I looked her up on Spotify and most of her songs aren't as well known as Mel's, just the two that blew up on TikTok. Her live singing sounds nothing like her studio versions, implying heavy autotune, and I've seen lots of videos of people reading fanfiction and playing subways surfers at her concerts. Mel's been in the game for YEARS, and has cultivated a large fanbase, and didn't need TikTok to make her famous. I think it's sad to see an artist tear down another artist instead of showing love and support, especially when that artist is someone as big as Melanie

Even if her music could go deeper, she is still using her songs to shed light on deeper issues that society just ignores. It's not perfect, but it's a start in the right direction, I believe. And as someone who has been through some of the things her songs describe (ex teacher's pet and OJ) I don't believe they come across as romanticizing topics, but that's just my personal opinion. I also don't think the childlike theme is weird because the songs themselves aren't exactly childlike, just the titles, and I think it some cases I find them clever (ex Tag You're It being a metaphor for trafficking) I'm not going to get into the timothy/melanie situation because I'm not educated enough about what happened to speak about it or have a fully fleshed out opinion. As for Melanie as a person, I don't really have many opinions about how she presents herself, I'm just here for the music, and I appreciate Melanie's music and how it's helped me. And I do agree with appreciating PORTALS being more about Melanie's personal experiences, and I prefer the sound that album has compared to the others

@@jesalynndoesthings melanie hasn’t actually been through 98% of the things she describes in her first few albums, which makes it come across as in bad taste and romanticizing the things she talks about. not saying you have to have been through something to talk about it, but a lot of her lyrics are just very shallow, not complex, and very surface-level observations. and, don’t yell at me for this because it’s just a fact, there is no proof that she is innocent when it comes to that friend of hers. without bias and purely based on vibes and the information we do have, i am honestly more inclined to believe timothy. before you harass me for saying this (lmao) please dive into your own research on it, but i feel like using “they never said no” as a reason to prove your innocence feels very gross, also because timothy described being coerced by melanie. also, her whole vibe of “child-like” things honestly feels very weird in certain songs like pacify her. it just feels very strange to me, and the older and more aware i get the weirder i feel about melanie. i still enjoy her music, but i am more off put by her as a person and how she presents herself. i do appreciate her new album being more about her own experiences and i can genuinely hear the difference in the quality of the lyrics and music itself
@@sp4c3y I can understand your reasonings for not liking her music, though I'd have to respectfully disagree. Even if her music could go deeper, she is still using her songs to shed light on deeper issues that society just ignores. It's not perfect, but it's a start in the right direction, I believe. And as someone who has been through some of the things her songs describe (ex teacher's pet and OJ) I don't believe they come across as romanticizing topics, but that's just my personal opinion. I also don't think the childlike theme is weird because the songs themselves aren't exactly childlike, just the titles, and I think it some cases I find them clever (ex Tag You're It being a metaphor for trafficking) I'm not going to get into the timothy/melanie situation because I'm not educated enough about what happened to speak about it or have a fully fleshed out opinion. As for Melanie as a person, I don't really have many opinions about how she presents herself, I'm just here for the music, and I appreciate Melanie's music and how it's helped me. And I do agree with appreciating PORTALS being more about Melanie's personal experiences, and I prefer the sound that album has compared to the others
@@jesalynndoesthings i understand what you’re saying, but the issue i have with the music being childlike is that the actual songs are not childlike. i understand the concept, but i just think there are lines that dont need to be crossed. i’m sure there are people that have been helped by her music, and that’s great, but my personal opinion is that i don’t see her music as being as intellectual and deep as people describe it as, and i just personally feel a bit off-put by her lyrics. i agree with most of what you said though.

OK, she didn't clear up what happened until after I posted this, and second, I never bashed her or said anything not nice. Also, it wasn't "obvious" she was joking if no one understood it was a joke until she cleared it up.
