OLD GS or NEW GS? That is the question 😊
Old GS
no GS
1290
R1250 GS for me...i put looks and/or road presence as one of the factors.
New GS is miles better so definitely new GS
Love mine 1300 triple Black, it's a fantastic bike in all aspects.
I've test ridden it on Saturday and it was so much better than I thought it would be (I have a 1250GSA). Can't wait for the Adventure model.
Having done the whole adventure bike thing, nothing beats a comfortable car with aircon, heated seats for long journeys in any season.
No motorcyclist wants to admit that 😅
@Ephesians-xt4xc true bro i can never say that even though i know its true😂😂
I've been riding 50 years in the PNW of Canada.. I've owned a lot of cars; Audis, BMW, Honda, and more. I have a 2022 Ford Explorer ST and a 2022 BMW r1250gs Rallye.
I still prefer the bike, for long trips, and even just for grocery runs .
The elephant in the room is no one has mentioned it sounds like a diesel tractor
Exactly. What's more, when accelerating, it's as if you've engaged reverse gear on a car and the Millenium Falcon's servos kick in. Anything but an emotional driving experience. Were the BMW test drivers all deaf?
Or the terrible whine from the gearbox, does my head in !
Your review style is unique, and you seem to be carving out a following! There are better channels that cover pragmatic aspects of the motorcycle, but not so many that convey the esoteric joy and connection with the bike. I dare say you might be the best at it!
Wow, thanks! 🥹🥹🥹🙏❤️
Hi Christopher,
The BMW 1300 GS, has a controversial front light. That’s the only thing I can give to the model detractors. Beyond that point I can’t give them nothing.
They can say the bike is expensive or that unfortunately they aren’t loaded enough to buy it, it’s all ok. But saying that the bike isn’t functional and premium on a technical and technological point of view is just trying to trash the brand’s name for no good reason. Since I’ve been riding the bike , about three months from now, it performed impeccably and with any kind of malfunctioning . As you stated in this video, I can assure that this is a very well balanced motorcycle in every sense of the expression. And even considering the front light diversion of opinions, I like it a lot, once that it is in harmony with the general rest of the aesthetics. 👌🏻
Great stuff, Smokey. Keepem coming. I would like to see the BMW K 1600 B touring bike.
The turn signals are standard inside the handguards. If you want the „normal“ turn signals you need the optional enduro package pro.
Subscribed cause you make good content!
Smokey do the turn signal with the brakes applied in the daytime and see how noticeable the brakes are when you turn signal is on. Daylight, not in dark garage.
Great review, very entertaining 😄👍
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Please demonstrate resetting the trip meter.
Like the bike , looks nice. Thought I’d put that out there! So bored with the haters!
Today I had try also one and I don't like it as much as I think I would. I prefere a 800Big or KTM Adventure R or a DesertX clearly
👍 Nice Video
Keep it safe Smokey
The way you talk and your voice reminds men a LOT of ThePrimeagen
Smokey this is good bike😊
If you had to chose between bmw xr 1000 or gs 1300 what would you go for? ( mostly touring and occasional gravel with small holes riding in mind) I would take reliability in consideration too.
Thank god we have an alternative in the new MG Stelvio !
How about indicators under braking? That's the more typical scenario (other than overtaking).
That's the point, braking with indicator is much less visible with the integrated ones. Less visibility, attention from cars = potential rear accident
If you would want today an adventure bike what would you choose 1300 gs or multistrada rally
That is the hardest question ever 😅. It would be 50-50 🙈
@@LifeofSmokey so means that Ducati stepped up the phase with adventure bikes
I would think that you would say BMW :)
Just bought a Honda Africa Twin DCT, aldo I’m very used to manual gear box as I’m riding bikes for 40 years’ but I will never go back to manual shift gear bike. So no GS as long as they don’t come with a DCT kind of gear box.
I really like this bike but I am waiting for the adventure...
I have to say, I hated the quick shifter between 1-2 and 2-3. It was a horrible jerky clunk and the bike lurched. I have done 3000km on the bike, and it is way better, the 2-3 shift is almost perfect, and the 1-2 shift is way better, but not (yet) perfect.
Also, I found that quick shifter likes you to be giving it the beans, it will do perfectly smooth, 1-2 and 2-3 shifts even from brand new if you're really on the throttle.
One last thing, I think in Road mode, the wheelie suppression is on high.
