I appreciate the effort you put into getting this in UA-cam as black folk are truly underrepresented in the world of gardening eventhough we been doing it long before we ever stepped foot on this continent. Your family is beautiful, look forward to seeing more on your channel!
Guys please allow me to help you out. These tips will make you love gardening. First Start your plants earlier in the house so there bigger(end of February first of March ) by the time your ready to plant after the last frost(med to late April depending on ware you live) Second lay newspaper, cardboard ect in the garden. This will stop crazy weed growth. Lay as close to plants as 3in.(no closer) Third Once this is done add compost on top, or mulch or both or even leaves from raking the yard if money is low. Now what this will do in addition to killing weeds, it will allow the soil to hold water so you don't have to water so often. Also as it breakdown it adds more plant food into the soil. Win win win for you your plants and your harvest and your time. As you can see using this process will save you time and money so you can enjoy watching it grow and pulling weeds here and there. Also practice sustainable harvest. Example your greens and lettuce only harvest the older leaves. This will allow the plant to grow back faster like in a few days kind of fast or sooner depending on age of plant and time of year and care it gets. Also water the newspaper before adding mulch compost ect. I hope you will do well with this process because I know it works, been doing for many years and it will work for you for many years. So use it and make it your own. Blessings to you both. P.S. being this video is a bit old the mulch newspaper part works in any stage of growth in the garden.
Love to see a black family creating your own food, many blessings to you all! Next time check the tindrel that is directly above the vine connected to the watermelon. If it is completely dried out, then it is time to harvest!
Praying that you grow in knowledge and skill level with your gardening. It's a process and we all learn from what we do. We learn from our mistakes and successes. In the end it's a much healthier way to eat to produce your own food.

As a experience gardener your watermelon were fully developed they reason they look that way is because it looks like they were cross pollinated with the butter squash

I never could figure out what butternut squash is used for but your lettuce looked great and even though the watermelon wasn’t ripe yet it still looked delicious

Good job for your first garden it is fruitful! Dont pick melons till stems turn brown and dry, melons cucumbers and squash need lots of room to spread out they go crazy. You can use brown cardboard to keep weeds and grass down GOOD JOB!
Our watermelons never get big enough to harvest, I'm glad you were able to harvest yours. Hope you saved the seeds from your watermelon for next year. You'll have free seeds that are already acclimated to your soil. Love that you are growing with no pesticides, I do the same.
Cool video! Great harvest. The odd shaped watermelon looks like it cross pollinated with the butternut squash. That’s also why the seeds were so big and the watermelon had a yellow tint. Good job family keep up the good work!
