Its cold, November. That oh so smooth jazz plays. A cup of coffee, a good book. The rain is coming down outside. Lights are low. Nice comfy couch, a big lazy cat, and a nice warm fireplace. That's the day.
Exactly as I enjoy it! When I was in college, if it rained, I opened all the windows, only lit a table lamp, brewed coffee and lounged on the couch to this album with a great book.
And then she walked through my door like a tigress walks into a Burmese orphanage - strawberry blonde and legs for hours. No dame her age could afford a coat like that, and the kinda makeup she had on gave me a good idea how she got it. She had bad news written on her like October of '29.
It's so luvly listening to this soft melody, enjoying a slice of homemade-tiramisu, and sipping on hot coffee... while it's all dark and raining outside !!...!! "Heavenly!" :)
This music reminds me of an episode at a famous jazz club in the 1930s. ;-) I sat there on a cool, rainy evening, tapping my fingers and nodding my head back and forth, drowning out the heavy rain beating on the club windows. That's when Mr. Long caught my eyes. We gazed at each other a few seconds before he made his way over to me. He removed his fedora, bowed slightly and held out a hand. I smiled, placed mine in his and he led me away onto the dance floor; my hips swaying to the music. Oh, that Mr. Long.
I had all the Jazz For CDs and they are one of the best collections of the jazz we listened in the 60s-90s. I used to communicate with the producer and we had some great dialogue between us. I put them all on my Google Play account. It's raining today so this is a great selection. And yes, it worked well for some afternoon interludes with a favorite friend of mine. She's gone, but the music and the memories remain.
Streiben Bones Same to me. Before Bebop I never liked jazz, not that I hated it or anything, it just never was my thing but after Bebop I got hooked. We are gonna carry that weight.
I'm mildly surprised I haven't found any comments mentioning the extraordinary outfit on the cover. She and it are quite an eyefull. I guess that it's a credit to Warren Vaché that (on this thread) everybody only wants to listen to and talk about his music. A superb player indeed! The British trumpeter Al Wynette first got me listening to Warren Vaché's music. That must have been about 40 years ago. A few years later I turned pro and purchased a long model cornet similar to one of Warren's I think. I still use that instrument quite a bit. Then a bit later I was delighted to hear him perform live at an intimate venue in London. I had the nearest table. Joy!
I carry this disk wherever I go - and can always find some way of playing/listening to it - could I have had it this long? - seems that I've never been without it - but at 80+ that's simply not possible!
This record belongs to a little but beautiful series. I´ve purchased three of them at Boulder , CO, in the early 2000s. Completely relaxing, smooth for ¨ the crime¨, hehe Luigi, fron Buenos Aires City
Players on 'I Can't Get Started' (Jazz For A Rainy Day | 1998): Warren Vaché - cornet, Richard Wyands - piano, Michael Moore - bass, Billy Hart - drums.
This version always reminds me of my kind, so very talented, and recently departed 'big' brother Max who used to play this tune so beautifully on his trumpet! He is sadly missed!
dinner party and i go to the library too grab a dusty copy of henry david thoreau. the candles flicker when i walk back into the dining room, the shrimp is just coming off the grill and my friends are chatting and a little bit drunk, i hear some laughs and "you gotta tell that joke too him" I sit down already full and happy.
I sat there like I did every friday night. In the corner of a small diner, sipping coffee and going over reports when she walked in. The Dark brown hair that covered her face was blown back to reveal a familiar face. She walked to the bar, letting her hips sway in time to the light music before sitting down. I waslost in thought as i tried to remember her. She finished her dinner and walked out, just as it started raining. As the door closed it hit me. I ran after her Umbrella in hand.
The year 1943, I was on leave from the War for 3 weeks. Lucky me. I went home for about two weeks, saw my ma and pop. But after getting too comfortable to regular life, I knew it was bad for me. I had to go, my parents wouldn't understand, but as I had one more week, I had to at least visit Paris. Sunday I got off the plane and met the most amazing gal ever, she was Belgium with this red scarf. My 1st day back in hell, we go to Belgium and I see a dead girl on the ground.. with a red scarf.
Answered my own question by finding it on Amazon: Warren Vache (cornet), Richard Wyands (p.), Michael Moore (wow, talk-about multitalented!)(b.), and Billy Hart (d.). No wouldn't call this "smooth' jazz as that can carry a very negative connotation; rather, it's just a beautiful jazz ballad played w/ skill and feeling.
The misty rain is still falling as I look down from second floor office onto the streets below and watch as she drives off. This could be a tricky case, but I never could say no to a redhead....
Regina Soares I think I pick this cd up in mid to late is also. However, I can't put my fingers on it just now... can you tell me who's playing the trumpet....or cornet?

Here we go again.
are you a writer?...because I think all writers can relate to that image, with a sense of adoration :)

Cowboy Bebop showed me once, how wonderful this kind of music is.
10 Years later, i'm still enjoying it... hmm ~
Same! :)
Streiben Bones

For me, it was the video game L.A. Noire. (Though I've been thinking about starting Cowboy Bebop)
