I am a casual Transformers fan and I never remembered anything of the episodes of this season. It got really wacky! Lol I grew up watching TF as a little kid but that was a long time ago. Im enjoying watching all the episodes here.
Can you imagine how AWESOME Season 3 would have been with Starscream running around causing trouble, plotting mayhem, feuding with Cyclonus and trying to exact revenge on Galvatron??.

First, you 2 let Scourge and Starscream steal one of Trypticon's eyes. And then you 2 allowed Astrotrain to be used as their escape vehicle. So Scourge is helping Starscream voluntarily, and you 4 were unable to stop them. Well, all i can say is... RAAAGHGHGHG

I had to look up Unicron's VA for the episode. Carmel sounds almost exactly like Welles. Not sure how much of that was his vocal impression vs. post-processing, but either way, WOW.

This was one of my all time favorite episodes as I kid. I’d rewatch this episode over and over and over again to the point where I can still hear some dialogue and picture some scenes perfectly. Rewatching this was a major nostalgia trip!
I’ve seen a lot of people say Starscream died again at the end of this episode, but Galvatron said that Trypticon had neutralized their weapons, so my theory is that they couldn’t do much damage to Starcream, and that to this day, he still tumbles out of control in space, Either that, or he found some planet we don’t know of to take over.
Possibly Galvatron saying ‘Trypticon had neutralised their weapons’ (‘their’ meaning Galvatron, Cyclonus and the Predacons’ weapons) was him merely making excuses that he didn’t care about ‘Unicron wanting Cybertron for his body’ (then again, Galvatron not caring could have been his insanity getting the better of him, which always happened, when, had Galvatron’s insanity been curable, of course he’d have cared, just like when he was his old self - Megatron, until the movie). The movie (Galvatron’s first appearance) is even the only time he ever was fully sane (him gaining his insanity, post-movie, after the length he spent, in the lava, on Thrull, after the fight he lost, in the movie, to Hot Rod, when he became Rodimus Prime, is how and why he went back to having Frank Welker as his voice actor, albeit with a completely different vocal style, to his Megatron voice). I’m aware Galvatron was quite sane in ‘The Ultimate Weapon’ (not counting his ‘bluff’); when the hate plague was cured, at the end of part 2, of the last season 3 (post-movie) episode (as well as the penultimate episode of the 80s G1 Transformers cartoon in the States) ‘The Return of Optimus Prime’, it additionally cured his insanity, but, by the three part episode ‘Headmasters’ (aka ‘The Rebirth’) [the only season 4, post-movie, episode, and, most of all, the last 80s G1 Transformers episode - at least in the States], his insanity quickly came back. I’ve seen the season 3 (post-movie) episode ‘Webworld’, meaning I’m aware that Galvatron’s insanity was just incurable.

Yes - Starscream was aware of what would happened, had Unicron gotten a body, hence tricked Unicron after getting his body (and said to Unicron ‘do it yourself!’, followed by Starscream laughing - even Starscream knew what Unicron was like, especially when Unicron even killed two Decepticons, back in the movie, hence were never seen again thereafter, in season 3 - Shockwave and Reflector) [even the Autobots felt sorry for Shockwave and Reflector, hence, both in the movie, and this episode, the Decepticons had to befriend the Autobots, against Unicron, when even Decepticons, even if they’re conquerors, care about Cybertron].
@@ricalvear6829 'Only Human.' There's a guest bad guy in it called 'Old Snake,' but it's quite clear from the way Chris Latta performs him that it's meant to be a then-future incarnation of CC. He even cries out, "COOOOOOOBRA!!!" (albeit with an old man's cough) at the episode's conclusion.
This is one of the best ever episodes in terms of dialogue. Some of Starscream's lines in particular are outrageously good. "Give me that blaster!" "No, get one of your own!" "I was getting cold without a body." "This is where I bail out, Astrotrain... happy landings!" (Clearly revelling in revenge for the end of 'Starscream's Brigade'.) "You know, for the strong silent type, you sure talk too much." "I'm just borrowing him for a little while. Don't worry about a thing." "STARSCREAM! YOU ARE A DEAD MECHANISM!" "Of course I'm dead, Galvatron, but not for much longer..." You can also tell that Chris Latta and Frank Welker are absolutely loving the interplay in that scene. A revisit to the first two seasons for them. It's just such a shame that the episode is spoiled by an incredibly forced and contrived collective belly-laugh from the Autobots at the end. If there's one thing that really dates a series to the 1980s more than any other, it's belly-laughs from the good guys as an ending. Not as awful for it as MASK perhaps, but Transformers did more than its share of them.
@@jakekaufman8302 As I say, it was a feature of cartoons throughout the 80s and it really dates them. It's like titles sequences from drama series from the 70s where the cast members have to smile at the camera when their credit is on the screen, or gameshows where all the contestants have to wave goodbye to the audience as the closing credits start to roll, which was still happening frequently as late as the 1990s. It makes viewers cringe today. I was always a bit lukewarm about Thundercats anyway, but the end-on-a-laugh feature was a real turn-off, yes. The worst for it though was definitely MASK. I think only about two episodes from its first season didn't end on a forced laugh.

