This young gun and others like him are the future of high end tourney bass fishing...blown away with his composure, speaking, details of learning the fish and the breakdown...crazy how dialed in! Very impressive. Best of luck Drew, appreciate your time and thanks Matt another great BTL. Drews knowledge n hearing the differences between his plan and maybe the old way to fish...wow...blown away.
Definitely one of the top five BTL‘s ever this was a great interview!! Drew may just be the next BIG DEAL GILL! He absolutely seems to have it together and has an unreal understanding of fish behavior at such a young age!! Looking forward to watching him this season!! Good luck in the open Matt🎣🎣
Very well said! As a college angler for Purdue and fishing in Indiana this is extremely relatable. Drew hit home when he was asked about how he was able to come from an area not well known for fishing and use it to an advantage. Places like Illinois and Indiana gets an extreme amount of fishing pressure with a small number of fisheries and fish numbers allow you to pickup up on small details that you can use out of state that others have not had to hone in on to catch fish. Understanding how to target those pressured fish and doing something different is key to success. I have been able to utilize this out of state to qualify for the All American and Bassmaster College National Championship by keying in on these aspects that often get overlooked. Thanks for a great podcast!
keep up the grind and showing who you are as a fisherman. Making a plan and fishing that plan on ever lake shows the knowledge you have and the drive to do well. These videos are the ones some of them guys need to watch who are complaining about FFS. Its not just staring at a screen, its still understanding the fishery and how to apply what your seing.
Incredibly impressed with this young man. One of the most well spoken individual I've ever listened to in the entire industry. I'm an instant fan of his now.
I knew watching him win that 3rd place finish he was going to be a problem. Not counting the fact he is well spoken. It definitely will be exciting watching him in the years to come! Thanks Matt!
Really good interview! As tired and prolonged as this argument has become, Drew really brought some new thoughts/perspectives. Seems like he brings a calculated approach to why he utilizes new technology and why it saves time and money.
47:37 FACTS good way to look at it bud. Glad I came up thru high-school when fishing wasn't cool but was at it'd best in the 2000s before it all tanked.
As a weekend angler who is still trying to figure out livescope I can honestly say that my livescope setup was purchased before we got the outboard running on our rig. I knew it was going to be worth the investment going into the weekend tournament scene so it was higher on my priority list than anything else. Technology is moving and we need to keep up to be competitive!
I am with Drew: Quick Trip is a great "gas station experience." When I am in Wisconsin, I intentionally look for the Quick Trips, and congrats Drew on the big Victory this past week!
Please make this dude a regular Matt! Kid knows more than most old heads I’ve heard talk about fishing. Oh and he’s now made $123k just this month in 3 tournaments. 😮
Drew is definitely an asset to the sport. His intelligence and maturity should be a relief to those of us who've been concerned about the, not just the direction, but also the character of future Bass Pros representing the lifestyle. The validity of such concerns should be obvious enough when unpalatable and mostly uninvolved or undeserving characters such as Ben Miliken with his public relations firm and Private Equity backers who has way too much exposure than he deserves compared to someone like Drew. DeBo, and Low Brow Fishing, that represent hot air more than they have any actual experience and knowledge as influencers. Focusing only on the effects of technology on the sport should be recognizably short sighted as well when having witnessed the influences of a literal open borders online environment is having on our current generation, which in turn will undoubtedly effect the future of the sport and industry. Drew represents the sport and his generation well. I really hope the best for him. He certainly appears to truly deserve it because he shows himself to be earning it from fruition as opposed to the serendipity benefiting those as mentioned above lacking the integrity and maturity as Drew has shown in action as well as in this interview. FFS IS IRREPLACEABLE FOR ITS EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS, no doubts, BUT ITS USE DURING COMPETITION REALLY HAS AN AIR OF ARTIFICIALITY with permanent implications. It's a trade off that makes sacrifices we're not ready to give up yet because we recognize the value of not imposing arbitrary "limitations" also.
Listen to Drew talk about how he breaks down the water.....and then tell me the only reason he catches them is because of FFS. This young man is highly skilled. Now he may not be able to skip a jig 25' under a dock, but he might be able to as well. Who knows. I agree 1000 percent when he said why would we not use the effiecency provided. Tell any professional in any field not just sports to not use the latest technology to his/her advantage. I have fished against Drew on Cumberland a couple of times he can fish. Like it or not.
