Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah Killed In Israeli Strike |

Israel launching a barrage of airstrikes in southern Beirut. Other than targeting Hezbollah’s weapons storage sites, some were aimed at the terrorist groups underground headquarters in the southern suburbs. And among the specific targets were the group’s leaders Hassan Nasrallah.
The operation was meticulously planned and supervised at the Israeli air force headquarters, the military says. And among those present were the defence minister and other military leaders. And to ensure the message reaches across the border and Hezbollah sympathisers, the first post on social media was in Arabic.
The Israeli military chief says this is not the end of the toolbox that they have. So just who is… or as the Israelis say was….Hassan Nasrallah.
He was elected the boss of Hezbollah in 1992 after his predecessor Sayyed Abbas al-Musawi was killed in a rocket attack by Israel in southern Lebanon. A relatively young Nasrallah promised to turn the heat on Israel.
A little over a year later, Israel paused its pounding of south Lebanon, saying the US had brokered an understanding that Hezbollah would stop rocket attacks on northern Israel. But Nasrallah rebuffed the Israel claim, saying no such ceasefire was agreed upon. Almost a decade later, at a commemoration ceremony after Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmad Yassin was killed, Nasrallah declared open support to the Palestinian group, saying the Hezbollah rank and file was together with Hamas.
Nasrallah pledged an open war on Israel after it bombed his Beirut home after Hezbollah killed eight Israeli soldiers in 2006. After the 2006 Israeli offensive, Nasrallah went underground, only to emerge in public almost seven years later, at a rally in southern Beirut.
He rallied support, portraying Israel as the enemy of the entire Muslim world. In 2020, after Iranian general Qassem Soleimani was killed in a U.S. strike, Nasrallah warned that the Americans would pay a price. He also denied any role of Hezbollah in the deadly blasts that rocked the Beirut port the same year. Last year, after the Israel-Hamas war erupted, Nasrallah warned of a wider conflagration.
Ever since, both Hezbollah and Israel have traded airstrikes. Last month, things came to a head after Fuad Shukr, a top Hezbollah commander, was killed in an Israeli strike. Nasrallah claimed the war was open-ended. Earlier this month, the pager and walkie talkie blasts took the already simmering tensions to a new level. Nasrallah said the enemy had violated all rules and regulations. But as the Israeli military now says… Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.