Mr T from the A Team would always lecture kids about something to make sure parents saw the popular character as a good role model to society and not be a bad influence. Nobody cares about that anymore and society has become evil. Liberals have placed feminist propaganda in everything now. Somehow just feels SO DAMN GOOD to see Bumblebee, Powerglide, and Warpath still around in Season3......especially Powerglide, bc it REALLY looked like he died in the acid pool in the movie

Actually Hound is still Alive. He showed up in Headmasters which was after the movie. Still a majority of 84 cars left.. Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Hound, Showed up in headmasters. along with the 87 crew. Tracks was there too. I Strange I saw prowl & Bluestreak in headmasters. But then again the magnaboss maximals are suppose to be G1 Ironhide.Silverbolt & prowl. In new bodies.

Imagine if Optimus prime had to come up with a plan to stop Unicron. (Not counting when his spirit was in the matrix at the end of the movie). Since Optimus already emptied the matrix to cure the universe of the hate plague, if Unicron came back then, the whole universe would be fucked as we know it.

11:58 it's very unsettling to see Galvatron talking to his subordinates in a passive aggressive manner when they fail him.....before he goes bat crazy on them!
Megatron did it too. He would threaten to destroy anyone that failed him but in the end he would give them a chance to redeem themselves in some way. The bad guys always rule through fear and intimidation. If they are not respected for being the strongest and most powerful they lose credibility as a leader because the decepticons believe in might = right. If you are more powerful than the guy you take orders from then you can challenge them to a fight and prove you are the better leader by demonstrating that you can beat them up. Only the strong should survive and the weak are given subordinate jobs. Since Megatron is both intelligent as well as powerful nobody dares to stand up to him. The fusion cannon is very powerful plus he is cunning enough to have soundwave act as his personal spy to listen in on his men for evidence of conspiracy. (it's not just physical intimidation but the idea that soundwave is always there breathing down the necks of everyone to dob them in)

Without him megatron probably couldn't keep tabs on his decepticons to ensure they were not plotting to assassinate him while his back was turned. And he is also hated due to not having any plan of his own ie if megatron falls he isn't going to show much respect for a weak leader who no longer intimidates the other decepticons. Soundwave is essentially viewed by everyone else (other than his own cassette minions) as a teacher's pet with no original idea of his own. People that are "yes men" in businesses are always sucking up to the boss for brownie points and it makes sense why he would be hated (nobody trusts him to be friends) and respected (the high status of being close to megatron and trusted) at the same time.
Probaly why screamer was so loud and bold when plotting against megs he knew Soundwave could read minds and he knew laserbeak was always spying why hide his true feelongs

We need a sequel series to The Transformers where we follow up on the Autobots and Decepticons living together in peace after the events of Season 3. Then we'd finally follow up on the Starscream's Ghost arc with the added lore about sparks established from Beast Wars and other Transformers projects that'd come afterwards. And get Powerhouse Animation Studios to produce it alongside Netflix to distribute the series.
@@shadowr2d2 You could, but this show would definitely need some of the old supporting human cast like Spike. Plus, I don’t mind most of the main human characters from the first two seasons like the aforementioned Spike, Sparkplug and Carly.
The problem here, though, is that Season 4 - regardless of Japanese or US - ruined that peace. Without any part of season 4, you'd have no Headmasters.

Whether entirely successful or not, plenty of recent legacy sequels/reboots intentionally forget the more unpopular entries with the exception ones that are generally considered good (Halloween 2018 or some of the recent Terminator flicks).

I really enjoyed both Starscream's ghost episodes and it was great to see him back at his scheming best causing trouble for both Autobots and Decepticons especially Galvatron who we all know have a very long and deep history with each other. I just wished they didn't kill him off again after just getting his physical body, the show should have kept him as a recurring character for the rest of season 3 where he could have come back at any point for a handful of episodes, it would have been interesting to see what kind of role he would have played but it was great to have him back
@@potato4901 He certainly never makes another appearance in G1. The Beast Wars story 'Possession' brings back his ghost to take control of Waspinator, but we're not sure if that story is set 'after' this episode in Starscream's personal timestream, or before it.
I don't think that would've been a good idea. Thanks to the flood of new toys that needed plugging, there were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many characters in Rebirth as it was, with none of them getting any focus or development as a consequence. Trying to crowbar Starscream back in on top of all that would have derailed the story entirely.
this episode and starscreams ghost keeps me up at night sometimes with unanswered questions . like if starscream can posses other transformers why didnt he posses Galvatron and become the leader of the decepticons like he has always wanted .
The Decepticon Battlechargers Runamuck and Runabout are present in this episode, but we never seen them transform the entire series, Spike and Bumblebee are together again since the 1986 movie, and Starscream won't be seeing again until the Beast Wars cartoon.

