I remember the Farmers building when it was still a department store. I used to love taking the escalators to the top floor, where Hector the parrot lived, and there was a kids' playground. There was also an exit to a timber lookout, where you could get a view of the city from several floors up. Oooh, exciting! This was back in the day when the thing that dominated the skyline was the museum, as you sat on the bus from the North Shore and crossed on the harbour bridge (two lanes in those days). Downtown Auckland bewilders me these days. I recognise only the buildings that have thankfully survived, smothered as they are by high rise modernist monstrosities. Bah, humbug.
at timestamp 3:06 you see back in the old days the park was filled to the brim with people. nowadays when there are heaps more people in the city and you still only see a couple of people at the park... so strange.
Thanks for putting this together. Love the old Auckland. It's so beautiful. I fail to understand why everything is getting worse and uglier when we are getting more advanced. Especially the CBD, I don't even want to go there unless I have to.
@@bigthinker281 not sure if that’s sarcasm haha I don’t believe you that would be an incredible feat let alone be able to use UA-cam 😅 if your telling the truth that is awesome
I remember the old Auckland city im from 1979 and the city looked the same and still does in some ways in 2024 some pfvthe buildings are gonna have to go completely in the next 20yrs because most of these still existing building are almost or are atleast 100yrs old i hears the city will be changing in the next few yrs because structure integrity advisors have scanned the reloc buildings abd there findings isnt good news as most of tgese relic buildings aint even safe by current standards so the citys starting to go bare and shops are disappearing fast because of this the city roght now is building new buildings to replace the relics

Ahh i miss the greasy old downtown Auckland, especially Fort Street porn shops and strip club's like Happy Chappys and the Firehouse and the Spacey arcades like Yifans under MidCity and Hollywood's where you could get all sorts of drugs, If you knew who to go to. I miss my youth.
This AI song is outrageous tf lmao
This is absolutely amazing. Bravo.

Luckily, you got out before the traffic started. It's horrible.

Great work! Can I upload this to Bilibili so that my mom can see it, since she lives in China and doesn't know how to use a VPN?

The inner city is a hole, with people sleeping rough everywhere.

What a mess they've made of our city.
what in particular?
