If you came from a family riddle with turmoil and addiction, like I did, it really hits home. There were many times in my life that I asked these same questions. Thankfully; I was the only child out of five children that beat the odds and came out unscathed. Like I said, this is a very powerful song that hit me really hard.

HF's way, to slow it down a nudge, was genius. And the simplicity of the beat, make it so powerfull.
Love, that it is Tim & Chance that takes the leed, it matches the darknes of the song, and Rob's tenor in the chorus, that lightens it up, and gives hope, that you can change your destiny.

This is a good one! Great lyrics that has is so true in so many families. I just recently heard John Mayer’s version. Home Free pretty much stuck to the original, but they always make a cover their own. I enjoyed your analysis and reaction. Maybe another time you could react to their cover of Crosby, Stills, & Nash “Helplessly Hoping”. It’s a little shorter than current songs since it’s decades old, but it’s a powerful and haunting cover! If you’ve already reacted to it, I’ll find it on your playlist. It is one powerful song that John Mayer wrote. It moves most of us who can relate. It's done in such a haunting way by Home Free, so it goes right along with the lyrics. I looked it up after hearing Home Free sing it. Apparently, John Mayer was asked about the background for the song and he responded that (and I paraphrase) "when an artist writes such a deeply personal song, leave it alone. I've given all the details I'm willing to." Or something like that (it's been awhile).
If you're interested in another artist who also writes deeply personal songs, check out Martina McBride's "Concrete Angel" and "Independence Day." Both videos, though rather old at this point, are very powerful. Tissues may be needed.

Yes, this really is a powerful song. Every so often HF likes to pull these out and give us something to think about, and they do such a wonderful job every time. Have you heard What We Ain't Got? It's another beautiful, thoughtful song from their earlier days.

This is a John Mayer song, I believe this is about his life growing up. His mother was a Karen while dad was a passive (you also get the Over Barring father with the passive mother trying to sooth over dads antics) about how he didnt get the family nurturing he needed and was wondering IF " HE " would end up like his father, Passively trying to sooth ruffled feathers of people from an aggressive wife or will he act like a Man. Also will his brothers stick with him and protect each other from mommy or will they bail when they hit 18.
John Mayer, I think is a pop singer o0 but he wanted to write THIS song as a Country song but Nashville said F NO ! your NOT Country ! Austin is a Country NERD ! and likes John Mayer also, when he ran across this song while reading about it in Country Times (i believe this was the article) HE said NO WAY this is NOT a Country song. So he took it to Tim who is by the way from TEXAS where DNA can NOT be made With OUT Country in it. Tim liked it and they took it to the rest and BAM they made it Country !