dont kill me but I love season 3. this episode is one of the reasons why. Scourge and Starscream played off each other brilliantly. Runamuck and Runabout were funny. wish they appeared in more episodes
AGREED. Season 3 expanded the franchise instead of just simply being ok Earth all the time. Lots of space travel, aliens, in addition to new transformers. I never minded Season 3 at all with exception of a few episodes. 😎👍🏿

Agreed, season 3 is as good as other seasons but in its own ways. I first thought it's all serious and dark but the humorous touches are still there - this episode for example. I do miss Starscream and his sass though, wish he'd cause more headaches to Galvatron this season.

He was originally meant to be a Decepticon and the Predacons were meant to be called the Anibots. Some design elements slipped through even after they decided to switch them out.
Season 3 is my favorite season of the show. Rodimus and Galvatron were great characters. This episode among others is well written and incredibly animated very well for AKOM.

If the cartoon continued after Return of Optimus and Rebirth. then the Pretenders and Classic Pretenders would have been brought in. Classic Pretenders were Grimlock, Jazz, Bumblebee for the Autobots and STARSCREAM for the Decepticons. Each with a Pretender shell and upgrades to their robot and alternate forms. This episode was likely to be a first step in the return of Starscream. Glad they used him in Beast Wars, that was a great episode.
Yep, this techno version of the transformers theme is the best. I especially love it when we see Unicron's head being formed at the beginning of the intro.
I don't know why Starscream didn't ask for a new more powerful body? Also in terms of merchandise they could of sold the new Starscream as a new toy. Really didn't make any sense what ever way you looked at it.
It would seem his reconstructed body was weakly constructed by the husk of unicron and without proper repairs from galvatron’s wounds he dies again while tumbling through space only to reappear on screen 11 years later in beast wars again as a ghost to possess the terrorcon Waspinator Unfortunely he never reappeared again in g1 but at least that plot line was revisited many years later instead of being left unanswered
People talk a lot of shit about Season 3 but there was a lot of character development this season, particularly for our two new Leaders; Galvatron and Rodimus. Rodimus was overcoming his doubt and reluctance to be leader, while Galvatron overcame his madness brought upon by his severed mental link with Unicron and overtime in the Plasma Baths.

So for the record. Unicron is now concius and aware of everything thanks to statscream reactivatiing him, and he has eyes now. So I feel he could have still been a threat is some way, not sure how, but he could have been. And Starscream is lost to the stars.

I’m aware Galvatron was quite sane in ‘The Ultimate Weapon’ (not counting his ‘bluff’); when the hate plague was cured, at the end of part 2, of the last season 3 (post-movie) episode (as well as the penultimate episode of the 80s G1 Transformers cartoon in the States) ‘The Return of Optimus Prime’, it additionally cured his insanity, but, by the three part episode ‘Headmasters’ (aka ‘The Rebirth’) [the only season 4, post-movie, episode, and, most of all, the last 80s G1 Transformers episode - at least in the States], his insanity quickly came back. I’ve seen the season 3 (post-movie) episode ‘Webworld’, meaning I’m aware that Galvatron’s insanity was just incurable.
Galvatron may have caught up with Starscream and finished him off. Don't forget, Starscream's ghost showed up in an episode of Beast Wars. Lol.
He died again and then became a ghost and possessed Waspinator in Beast Wars.

Yes - Starscream was aware of what would happened, had Unicron gotten a body, hence tricked Unicron after getting his body (and said to Unicron ‘do it yourself!’, followed by Starscream laughing - even Starscream knew what Unicron was like, especially when Unicron even killed two Decepticons, back in the movie, hence were never seen again thereafter, in season 3 - Shockwave and Reflector) [even the Autobots felt sorry for Shockwave and Reflector, hence, both in the movie, and this episode, the Decepticons had to befriend the Autobots, against Unicron, when even Decepticons, even if they’re conquerors, care about Cybertron].
The two episodes starring Starscream's ghost were among the best Season 3 episodes, especially this one.

