeats the purpose of the food chain and ecosystem, The Isle had set growth times for each species which let the game be more balanced as their were overall less Apexes and more low to mid tiers, plus the gap between low tiers and Apex tiers was much bigger, and due to that it let every dinosaur fill their own role in the ecosystem and do it well, which made for a far more immersive and realistic game and also made it more fun, because you wouldn't have to worry about seeing the same strong dinosaur everywhere, of which happens frequently in POT, of which brings me to my next problem, POT has too large of a cast, and many dinosaurs of the same tier overlap one another and tend to powercreep each other, and so 9 times out of 10, the same overpowered Herbis will continue to kill you and you see less variety, another part of this issue is that when a new dinosaur gets pushed out with every update, many dinosaurs become unbalanced and or glitchy because the devs are more focused on making more content then making sure the content is actually well made, and due to this some units can be so op they break the entire game, and others get the short end of the stick because of it, regardless, I think I've made my point clear, I just don't think it's my type of game nor a good idea in general, to mix real dinosaurs with the elements and complexity MMO brings.

I can kind of forgive the long update times for The Isle to a certain extent, honestly. They aren't a triple A studio, and yet they are developing a game easily on par with games from such studios. Evrima is in early development, but every different dinosaur FEELS like a character to play- they have personality, unique mechanics, and a colorful and stunning and detailed open world map that every dinosaur gets to explore just a little bit differently. AND they've done this with a shortage of developers on their team.
This video is older, but with nesting and character customization on the horizon, I'd say the future for The Isle is a good one. Given two more years, and possibly a port to UE5, and The Isle will be the magnum opus of its genre. I have high expectations, and I'm not letting long wait times get me down when they CLEARLY deliver such a quality result every time with such a small team. They aren't spending that time twiddling their thumbs. Of course there are bugs and balance issues- but given it's in such early development again, it has time to be fixed.
The main downside to The Isle IS the bitter community. PoT definitely has The Isle on lock for that.

i cant believe i found myself making a connection between DCS (my flight sim gane) and my two dinosaur games
There is a problem right now with DCS, people consume content faster than the devs could make them, which leads to the problem of more effort going into getting new planes into the game than actually adding more stuff to do in the game, in the end, we got new planes which will sate us for 2-3 months ... then we get new planes
this divide is clear in the Isle and PoT
the Isle, giving us too slow a development time, has however polished the mechanics creating a good base game, but with the lack of diversity, it feels baren
PoT, sure it's fast at giving us new dinos, but in the end, the core mechanics barely changed (kind of like DCS), each dino ends up feeling the same when they do more or less the same thing over and over again on the quests
They give us more things without giving us more things to do.

Which probably means a long time. At first I though Legacy was the sandbox mode and Evrima was the survival mode because of talk about lack of dinosaurs in Evrima, but apparently it's even worse. So I think I'll stick to Legacy, get bored of it eventually, and then rediscover the game about 1,5 years from now when hopefully Evrima has a lot more playable dinosaurs, is better optimized, has less bugs, and has some of it's core issues you talked about fixed.

Honestly, I've always wanted to play the isle. It wasn't the first of it's kind, but it was the most ambitious animal sandbox sim up to that point.
I still feel like it is by far more aesthetically pleasing, and more realistic in their implication of mechanics.
What I like about POT is... Well, it's available on mobile and console, so I can play it anywhere. And without buying a new PC.
POT is a good game. But the questing feels mundane. Which is akin to the mundane feeling of eating and drinking. I mean I get it. But... Why not grow by eating and drinking instead. Why does my crocodile care about mushrooms and pinecones? No one knows. feels like offbrand mudrunner sometimes. A game built on mundane tasks, but somehow feels mundane even to those who expected that.
I like the map okay in PoT but it's far too... Uh..rough in my opinion. Like I'm glad it's not flat. But it's like driving through a marsh. Full of sandbars and drop offs everywhere.
And yes sometimes it feels like everytime I join a server, it's 10min til server reset.
And maybe the isle would feel the same way, honestly. Ive just never played it.
I really do like both games. I play POT regularly now and love watching people play the isle.

I love both games, but The Isle for me still holds the crown of the genre. Why? well, I see the vision the devs are aiming for. Out of all the dino survival games, The Isle really does survival the best. While POT and BOB feel more like RP, fantasy games, you know? I don't feel the fear of dying nearly as much in POT and BOB. In a animal survival game, I want to feel like I need to watch and think about every decision I make, and how I die would depend on my decisions and if I pro longed it or just shortened it. Each creature in evirma has a unique purpose, abilities, pros and cons. However in POT, they feel the same too me, not really diverse in traits, you know? For example, Rex is unique as it can trample, that's it. Spino is different as it has a sail, that's it. Sucho is different as it can swim faster than spino, that's it. It just feels like the same dinosaur of that type is just copied a pasted. Legacy also struggles with this sort of thing. What would make a perfect dinosaur survival game would be a mixture of both, just like real life.

As a veteran Isle Legacy player since (when Maiasarus was first updated to the isle) I enjoyed the immersion it gave being a dino survival game giving me the ability to grow and learn and adapt with each dinosaur I played memorizing every dinos skills, weaknesses, fight types, and anticipating how an enemy was going to fight and win. I even memorized every dinosaur call on the isle and learned to heighten my hearing and vision to spot the smallest movements. To me survival was about your skill and knowledge memorizing the map knowing where to go and what to do to achieve adult-hood both solo and with other packs. Unfortunately Evrima at its current state is no longer about that fact. With how little it offers and how much dedication you have to put in to thrive the journey is not worth the reward. Its extremely upsetting for a new player to spend up to 7 hours when typical players have a life and simply cannot be emersed that long (unless your a night owl) to grow an alligator then get murdered by a pack of 30 carno, a mixpack of stego, utah, and carno, or simply starve trying to find a quiet place away from the group which is impossible as a vast majority of the map is restricted for development. Your forced to be a useless juvenile starving for food thats constantly surrounded by cannibal adult players, stack it ontop of the crashing, server issues, the game is a wreck.
Now path of titans has quickly updated to add all of this in an environment that is peaceful, lengthy and also based on skill and growing to know your strength and weaknesses! As a survival player yes I enjoy the thrill of trying not to die but there also needs to be a cooldown balance of peace to give the energy to push forward into the terror. Evrima has too much terror, and broken gamplay, too much lengthy growth speeds, with toxic players and NO peace at all. Path of titans balances there peace and thrill depending on where you choose to go which is nice. plus a 3-5 hour minimum is a lot more enticing then a 7-10 hour growth as it gives even players with busy life schedules a chance to also enjoy and compete with players that have the time and dedication. And when youve switched from the Isle to playing Beasts of Bermuda that has no growth limit and your never better then your enemy is a huge enjoying experience. So until Evrima figures out how to balance its survival so your not so stressed out, flush out toxic playstyles, and gets a complete style, Path of Titans will continue to be my go to. And since a new map and nesting is around the corner for path of titans Evrima is going to be facing a tough road ahead.
