- Have you ever heard of Yuki-Onna? Yuki-Onna, or the Snow Maiden, is a spirit or yōkai in Japanese folklore, often depicted as a cruel creature who lures wanderers to their doom. But there is one story that reveals her softer, more vulnerable side, and today I want to share that story with you through this song:
Minokichi once met a Yuki-Onna in the woods. She spared his life because of his pure soul, warning him never to speak of her or she would kill him. Years later, he married a beautiful woman. One day, he told her about Yuki-Onna, and his bride revealed herself to be the Yuki-Onna he had met. Though he broke his vow, she spared him for the sake of their children and melted in his arms.
It’s a tale of love that couldn’t survive in a world where snow and warmth cannot coexist. I hope you enjoy it ❦
