    👍 I really enjoy knife review videos that show knives in action, not resting quietly on a table. Loved this one. I was truly impressed by some of supposedly low end and display knives performance. And, thank you for your honest thoughts on the good, bad, & ugly.

    Awesome collection, and a very enjoyable video. A few years ago I decided to chop down a wild mango tree (the fruit is rubbish), instead of a chainsaw, used my 1943 Australian Army issue bolo machete, that's a chopping beast, take an arm or leg off with ease. Took a while, but it did the job.

    I watched this chopping extravaganza, when it came out, and was quite impressed, how good the cheaper knives performed, and I wanted the SZCO Western Bowie, because I love Bowie knives. Living in Europe getting your hands on s SZCO blade is not that easy.
    Finally I found a Dutch webshop, who had the SZCO Western Bowie available - for € 32,--, shipped right to my door. For this price I had to have it, so I pulled the trigger, together with some more stuff to come into the "free shipping" zone.
    It has to arrive at my door about Wednesday. I am quite exited, whats all about this knife, and how it performs - for this price. Can't wait to finally holding it in my hand.
    Yeah, I know, its an "el cheapo", but it is not bad. I will test it with an open mind.

      The best and cheapest way to go for me, is a decent looking 10"blade Bowie "blank" and I'll make a tough handle for it, that way too, I can adjust the balance for throwing, at the same time,, 😀,

It was gifted to me, ironically I was already considering buying that model. Solid, well-built. Heavy chunk of steel, feels close to 2 lbs. I hand it to ya, sir... you have more knives than I... bowies, anyway! The Laredo is conspicuous for it's absence... Is it one YOU would trust hacking up camp wood and such? It is a fighting knife for certain, the first time I was handed a Laredo it's primary function was readily apparent! But as a do-all camp knife? Hmm... So mostly it is on my wall. I'd like your studied opinion...
    Ive watched your vid on the Case XX and even tho I have a W49 in my selection, am considering that as a "next acquisition" or next next.. Your enthusiasm when testing the XX was obvious and infectious. The "Secret Of The Perfect Blade" has been an elusive, if near life-long, pursuit. Who knows, I may yet have an Adventure in which a good blade may figure... If not I'll carry it with me on my pyre, into the OtherWorld, Godwilling!

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  3 роки тому

      The perfect blade is that wonderful group of words that we can put together and say but for some can never be put together in reality. For me I would have to say that so far the most perfect knife I have is my dbad camp master. I designed it to be everything I wanted to be and the design was a success. I am sure that I will need something different and design one to be just as great but for now the most hand fitting knife I own and most useful would most likely be that.

The heat treat is second to none and it comes with the best warrantee in the business. I got very lucky With that 1. The Gil Hibben models made by United look like the movie knife but are slightly smaller. This one is about 3/4 of an inch longer than the movie blade and the same shape but it's the only 1 I found polished. I bought it that way from Hollywood collectibles and haven't found another 1 since. It's nicer then the darker ones in my opinion.

  • @jeremiahjohnson2881
    @jeremiahjohnson2881 5 років тому +2

    You know that's just some soft ass pine, probably the easiest wood to process down. But still they definitely did the job. On hardwood bowies aren't the best for chopping. Especially hollow ground ones.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  5 років тому +1

      I absolutely agree. I Do chop a lot with them on harder woods. I use them to cut down sycamore logs which is really hard and living in New England the Winter makes those pine logs pretty stiff, but on this day, there was no frozen logs and you are right that wood was soft. What gets you is the sabath. Fresh pine is crazy sticky so it slows down the blade and hollow grinds are not made for chopping hardwoods without a doubt.