I see both sides but the one thought I keep coming back to is if you take away livescope can that scoper catch them. Probably not by the way it sounds in this case. If you can’t catch them without looking at them on livescope then it needs to be banned
I agree with most of what Drew said, but comparing an outright Ban of A-rig to a technology limitation is not the same. I also think we should bring back Arigs with a cap on arms and baits. Also think we need a tech cap or limitation just like we have a Horespower limitation.
It shouldn’t matter how the lake Murray tragedy took place, but I can’t help but think lack of experience and being thrust into a big water derby was definitely number two in the list of what went wrong. My heart and prayers are with the families involved in that college tournament Tragedy
A question I was really hoping Drew was going to be asked is whether or not FFS baits are absolutely necessary, and whether or not they seem to be dumbed down versions or even advancing presentations and techniques at all?
This young man knows what he is doing with technology. What he don’t see is its changing the integrity of the sport. You do this to a real sports like football, basketball, and baseball I think people will have different feelings about it. Yes you need it to compete is what you call the “sport of fishing”. But it’s a small game, and people will always find ways to beat the system. Ask the hunters how they would feel if there was a hunting league and people use drones to spot game and gps it to track it down
I think he is a great Young Angler. Looks like he was raised in a great family environment! But , If this interview doesn’t beg to say how FFS is destroying professional angling nothing will ! This guy pretty much admits he can’t fish without technology showing him how to do it ! Sad sad sad !!!! Say goodbye to large fish dying from deep water and the total destruction of Crappie fisheries. It wont happen right away, in ten years there will be problems for sure! Professional angling will do minimal damage. But if the price goes down everyone will have FFS . Fisheries management will be the only way to stop it .
Back in the 70's and 80's seeing a 'newbie' was good, but without College fishing now the guys would be real rookies. Now I see a pro being a pro out of the gate. Good.
I bought a used Ranger for $16,000 when I was 16. My Dad co-signed my note but I mowed yards with our residential Toro and paid it off in a few years. I was still fishing out of it half way through my rookie season on the Invitationals last year so it’s doable. Had a 2005 tow vehicle until this winter. It can be done but like anything worthwhile…requires some sacrifice. Thanks for listening to the podcast. I appreciate it 👊
Who thinks this is a good idea? Have half tournaments without forward facing. That way, we can see who can catch them the traditional way. I dont want pro bass fishing to be, who can scope the best wins, as it is now. How many of you like the new fishing?
I dont fish tournaments. Just club tournaments. A few guys have it, but no one really knows how to use it yet in the club I'm in. I dont want to fish that way. Even if I had it and knew how to use it. I dont want to fish on a screen or find fish with it. It ruined watching pro fishing for me too.
It's a skill to fish with ffs, but it's also a skill to fish without it. Wouldn't you want to see it both ways? Wouldn't it be interesting to see a guy like drew gill fish without it?
@@michaellamenza7617 I don’t really care if people use it or don’t. I think my best option to win is by using it so I do and I’m interested in learning more so I can increase my skill. The entertainment side to me is bad either way. I’m watching some dude do nothing for most of the day. The angler UA-cam videos are way more interesting for me. 20 minutes of coverage for their highlights and some background is about as long as I can watch someone fish for “fun”
Gill would not be successful with out his FFS/Live Scoping...He is not fishing and using skills which takes years to develop he just catching fish what he can see on a video screen.
You want to talk about unfair, Jason Christie winning with it in 2017 before anyone else had it was unfair (but still love Jason) Old guys now wanting to ban it are flat out too lazy to learn it. Old fisherman have a sense of entitlement and either need to put the time in or get booted out. Old fisherman want participation trophies? I thought that was supposed to be the younger generation…
First off bucee's blows away qt. Qt barely beats 7-11. Maybe I've just become jaded but I sure hope these anointed college kids learn to cultivate personality to go with their electronics skills. Sure they can scope but they're boring to listen to. Props to Miss Hillary Sue Martin to have the personality part mastered already
Thank you David 👊
Definitely one of the top five BTL‘s ever this was a great interview!! Drew may just be the next BIG DEAL GILL! He absolutely seems to have it together and has an unreal understanding of fish behavior at such a young age!! Looking forward to watching him this season!! Good luck in the open Matt🎣🎣
Thanks Greg!!
One of the best episodes of BTL ever.
Thanks for listening 👍
He’s not fishing history, he’s fishing the present! Incredible insight.a very articulate speaker and thinker. He’s on a another level.

