  • Well here is the rebirth of my E-flite Opterra. Can not really call it a re-maiden since it has already flown but this I call a rebirth with the E-flite Opterra. This wing is huge a full 2 meters. The E-flite Opterra is actually very easy to fly and there is no need to launch under power, just give her a good chunk forward in SAFE and then hit throttle the moment it clears your hand. I demonstrate that in the video.

Neat launch technique! A rudder on a wing would have little or no lever arm to yaw the airframe, I think that is why it's not done. But I have seen wingtip air brakes used for yaw control, that seems to work. Happy landings!

Yeah love wings but cg can be tricky in them.

Can this wing glide without power like a glider? That is really a beautiful wing for sure and seems pretty smooth. Do they still sell/make this model? I dont recall seeing it anywhere on Horizons site. Another nice video. 🙏🏻

Yes it can and a great glider at that. Just remembering on landing that ground effect can make a big surface area like a wing suddenly tip stall. Like it did in the video.

Thanks for demo,I have a ar636 receiver so if I buy the pnp version it should be OK.Im a wing guy I don't fly conventional aircraft.
And like you self taught, made lots of mistakes on way. Thanks again SkyBandit45.

Yes just make sure it is a open ar631 (new in package ) then use forward programing for wing.

Hardest thing is getting her out of the sky.

I luv my Opterra. I didn't know it would launch so smoothly on a 3s battery. I use 4s 3300 in mine. I also us a separate 3s 550 to power the 535 LEDs for night flying. Thanks for the video.

Yeah a 3300 3s is what I normally use in her.

The ultrix has rudder input but it's thrust differential through the props instead of mounted on the actual stabs. I love that plane you should try it out.

Thought about it. Heard there was an issue with the motor mounts.

I had a motor come loose inside the duct but we were able to fix it. One strategy is to cut the foam along the seam and reinforce it yourself so it cannot be a problem when it is flown. However I crashed it a couple times, once it slammed into the ground and broke the nose off with a clean fracture. Overall the best bird I have and the toughest. It is still the most flown plane I have. The main problem I had was the battery kept coming out through the weakened battery floor. It crashed so damn hard that the battery shot through the bottom of the plane due to all the ge forces. I don't have that much problem with the CG other than the battery coming loose inside the plane and shifting the CG. It comes with a stab and SAFE as well. The plane so far is tough as nails. Flying wings are generally more sturdy due to how the pressure of the crash being spread out due to the angle of the aircraft. @@FatGuyFliesRC