Hey do with continental GT 650 (unboxing video)
You said that you had a rough weekend…but needing toilet paper in the top case Smokey? 🚽 Commendable dedication to video production! 😁
You got that right! I went from Starbucks to Starbucks and my insides don't like all the caffeine 😂
@@LifeofSmokey Imagine if you ever test ride a Harley-Davidson. Not only will you have to go from coffee shop to coffee shop, but you will have to eat at each stop to put on the required belly, you will have to wear a leather vest, chaps and a “dew rag”, you will require at least three H-D logos on your clothing, and get several tattoos. You will have to seek out other “hog” riders while actively ignoring riders of other brands, stand around in the parking lot for hours talking endlessly about “The Motor Company” and the virtues of “loud pipes saving lives”. Maybe take some polish in your pocket to buff up all that chrome. Never ride it in the RAIN 😱 like you did with that GS! You need to “embrace the lifestyle” to do a true H-D motorcycle review! Now Smokey, aren’t you grateful you were reviewing BMW? 😁
Smokey isn’t it at 50km/h that the bike goes up back to 850mm. Not possible to set the automatic setting to 15km/h as you just said. I didn’t know you can do that also, as far as I know you can manually only choose if the bike will be set in hi setting or low setting permanently?
It goes back down under 15km/u , not sure when it goes back up. I tried starting with my feet on the ground to see when it would go up but couldn't really figure it out 😂
Every GS should have the crash bar lowers as standard equipment.
Sompe people prefer aftermarket options.
@@JoeS97756 True. But my point was that every boxer (especially a GS with any off-road pretensions) should have those cylinder heads protected, and for the asking the price of a GS, shouldn’t that be part of the package? If the price is in fact less for the GS because it lacks essential equipment, fine…but BMW has a high starting price as it is. A stripped GS with “optional” crash bars should have this evident in the price, whereas now “optional” crash bars seems more a BMW fabrication to enable a bulging “options” tally. If included it is simple to swap out for aftermarket if preferred. They all come with a skid plate, and many people prefer aftermarket protection there too.
Hello I have one question which you may be able to answer given the experience you acquired with the motorbike and you pay attention to details. What is the speed around which you can accomplish the most economic fuel consumption, ie. what speed (and gear) should I have to have the lowest fuel consumption. I know that BMW says that at 120km/h you can accomplish 4.7L/100km. Can it get any lower?
I think 70km/u in 6th gear is gonna be the lowest but very good question 😊
@@LifeofSmokey my old vstrom 650 is 85km/h at 6th gear. 3.4L/100km. I feel that it should be around 95km/h 6th gear
Ik zen is benieuwd. Ik ben meer fan van de 1250 na ze allebei te testrijden
The heated seat for the passenger is in the back so that the passenger can control the temperature it actually makes sense not to have that integrated in the front seat
Top box, how did you manage to get hold of one of those !!
I was asking the same question! 😂
The best bike in the world 🌎
Surprisingly, the quickshifter on my 1300 is very smooth. That surprised me. Normally, the quickshifters on BMW boxer engines are all rubbish and very rough with significant load changes. On the 1300 it is really usable. Btw. of all the colors, I find the green and gold Tramuntana far too baroque. I would never buy it like that. The Trophy and the Triple Black are my first choice. By the way, I would never put a top case on a bike like this because then you always look like a pizza driver. That's how vain I am. ;)
I don’t know where to start so I won’t with one exception, you should have tested the rear indicators with the brake engaged as that will likely overpower the indicator flash. other than that, I’m sure its a great bike but its lost its Tonka Toy image and replaced it with an everyday road bike look! Oh and for the record we’re not old we’re experienced, been there, seen it, done it!!! 😂
And now honestly how did you like the gear change?
A bit clunky like a Ducati 😁
@@LifeofSmokey mine has 700 km still not liking it, for a smooth gear change you need to have the power on all the time…
nice but , its something that pulls me away from this bike...
Zondereigen baarle smokey
Shhhttttt 🙈🙈🙈
Hi 🎉brother
Ik hoop dat je me op een enduoro zet en een keer mee de bossen ermee ingaat ik denk dat hij je zal verbazen
237kg, not a chance. Put it on a scale. That bike is at least 40 lbs heavier even without the top box. You can get all the options on the white bike, it's not the stipper model. Also the trophy does not come with crash bars...again you can get what options you want with it. The crash bars are part of the Enduro package which you can get on, wait for it, any color.
237kg is most likely the dry weight. With a full tank and all, its 100% heavier, cars are also measured in dry weight
@@Larssema No it's not a dry weight, but it's the weight of the stripper model per BMW. None of the bikes that I have seen weighed come close to it and are very close in weight to the 1250, despite the mantra of the 1300 being a lighter bike.
