The 9mm is a 115 gr JHP rated at 1,210 FPS from a 4" barrel (I'm using a Ruger Security 9 in a 4" barrel) and the .22 WMR is a 40 gr JHP rated at 1,050 FPS from no listed barrel length (but Speer says it's for barrels as short as 2" so that's probably the barrel length for the rating) and I'm using a 3" Ruger LCR-X.
That 22 mag is no joke guys. You really wont be disappointed with whichever you pick. Winchest magnum. Been putting mfers down for a looooong timeee...
The gold dot is the best 22wmr, ever made for a handgun. My NA pug has killed so many vermin (up to coyotes) with it, I lose count. (My dogs always come along to anchor them, btw.) I'd be fine with it if it was the lone option, though I am very glad it's not, too!!
Great simple comparison vid! I’m a big fan of the .22 Magnum! If someone would make a good sub-compact semi-auto for conceal carry. Do a double stack 15rd magazine would b awesome on a 3”-3.5” slim-line pistol! There’s a few really good full-size semi-auto pistols out. Why not shrink 1 down?
A usable, double-stacked magazine for a rimfire and rimmed cartridge? Ain't going to happen in anything reliably. Especially not gonna happen for anything needed for self defense. Not a chance in hell it would be reliable enough to bet one's life on.
If those guns were rifles the 22magnum. Would win for penetration due to the excess speed produced by different bullets .the magnum will travel a thousand feet per second faster with a Hornady 30gr bullet
The calibers are actually very comparable. You get more bang for the buck with 9mm as each round is bigger and more powerful, but typically .22 Mag is about $15 for 50 rounds. The 9mm is about the same. The real difference is in defensive hollow point ammo as 50 rounds of 9mm FMJ is $15 but you might pay $50 for 50 rounds of defensive ammo, as where .22 Mag goes from maybe $15 to $20 for 50 rounds of defensive ammo.
Anything can compare to something out. Might not be the same but they are worth comparing due to the fact that someone might decided a 9mm is too much recoil, and a .22 Mag is more effective than a .22 LR but low recoil.
22lr and 22mag are perfectly fine self defense rounds. Most pistols are small with low recoil. What matters most is putting the rounds where they it counts regardless of caliber.

Thanks for the great vid! I have a S&W 351pd 22mag 7-shot. I love it. It's a great carry gun. Highly recommended. (Gold Dots are great, too!)

Whatchu mean by that 💀
FBI ! FREEZE! 😂
Lucky guy has a 4 incher. All I have is a 1 7/8 incher.
9mm?
@@GunSam 38spl. So when the ladies ask me how long my barrel is, "Almost 2 inches of raw power Baby! Lee Harvey Oswald couldn't take one hot load."
It's not the length but where your hitting! If u hit the right spot,,then it's long enough, don't listen to your friends😮😊
Imagine carrying that new M&p 22wmr that holds 30 rounds
Exactly why i came here !😅
Yup exactly but it sucks that I’m a felon.

you need longer barrel length for velocity to increase to get max penatration
If you are shooting squirrels the outcome with either would be the same. Anything bigger and it will come down to shot placement.
That's all good, but the 22mag is a third of the power.

Love both round but 4 in barrel or smaller really hurts the 22 wmr . Try 16 in barrel I would think i22 WMR would do better
How much was the influence of the bullets grain, On the 22mag? Lower grain may not get the same results...
Try a heavier bullet in the magnum like a Winchester 45gr solid lead tip .
How do these bullets compare in availability and price?

@@patrickpendergast898 I'm not down playing the effectiveness of a .22. I'm just saying that it doesn't par up to a 9mm (FBI standards).
@@nocturnalrecluse1216.22mag Hornady V max, goes thru 2a soft armour, every shot, everytime, where 9mm stops. You can look it up, on multiple videos.
Agreed. 1/3 the stopping power. NOT even close. A closer comparison would be against a pellet gun.