What’s up Zion!! Thanks for tuning in.
This man has got it figured out! He’s gonna be at the top of this game for a long time. Great show!!!
Thanks for tuning in. I appreciate it

Thanks Brent!! Love talking fishing. Matt’s show is one of the best.
Fantastic interview. Actually saved this one to listen to multiple times.
Drew Gill kicked butt on Rayburn this weekend!!!!
Wow! What timing! Got this video posted just after his win on Big Sam! This dude is calm, cool, and brilliant to be as young as he is.
Thank you Jeff. It’s been a fun start to the season.
Great job Drew. Representing Illinois very well. Keep up the great work young man.
At my age, I'm glad I can still find you on UA-cam.
Great episode. I'm now a fan of Drew Gill
Thanks Aaron!!
Absolute great episode! Drew is like a fishing savant! Watch out bass fishing universe!
Best show in a long time and
There have been plenty lately It Mae up my mind to get live scope this spring
Absolutely fascinating. Best interview I've watched in a while. Really opened my eyes about FFS. Great job!
I knew watching him win that 3rd place finish he was going to be a problem. Not counting the fact he is well spoken. It definitely will be exciting watching him in the years to come! Thanks Matt!
Crazy that you guys talk about my old stomping grounds! I fish Clinton Lake every year. I lived in Rantoul for about 5 years (my high school years).
It’s been a minute for Clinton and was VERY green when I fished up there. Need to get back up there sometime and see if I could dial it in.
Really good interview! As tired and prolonged as this argument has become, Drew really brought some new thoughts/perspectives. Seems like he brings a calculated approach to why he utilizes new technology and why it saves time and money.
Great interview Matt. Panger you awesome at guiding an interview and asking appropriate follow up questions
Drew gill is on my top picks this year!!! Kids running Hot 🎣
47:37 FACTS good way to look at it bud. Glad I came up thru high-school when fishing wasn't cool but was at it'd best in the 2000s before it all tanked.
tournament fisherman better pay attention to this young man! This guy is going places.

I love this. You’ve had your A** handed to you by the big ponds already. Dangerous group of “ rookies” I’m impressed
Matt looking like a genius, having the man scheduled before he wins his his major. Congrats to both of yall
I am with Drew: Quick Trip is a great "gas station experience." When I am in Wisconsin, I intentionally look for the Quick Trips, and congrats Drew on the big Victory this past week!
Excellent interview
WOW!!!! The Rain Man of fishing!!! He is legit!!!!!
YESSSSSSS! Kwik Trip!!!!
Matt Stefan 😂😂
Well Matt, I fondly recall when I was 40, back in the 1980's, It's too late to get it back. Dig it.
Please make this dude a regular Matt! Kid knows more than most old heads I’ve heard talk about fishing. Oh and he’s now made $123k just this month in 3 tournaments. 😮
No hesitation trey ,these boys coming in fast new drew fan

Make sure we have him on again Matt. I'm a fan now also. Awesome
Only young in age, he’s well seasoned. Hard work and many hours on the water paying off. 👏👏👏
Greed will be the end. Laugh, cope, whatever excuse you want but making it this easy has its downfalls
Man how smart this kid is truly amazing. The youth are taking advantage of the opportunity with this FFS while the rest just want to complain.

