This definitely tugged at my heartstrings. Sometimes when I see abandoned buildings I have often thought, wow, what a waste. There are so many homeless people that could stay in those and appreciate the shelter. This just goes to show that part of humanity that we often forget about. Blessings take on many different meanings in life, don't they? Great video Adam. Thank you for sharing this.

      @jsmurd 9 років тому +8

+mellymuse1 Yes, that's true. People have to survive and they have to do what they have to do during these tough economic times. It makes no sense to let abandoned buildings sit empty when people can live in them. If the property owners were doing something with those properties, then that would be different. Abandoned properties shouldn't go to waste when there is a need.

Man this video was great. I actually was in a very similar situation in Italy when I was exploring an abandoned cement factory. I noticed that on the top floors of some of the buildings there were people watching me while hiding behind the window frames. They seemed very frightened since there have been police raids there before to kick them out. They lived in really poor sanitary conditions and most of them looked like they needed medical help.
It's a sad world where there is enough for everybody yet some want it all to themselves.

The city has tried multiple times to come in and pick up the trash and re-paint these buildings and within weeks these people tag them up and leave more trash everywhere. They are the ones who started the fires. That building has been lit on fire twice an i am sure it was from them doing drugs. i agree people need shelter but ask yourself this. Would you want this building withing eyesight from your house? would you want your children playing outside while these vagrants are wondering around mostly on drugs. i know not all are on them but he only interviewed a couple out of the 50 living there

It's incredible when the law comes and tries to ruin things like this - as if forcing people out of a derelict property, where they have made some kind of home out of something completely unused and abandoned and to force them out onto the street or under a bridge etc....I understand the property has an owner (probably a bank that took over after the builders lost funding or went under) that can't have the risk of people there whether for insurance means or for the fact of trying to sell the property it just sucks for those who can truthfully make that property a live able place ...It really is incredible what some like Tinker Bell has done with their own little space and ingenuity that she could not have otherwise. Good on you Mr. Woo for hooking them up with a bit of supplies and food. I'm sure they enjoyed your visit and meeting a cool person who came to the "compound" for once...I'm sure they were suspicious at first seeing a random guy walking around filming !! Haha

There are people who are homeless who are just down on their luck, but the vast majority of them are long-term homeless because of drug addiction and/or mental illness. A lot of these people are desperate. You're walking around with a nice camera and they see drug/meal money just sitting there in your hand. They ended up being nice people and good on you for helping them out, but you should probably avoid going up into their domain without someone else with you.

yeah man, I live in banning...
they do very little for the homeless...
this compound is all the help this city offers.
    my friend ended up homeless.
    sleeping at the park.
we spent a whole day going from building to building looking for help for him...
everywhere said they only offer assistance for
    "women or women with children."
    it sucks...
I mean, WTF do we pay tax for?
shouldn't a homeless shelter be in every town?
I mean we got 30+ fucking churches in banning alone.
    another 20+ in Beaumont.
    no homeless shelter
(we taxpayers should have shit prepped in case we ourselves need to use it)
    and the city says it
    "cares"??????
yeah, it cares until you become homeless...
then fuck you, you better leave town or we'll use the police to intimidate you.
but I'm glad you showed this.
maybe now this town will wake the fuck up.

Mr. Potato I live in banning also. been here 12 years. it's not until now that I'm seeing how horrible our town is. I heard there is a hidden shelter here in banning but for some sketchy reason it's not publicly acknowledged. only the city staff know about it and even then u have to ask the right person to get the info. I have a friend at the school district that mentioned it to me

You're a good man, Adam. This video, as you stated, really helps put things into perspective. These are good, hospitable, vulnerable people who invited you into their homes. I hope this influences others to go out into the world and help their fellow man. Even what may seem to be the smallest of gestures to one may be monumental to another. Definitely counting my blessings. Thank you for another great video.

Not saying that should be the reason to prosper from somebody else"s bad luck, but the stories and the rawness of it is AWESOME Journalistic work. It was pure duck spit that you payed it forward to them and totally brightened there day!!! You are maturing in your videos and finding your way, keep it up buddy!!! 2016 is looking bright!

Really really good video! My heart sincerely goes out to and feels for people who find themselves having to live this way since there isn't any other way most of the time. It's actually inspiring to see people who just won't give up and WILL LIVE the best life that they possibly can without having anything (if that makes sense). Not to mention, all of the creativity and imagination that you see watching videos like this. They can take what alot see as "nothing" and make that "nothing" into something...like a home, a community, a family, etc. They might not be rich in money but alot of these people are super rich just in life itself.

Whenever I see an abandoned location video I wonder if there are homeless people living there. I also wonder why all these abandoned buildings are not turned into living arrangements for the homeless. It doesn't look like these people are doing anything bad...heck Tinker Bell is making improvements on her little area. The homeless problem could be solved just by using all these abandoned buildings.
