I appreciate you treating philtrum length with such neutrality! Some other channels about beauty are pretty absolutist in believing that the longer the philtrum, the uglier the face which was sad to see. I have a longer philtrum but never saw a problem until I saw the other channels' videos so this is a nice reset. 😅
Philtrum should not be looked at in isolation. When done so, everyone would have a long philtrum. When looking at the face overall, short philtrums may look silly
2:47 I never realised that long hair added contrast to the face, and so short hair removes the contrast! I tried for years to wear a cute bob, but it always made my face and neck look like one continuous zone. Ever since I started having long hair, my face is more distinct from my neck. Now I know why, thank you!
This was far more helpful for me than it was earlier in the year. The reason is that I'm pretty sure that very short hair looks much the best on me - but was roaming round trying to work out why and obviously taking loads of selfies. I've had very short pixies before and loved them. But this time I wanted to see if I could find good reason for my decision. And here, in this video, I found it! Last time I commented, I was only worried about my long Philtrum. I didn't bother with the rest of the info. This time, I've taken everything in, and I'm right that a pixie is my best look. Just as with the dark actress you focus on, I can look attractive with longer hair or hair up - but I just look 'better' with much less hair, lol. More boxes are ticked. You made it so simple. Thanks. 😂
Wow, thanks so much for these are some amazing tips. I don’t have a long philtrum but I learnt so much that hasn’t been mentioned elsewhere like the eyelid size and eyebrow shape effect on it. Keep up the good work ❤👍
I simply have to watch your video even if the title of it indicates that it may not be covering the subject that interests or pertains to me. And as always, you didn't disappoint. Even though I don't have a particularly long ( or short) philtrum, I found your tips very useful in general. Thanks Jenn 💜
Love the insight and tips!!! I’m personally not a huge fan of overdrawing the lips, and I’m definitely not getting a pixie cut so I’m incredibly grateful for the eyes and chin tricks in particular ❤
I think we have super similar face proportions, with a big difference in our eyes lids but as far as positioning of facial features I think ours are pretty similar. I was going to pay to have you do an analysis of my face but realized that I think I already employ so much of what you do for your own face and then when I tried to compare I thought that we have similar faces in a way.
Thanks, with a long philtrum, droopy asymetrical eyes, glasses and long thin neck I rarely photograph well and have always had people make negative assumptions about my personality based on how I look. I will see if thses help.
This is so informative! The older trending makeup with more concealer and straight brows reads very late 2010s on me too and I could never explain why, but now it all makes sense!
Oh, very interesting tips! I have a short philtrum but there's a lor of asymmetry in my lower third so it seems way longer than it is. I'll def try all your suggestions, thanks ❤️
Thank you for emphasizing that a longer (or shorter) philtrum in itself isn't good or bad in regards to the perceived length of the face. I've recently become a little self-conscious about my longer philtrum possibly aging me now. I realize now, my philtrum might actually still balance some of the roundness to my faceshape and vice-versa. Thank you!
This was so good! I have a long philtrum it is one of my least favorite traits on my face. These make up tips were helpful I’ve been testing them out the last two days! I wonder if in the future you can recommend sunglasses for long philtrums!
Great video! These tips will really help. I have a long philtrum but also a very defined Cupid's bow and I've been overlining it. This may sound counter intuitive but I put highlighter right on my philtrum and I don't know if it's my imagination but I feel like it shortens it and makes the lips look more full.
@@Ladynipchick2 Sure! I hope it helps. I think by taking a lip liner and going over the Cupid's bow and making it even more pronounced makes the philtrum look shorter. Then I take a shimmery highlighter that's the same color as my skin And press it right into my philtrum. Something about how the light reflects off of it makes it look shorter to me at least. Doing these 2 things makes my top lip look more full also
Philtrum is not so important if the midface ratio is around 1:1. Thats why a long philtrum on someone with wide spaced eyes isnt so obvious to someone with close set eyes.
IDK if it's just me, but I think she looks better in the side where she's wearing black. She looks better with the thicker brows and something about her eyes look so much more innocent and inviting. I'm actually more drawn to her eyes in that side than the side where she's wearing white. She looks younger and more happy if that makes sense. No offense at all. I'm just saying what I see.
I learned from Aly Art a few years ago here on UA-cam to use contour powder right under the nose to give the illusion of a shorter philtrum. It works really well! It took me a few attempts to get it to look subtle and natural, but now it's super easy and just takes a couple of seconds.
Yes, I've seen people saying a longer philtrum is more masculine - which I don't want! The funny thing is, my philtrum is on the longer side but my cupid's bow is really sharply defined. In fact I often hesitate to play it up for that reason. It's as marked as Taylor Swift 🥴 But maybe I should be brave and jump into it! 😜
@@stylerefinement Well, I forgot to say that my lips are naturally very pale. That mean that I have to always use a strong colour lipstick to be seen. And that, in turn, means that my cupid's bow suddenly jumps into view. Which sometimes makes me shy... 🤔 😁
Jenn, I've just realised that Diana Rigg, the famously sexy Avengers actress and considered a beauty, had small mouth and a long philtrum. Check it out. She didn't even try too hard to overline it. I was really surprised when I watched her the other day in a film!
Very true! I think that you don't always have to overline your lips or try to shorten your philtrum - it just really depends on the look you're going for, and both are beautiful either way ❤
Always so helpful! Thank you Jenn!! Just saying that I don’t know if it’s because I’m a westerner, but the lower eyelid technique looks atrocious to me😂. It’s a sure way to look tired and puffy. I live in Hong Kong and now after this video I understand why so many girls look like this, it’s the make up technique. This k pop trend is not great at all. I would totally ditch it and do like a really soft smoky eye, and do the contouring and higher blush placement technique instead.
I have always thought what if i draw a fake birthmark in the middle it feels like it works for balance ,but also it feels like maybe i am putting too much attention there
I got a piercing there, and that "fixed" it for me (and it's been 14 years!). I guess it visually breaks up the long philtrum, so I can totally imagine a beauty mark working 😊

