Thank you thank you!!! I was doing it backwards. It’s crazy how much knitting tutorials differ when watching English style ones. I subscribed. How did anyone learn to knit before you tube 😂
Hello NobleKnits, an excellent description and demonstration of the two increases. One correction if I may. The M1 increase can be done front to back if the increase is knit through the back loop. The interesting thing is, the M1FTB-KTBL causes the new stitch to lean to the right. Your increase (M1BTF-KTFL makes the new stitch lean to the left. In some patterns, this makes a big difference. When increasing while making a shawl bottom to top, if you want to increase in the middle or want your edges looking neater, then you’ll M1FTB-KTBL on the right side and the other way on the left. That truly makes the increases invisible to the non-knitter.
Thanks so much Helen. I’m a new knitter but I’m already fascinated with the differences in different types of increases and decreases so I love tidbits like that!
Hi Helen, absolutely! I made this a very basic intro to continental increases. I'm so glad to see you've already helped others with this knowledge. Thanks so much for sharing! 😀

Hi Linda, so glad I could help! 😀
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Clearly explained, done slowly so we can see what's going on, and straight to the point :)
You are such a good teacher! Thanks!
Thank you so much, Nealie! 😀
