I don't think Islam had problems with striking. He just took a safer path after the KO loss in his second UFC fight. Now he's going back to the unsafe mode

Can’t just go around comparing him to guys with multiple belts or 5+ title defences. Gsp, DJ, Jones, Anderson, Cormier, Aldo, Cruz, Cejudo and even Izzy have to be ranked higher of the strength they’ve competed at the top way longer. Khabibs best wins are against McGregor post mayweather when he wasn’t training consistently and was drinking and sniffing coke every week, poirier who has lost to Olivera and gaethje and Gaethje who’s lost to a 145er and Olivera. What would happen if khabib fought someone like Volkanovski who’s hard to take down and doesn’t get tired and has 10x better striking? He’d probably lose imo, especially if he fought Volk in Perth the night Islam fought him. Khabib was a specialist eventually he’d have run into someone rounded enough to beat him, Islam is way more dynamic and imo will end up top 5 all time Khabib doesn’t have the resume to warrant it unfortunately. Why not just say he’s your favourite fighter? It would make more sense in all honesty.

Khabib style pressure pressure and drowning! He don’t need Volks neck like Islam. Islam is search for chockings. Khabib is style more dominant and it will work against every style of a fighter. Volk striking isn’t better than Justin’s or Dustins.

The quality of JRE has been dropping these past few years, Joe has gone from interviewing guests to interviewing himself and making his guests fight to say anything. You're supposed to dig into your guests - their lives, opinions, ideas, accomplishments, etc. - so that we the viewer learn something about them. Instead the guests are used for Joe to bounce his thoughts and opinions off of.
For any show, anywhere if a guest has to fight for airtime, what is the point of having guests?

I still think Volk shouldn’t have taken that fight at short notice. He should have taken the time, got a proper camp in and then fought. You can’t fight someone like Islam at anything less than your best. Shame, because that first fight was awesome - and he then came in compromised against Ilia.

Islam in my opinion is the most complete fighter since a prime Jon Jones.His elite wrestling and grappling with upper-tier striking, I don't see anybody in lightweight beating him anytime soon.

It’s not boxing it’s MMA striking can’t just say Islam is better at one thing and negate the fact Jones is far better at kicking, elbows and knees. Also have to factor in Jones stood with legit kick-boxers and outstruck them without even trying to take them down Islam just takes all the strikers down whenever he feels like he’s getting tagged.
Edit: 100% the most complete since Jones but come back to me when you have 2 belts and 10+ title defenses before your getting called more complete, Jones took down Olympic calibre wrestlers, submitted multiple black belts and outstruck multiple elite strikers in Islams title matches so far he’s fought a two strikers and a jiu jitsu guy with good striking who gets dropped by literally everyone. Impressive, yeah but better then jones nah he’s just not had anywhere near the amount of tests to confidently state that.

@@jacobballou81792 week volk= poor conditioning but islam knocked him out in round 1 so we can't use that if he got caught in the later rounds like after 3 you could use the argument. Also fighters always train almost daily for hours fight or no fight the difference with a camp is they put more hours and make it bespoke to the guy they're fighting and islam prepared for charles so it was also short notice for him. Don't just throw short notice out there analyse how it was different for each guy and how they may have been affected. Truth is that head kick was coming whether it was full camp volk or short notice because it happened so soon and volk has a tendency to block with 1 hand and in high level mma an X block is required.

He isn’t downplaying Islam, he is saying Islam’s fight style is complete but less flashy. Which will always be the case if you don’t focus on putting your “masters degree” (in Islam’s case, grappling) forward, rather using all the disciplines of MMA to literally outskill your opponents in every area of the game.
Makhachev is currently the most complete fighter in mma. He also has the best takedown system, look at how he mixes judo & wrestling.
Makhachev skills overall are just completely elite… he’s advanced in every department and I dont even think jones is. In fact, IslM is objectively better.

Volk very arguably beat Islam 3-2 in fight 1 and was short notice in fight 2. Volk defended 5/9 takedowns on a full camp. He was very much Islam's equal and Islam is elite of the elite and P4P number 1.