You can also tell that Chris Latta and Frank Welker are absolutely loving the interplay in that scene. A revisit to the first two seasons for them.
It's just such a shame that the episode is spoiled by an incredibly forced and contrived collective belly-laugh from the Autobots at the end. If there's one thing that really dates a series to the 1980s more than any other, it's belly-laughs from the good guys as an ending. Not as awful for it as MASK perhaps, but Transformers did more than its share of them.

@@jakekaufman8302 As I say, it was a feature of cartoons throughout the 80s and it really dates them. It's like titles sequences from drama series from the 70s where the cast members have to smile at the camera when their credit is on the screen, or gameshows where all the contestants have to wave goodbye to the audience as the closing credits start to roll, which was still happening frequently as late as the 1990s. It makes viewers cringe today.
I was always a bit lukewarm about Thundercats anyway, but the end-on-a-laugh feature was a real turn-off, yes. The worst for it though was definitely MASK. I think only about two episodes from its first season didn't end on a forced laugh.

Mr T from the A Team would always lecture kids about something to make sure parents saw the popular character as a good role model to society and not be a bad influence. What did you expect? He got stronger and more ruthless when Unicron gave him that body to begin with.
Megatron did it too. He would threaten to destroy anyone that failed him but in the end he would give them a chance to redeem themselves in some way. The bad guys always rule through fear and intimidation. If they are not respected for being the strongest and most powerful they lose credibility as a leader because the decepticons believe in might = right. If you are more powerful than the guy you take orders from then you can challenge them to a fight and prove you are the better leader by demonstrating that you can beat them up. Only the strong should survive and the weak are given subordinate jobs. Since Megatron is both intelligent as well as powerful nobody dares to stand up to him. The fusion cannon is very powerful plus he is cunning enough to have soundwave act as his personal spy to listen in on his men for evidence of conspiracy. (it's not just physical intimidation but the idea that soundwave is always there breathing down the necks of everyone to dob them in)

Without him megatron probably couldn't keep tabs on his decepticons to ensure they were not plotting to assassinate him while his back was turned. And he is also hated due to not having any plan of his own ie if megatron falls he isn't going to show much respect for a weak leader who no longer intimidates the other decepticons. Soundwave is essentially viewed by everyone else (other than his own cassette minions) as a teacher's pet with no original idea of his own. People that are "yes men" in businesses are always sucking up to the boss for brownie points and it makes sense why he would be hated (nobody trusts him to be friends) and respected (the high status of being close to megatron and trusted) at the same time.
Probaly why screamer was so loud and bold when plotting against megs he knew Soundwave could read minds and he knew laserbeak was always spying why hide his true feelongs

I really enjoyed both Starscream's ghost episodes and it was great to see him back at his scheming best causing trouble for both Autobots and Decepticons especially Galvatron who we all know have a very long and deep history with each other. I just wished they didn't kill him off again after just getting his physical body, the show should have kept him as a recurring character for the rest of season 3 where he could have come back at any point for a handful of episodes, it would have been interesting to see what kind of role he would have played but it was great to have him back

I don't think that would've been a good idea. Thanks to the flood of new toys that needed plugging, there were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many characters in Rebirth as it was, with none of them getting any focus or development as a consequence. Trying to crowbar Starscream back in on top of all that would have derailed the story entirely.

The Decepticon Battlechargers Runamuck and Runabout are present in this episode, but we never seen them transform the entire series, Spike and Bumblebee are together again since the 1986 movie, and Starscream won't be seeing again until the Beast Wars cartoon.

AGREED. Season 3 expanded the franchise instead of just simply being ok Earth all the time. Lots of space travel, aliens, in addition to new transformers. I never minded Season 3 at all with exception of a few episodes. 😎👍🏿

Agreed, season 3 is as good as other seasons but in its own ways. I first thought it's all serious and dark but the humorous touches are still there - this episode for example. I do miss Starscream and his sass though, wish he'd cause more headaches to Galvatron this season.

If the cartoon continued after Return of Optimus and Rebirth. then the Pretenders and Classic Pretenders would have been brought in. Classic Pretenders were Grimlock, Jazz, Bumblebee for the Autobots and STARSCREAM for the Decepticons. Each with a Pretender shell and upgrades to their robot and alternate forms. This episode was likely to be a first step in the return of Starscream. Glad they used him in Beast Wars, that was a great episode.

Unfortunely he never reappeared again in g1 but at least that plot line was revisited many years later instead of being left unanswered

People talk a lot of shit about Season 3 but there was a lot of character development this season, particularly for our two new Leaders; Galvatron and Rodimus.
Rodimus was overcoming his doubt and reluctance to be leader, while Galvatron overcame his madness brought upon by his severed mental link with Unicron and overtime in the Plasma Baths.
Galvatron was also comic relief w/his insanity. Unlike Megatron, he didn't hesitate killing Starscream
