We went to one of his shows in Indiana, and 20 minutes in James completely abandoned his material because he was finding so many other things to improv. I was in tears, it was so funny. It was even funnier because there were a bunch of old people there who got tickets in the front rows, but clearly had no idea who he was and did NOT think his poking fun at them was funny. The back of the theatre was in stitches, the front was stonefaced. It was incredible. I'm looking forward to hearing Cold Lasagna Hate Myself 1999 for the first time haha.

Saw this exact show live last year, was the highlight of 2019!!! When he said this was an outtake, I initially thought I was going to be something else that happened at that show. when he came out for the second part of the act he knocked over the two water bottles on the stool in the process, the recording crew didn’t realise till he was 10minutes deep into his act and made him put the water bottles back and start act 2 over again - and we all acted like we never saw it before 😂 it was still amazingly funny the second time and I can’t wait to stream it again to watch a third time 😁🙌🏽

To borrow his own words, he was able to use "the hustle and the bustle" to his advantage, derailing and re-railing his rants seamlessly. A particular talent appeared to be an uncanny knack at spotting fellow Brits in the crowd which lent itself well to a number of digs at their unwillingness to applaud him or show too much emotion generally. For a show about his own life, Acaster went above and beyond to make it relevant to Wellingtonians with digs about Aucklanders and a very funny and lengthy rant about Te Papa. I would say more about the hilarious hour but I don't want Acaster to block me on Twitter. Simply put, go see him live if you can.
Man I was also at that Wellington show, I still dont know whether I'm glad that he had that weird heckler or not because it caused him to do some great improv but he recovered so so well.

I didn't think I could love anything as much as I loved Repertoire but I have to say... best stand-up I've ever watched (and might ever watch). It was brilliant! And the fact that mental health was talked about so honestly and openly really helps to normalise it (both in the show and in Perfect Sound Whatever). PS: Chrizzo here so sorry you didn't get rid of me :/

It is my goal in life that by my 70th birthday(probably retirement age by the time I get there) to own enough music that if i played it all, it would last for 365 days nonstop uninterrupted. My inner(ausistic) music nerd did the maths. If the average album is 45 minutes, then I need to own 11680 albums. I need to buy roughly an album a day between now and 70. Last year I managed more than 700 albums on average, added to the collection. But James has smashed it with 700 albums all from the same year. 700 albums from 1971? Challenge accepted James.
