    It's insane that a video and story like this only has 300-400 likes, but trash videos have thousands.

    Thank you Marj/Gary from Education is Power and Margaret/Henry from La Loma Jungle Lodge. Without their partnerships and support none of this would have been possible.

    Neal is great!. What a free and loving spirit. He's to be applauded for chasing his dream. I too will retire in Panama, just not in the jungle, smile. But I wish I could do it earlier.

    I can't find where to post this comment to apply to all the EX-PATS videos. They are great. I grew tired of the corporate world long ago and have longed to move to a 3rd world country to start a business and help those in need along the way.
    I've noticed that pretty much everyone being covered is in the Caribbean, Mexico, or Central America. I know EX-PATS from both the US and Canada who have moved to countries in South America, Africa (South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya), Sri Lanka, the Far East (Japan, S.Korea, China, Taiwan) and SE Asia (The Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Guinea).
    I would like to see more areas covered.

    Neil, I'll soon be retiring from the rat race here in the State and go back home for some quiet slow life. I'll look you up if time permits and will lend a hand. My first mission will be to work with spay-Panama, another organization that expats like you helped get in gear. Hopefully I will see you soon. Gracias

    Good video.
    One thing I picked up on during the middle of it was when he was talking about having to go to town to charge his phone/electronics. I think it was the most recent run of Charley Boorman's Extreme Frontiers when they were filming down in South Africa....on the Facebook page they were showing solar chargers they had picked up for the trip, enabling them to keep their phones and other electronics going, even when out in the middle of nowhere. Just food for thought @ Neil.
    Great vid

    Brother, I know exactly what episode you're talking about. Americans (of U.S.) are romantic. We love to show our equality and love for everyone. By that I mean, we do so when we get credit for it. But when we don't get credit for it (i.e., daily life), we do exploit and discriminate. We knife behind the cameras, but then, we do charity work and get praised for pulling out a knife (that we didn't show people we put in the first place).

    Notice the girl interviewing isn't a no name. She isn't one of the locals they're boasting of helping so much. Notice, they don't even interview those people. The grant writing part sounded very American.

  • @rockshot100
    @rockshot100 11 років тому

    He is teaching these children to do what? For WHAT? And why? Nobody watching this asks themselves this! But it is a big shame that he could not do this in his native country, the U.S., teachers are being layed off and our childrens futures do not look too bright. This looks all like romantacized nonsense. At least those children eat and have a future, why impose the American Dream on them, when it didn't work for him? THINK!!!

  • @thisischrisbliss
    @thisischrisbliss 11 років тому

    Why do I get the sense that the reversal would be laughable. Imagine one of those brown folks, in New Jersey, having no teaching credentials BUT learned English (very accented) and teaching "on the fly", trying to open a preschool. Would we consider him a joke, or a hero? Furthermore, would we call him an "ex-pat" or foreigner? This has white privilege written all over it; so subtle (notice how no commenters have caught it), yet powerful (notice how this man's praised instead of marginalized)!

  • @freedomdove
    @freedomdove 9 років тому +2

    Switch the intro music to something pleasing and find a non-annoying and less superficial host, and you just might have a great show. It's good, but only because of the people being interviewed and because of the beautiful countries.

    Why is this surfer dude admired for going into a community he knows little about and imposing his own american culture and values onto these kids- with no expertise or experience? How 'sad' that these kids before stayed with their families? And now the kids have 'personalities'? This is just embarrassing. How about helping the families from within their own culture? This guy it's why Americans get a bad name around the world.