Yeah it works for some people, but definitely not all! If you already have a lot of protrusion in that area it can look really strange when you enhance it more 😅

Thank you always for the sweetest comments ❤❤❤
I sometimes add a shadow under my nose! I have a short nose which creates a long philtrum.
Sooo useful!! ❤❤❤ Thank you very much, I have a long filtrum and I'm learning too much. Your tips are just as awesome as your comunication skills. 😊

I have a moderate philtrum but a long nose and middle face so I'm taking notes furiously! Thx 🙏
Can you do a video about long faces as well?
Thank you for the tips!❤
I’ve never thought about the philtrim size, only the thirds of the face-hairline to eyebrows, eyebrows to tip of nose, and nose to chin. Interesting!

@@pajamamama5965 Thanks! And do you do the same as Jenn, by just lining the cupids bow and nothing else? 😃
@@Ladynipchick2 You're welcome. I line my whole lips but I'm 48 and I need it to keep the lipstick from bleeding into lip wrinkles LOL

@Ladynipchick2 I honestly have the exact same issue as you, I have a longer philtrum but with a defined cupid's bow which makes it tricky.

It's MAC Shape + Shade Brow Tint in STUD!

I like that eyelid technique I’ll try
Can you do something about short philtrum as well.
Blur the lip line, and contour the nose tip to appear higher than it is, and skip undereye liner.
Can you share what lip you’re using in this video? 💕
I’m wearing:
Nars Soft Matte Lip Balm
MAC Cockney (only in the inner parts of the lips)
Kosas lip oil in the center
Thank you! 🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
Focusing eye makeup on the lower part of eyes won't work if you have downturned eyes... mine are only slightly but I can easily look too sad.
Hands down the person with the prettiest and most uniquely pronounced philtrum and lips is Rihanna! (Just my own opinion)
Yes,her cupid's bow is very defined.

It only works if you have a little bit of protrusion. Mine is totally flat and it looks silly with that makeup
