There was a time when E Pluribus Funk was one of my prized albums. As wonderful a reunion would have been, I guess it wasn’t meant to be 😔. Mark is an amazing solo artist. Success is the best revenge.

I was lucky enough to see them back in 1997 when Mark Farner was still with them at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, it was a good concert. I agree with you though not Grand Funk without Farner.

I have seen this incarnation of the band. They are good, but they are NOT Grand Funk Railroad. Ironically, Max Carl looks like Mark Farner ...
if you stretched him out to be 6’2”! In fact some lady sitting around me said, “I didn’t know Mark was that tall.” So they have SOME people fooled! They should have a lightbulb moment when the band plays a few of Carl’s hits from when he was in .38 Special.
I did see Mark Farner solo about three years ago. He was the special guest of the group, Ides Of March, and he played a shortened set and then sat in with the band on some songs. Mark still brought that trademark showmanship and energy at age 72! GFR misses a WHOLE LOT in their performances without him. My opinion is that Mark is one of the top frontmen and vocalists Of The Classic Rock era and the perfect guitarist for Grand Funk. Add into the equation that he wrote over 90% of their material and I would have to say there would be NO GFR without him to begin with!

MARK Don & Mel double LP was my most played album in the early 70's
Sounds about right,it took 3guys to replace Mark!! I've seen Mark a couple times in recent years but I don't think that I would go see these guys

Hey Larry! They are a top 5 band and Mel is a top 5 bassist for me, and Brewer is a good singer, but I'm not making the effort to see this version. Even though this guy is a more than serviceable singer, I can't do them without Mark. Saw them once in 74, and a number of times when they reunited in 96-97, but I'm quite sure a second reunion won't happen.

I mean they aren't a terrible band but it's still a joke that Mel and Don treated Mark the way they did and still have the nerve to call themselves Grand Funk.
Me and my friends liked Grand Funk Railroad for about a year when they came out but I eventually grew tired of them and the band sounds good now but I just have no interest in them,I think Grand Funk can get away doing what they're doing because as big as they were they just weren't that big,they're like a band like Styx who have survived for years without their lead singer,he being replaced by Canadian singer Larry Gowan,with a band like the Guess Who or the Beatles or Sparks!,you simply can't do that,maybe it's because I just wasn't that into Grand Funk or something but someone like you Larry who was maybe to you it's simply wrong!,I don't know,it'll be fans like you Larry who'll decide. Nothing but a glorified tribute band. Farner should sue them and prevent them from playing music that HE wrote
I have the same issue with the band yes. Not buying the new singer.