I refuse to believe this dude is 21. Mature beyond his years.
This dude is going to be great. Really smart!
These young bucks got so much more info at a early age its not so much trail and error anymore learning curve is so much faster so much more info now
Bass assassin great angler
you can tell if drew wasn’t bass fishing he would be a Amazing educator or coach my favorite young angler
It shouldn’t matter how the lake Murray tragedy took place, but I can’t help but think lack of experience and being thrust into a big water derby was definitely number two in the list of what went wrong. My heart and prayers are with the families involved in that college tournament Tragedy
My engineering brain is loving this 😂…… next 🐐
I really wish this was live Matt. I can see the wheels turning in your head 😂
A question I was really hoping Drew was going to be asked is whether or not FFS baits are absolutely necessary, and whether or not they seem to be dumbed down versions or even advancing presentations and techniques at all?
I wonder if in the near future practice time is significantly reduced or completely removed
Illinois boys coming hard this year
Dang, what a show
I'm a Ron Nelson fan but I can see Drew being a superstar soon

Impressive young man
It's a easy freaking fix!! Half the tournaments with ffs half without. Now it's fair for all skill sets and a lot more entertaining to watch.
I guess I'm lucky to have clear water all around me. Seeing the fish first has always been an advantage I guess.
Impressive dude
How does a 17 year old high school student afford to buy myself a 50k+ bass boat?
I bought a used Ranger for $16,000 when I was 16. My Dad co-signed my note but I mowed yards with our residential Toro and paid it off in a few years. I was still fishing out of it half way through my rookie season on the Invitationals last year so it’s doable. Had a 2005 tow vehicle until this winter. He’s a great kid with a bright future. Now that he’s completely gone pro, maybe I can start winning again on East Fork🤣🤣🤣 Drew knows what I mean 🤣🤣🤣
Good morning 🌄
Best show of 2024, yes. Highly impressed, yes. ‘Nuff said, other than he won $80K right after this show using the exact methodology discussed here…
mind blown
What’s up bass people!!
Sheesh. This dude is dropping knowledge...probably gave up too much of the goods.
Well this aged well lol
This dude is a sicko.
Pause and clear your damn throat 😂
This kid has the IT factor as KVD would say.
Who thinks this is a good idea? Have half tournaments without forward facing. That way, we can see who can catch them the traditional way. I dont want pro bass fishing to be, who can scope the best wins, as it is now. How many of you like the new fishing?
What I mean by "new fishing" is how the only way to compete is to pretty much exclusively use ffs.
No issues with what they are doing now. Only watch to learn so I can do better during my own tournaments.

Making $7 an hour and fishing to become a pro…seems legit lmfao

Young man talks like a 50 yr old pro. Gonna be a problem for the rest of the anglers. He gonna rip some lips
“Trey McKinney’s not a superstar yet, he’s only 18 years old”….. meanwhile he wins Lake Fork 😂
You want to talk about unfair, Jason Christie winning with it in 2017 before anyone else had it was unfair (but still love Jason)

No kyoya in the top 5 cmoooon
It is very easy to tell the truth. I have always found it quite difficult to do otherwise. Adios.

With no doubt he explained that FFS is here for ever, the ones who takes it to the next level are Professionals all others are Blue Collar..
Matt learn what this kid is doing and copy him 😊
The old school guys need to watch this interview and realize where they stand. This guy is unreal in his approach and methodology.
No matter how you rationalize it scoping is gay
Impressive dude