@@JoeS97756 i cannot tell from experience so i need to trust you on that. But honestly, the bike is smaller right? The fact that it still weighs more is weird to me
@@Larssema There are youtube videos where they weigh the bikes so you can see. No the bike is not smaller either. Wheelbase is a fraction longer. The bike will be smaller if you get adaptive height control and when it is in low position. but length and height are pretty similar to the 1250 otherwise. Some areas may be slimmer such as the area near the front of the seat.
@@JoeS97756 i didnt know, it looks way smaller than the 1250, even in person, but that comes probably, as you said, because the area near the front seat is smaller now. But it makes sense now
on my 1300 I cannot feel any difference between ROAD and Dynamic....
Mostly on bounce roads is where you notice it the most. I could feel a big difference when taking corners 😁
Sorry but it looks like a Chinese Honnda NC750.....And that headlight..... Dear Lord, what have they done.....
In the front ia horrible. And the price... Too expensive
This item is optional..
thisss...optional
And this optional too..
Optional..optional optional...
Meaning more add on 💰 💰 🤑 💸 💲
Hi Smokey! Having a love and hate relationship with your channel, you’re just a Belgian wafel-eter en pintjes-drinker instead of a Texan cowboy with that voice you try to pretend 😂 just joking. Anyway…
I’m stuck between those two. 1300GS and 1290R. Maintenance free driveshaft attracts me a lot, riding position also, but that front look 🤢 and uninspiring sound. And overall it’s a quite narrow bike.
Looks a bit clumsy when you’re tall, like me.
Honest now; do you wanna trade your KTM for it? And does it get annoying knowing the GS doesn’t shift half as smooth as de 1290?
Keep up the good work Smoke, like your channel anyway 😉
Yeah can't change my English accent haha. It's how I talk lol. And no I will not sell my 1290 SAR for the new GS. However I would love to add the new GS to my garage next to my 1290 as the road touring bike :-).
Took the 1290 SAR out for a 650km ride in Luxemburg on Saturday. Next hurts , butt hurts but oh damn did I have fun. Would not have had any pain on the GS but it would have been a bit more boring haha.
Fair enough! So overall for commuting, travel, all day comfort take the GS. Just having fun and a good time: take 1290…
Maybe when getting used to the gearbox and qs on the Beemer it isn’t so bad after all..
Thanks again and let me know when your in Rotterdam harbor again, glad to show you the way 😉
Is not friking need for a gigantic motorcycle key fob! Lol
Now let's see you fix it after you've dropped it in a river in Kazakhstan...
NOBODY IS REVIWEING AND COMPARING THIS BIKE FROM A PASSANGER (BACK SEAT) EXPIRIENCE POINT OF VIEW
Missenden Flyer did. The Mrs preferred the 1250 as the seat was a little softer.
Absolutely hate the new 1300. Prefer the older 1250 much more.
I’m the complete opposite. I hated the old GS. I test rode the 1200 and 1250 in the past but now have a Tramuntana and absolutely love everything about it. If everyone liked the same thing we’d end up with a homogeneous world where all bikes were the same which would be awful.
1300 is ugly and cheap-looking
I dont love it and i dont hate it. I just like the 1250 more because its my favorite motorcycle, and the 1300 just needs to grow on me. I already like it more than back when it launched
Irrelevant
Would never consider the 1250... The 1300 maybe... But then new bikes came on the market that are much more relevant than GS a together.
Soon you will be old too so be careful with this saying not for old people. I see when I grab from dealer my gs a 68year old guy taking M x1000xr delivery. He just left 1000rr and state he need now more comfy position bike 😂😂😂😂😂
this bike is complete waste of money, ugly and illogic design, unnecessary things u have to pay for etc...junk
Every evolution of the GS is uglier than the previous one-yuk
BMW GS is crap, i can tell i own 3 of them and try allso this 1300, there is no way to compare with KTM.
beware.... there is a Chucky !!! better lock it up !
Hey "Smokey" you just "smoked" yourself with your corrupt language. Sure lots of people do it; but it is not an excuse for poor or limited vocabulary. Just like road speed limit signs; if there are no signs, give it the throttle. However, once posted you have "free will" to "crank it" or OBEY it; however, you cannot choose the consequences. Almighty God's "Road Sign" says: You SHALL NOT take the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain (Exodus 20vs7)." Now that the SIGN is POSTED for YOU, proceed with caution; rebellion has painful consequences.
