  • From supersize Thunderbird 5 playsets to lesser-seen Anderson series on Blu-ray, today I'm dreaming about some of the Gerry Anderson merchandise I would love to see, and speculating how likely they are to actually happen.
Every Monday, enjoy a new episode of 'Security Hazard Minis' from Jack Knoll, the founder of the unofficial Gerry Anderson blog - securityhazard...

Something I’d love to see but will be firmly listed under “never going to happen” is a train set of the Pacific Atlantic Monorail/Anderbad Express! 😆

I agree 4x3 Thunderbirds blu ray is overdue! I'd like to see more of the audio dramas too, and would love a few newly written Fireball XL5 novels in the same format as the recent Stingray books.

A rerelease of those Bandai Pod Vehicle sets would be great.

Well, in Australia. (Same Blu-ray region as the UK) They have been re-releasing UFO and Space:1999 in beautiful hardbox sets! And fingers crossed for Thunderbirds in the normal 4:3 format in Australia, as we also got the same treatment with the dogey 16.9! And if that happens from the distributor, (Imprint Films) UK fans can also use buy that and play it!

I’ve really wanted a series of large, detailed Thunderbirds model kits. The Japanese company Bellfine is coming out with an extensive line, but they’re quite small. It’s a crime that there’s never been a 1/25 Fab-1!

The rest of the Supermarionation compilation films on Bluray would be awesome!!

My dream is a massive making of book on Thunderbirds on the scale of some of the detailed histories of Doctor Who. For that to happen there would have to be an influx of production paperwork but that is sadly lost/missing. I love SLR's history of Supermarionation and would love to see similarly detailed books on the later portions of Gerry's career.
Truly lucky to have what we do have! Grateful to the many parties who have made it possible for me to have such a collection.

The one other reason the UK desperately needs a proper Thunderbirds bluray set is for the audio! Since the DVDs were released in 2000, I don't think there have been any media releases with the original mono soundtrack (aside from the Shout Factory blurays) - it's always been the remastered 5.1 soundtrack. Which I'm sure is great when listening in 5.1, but I will always go for the original soundtrack without the additional intrusive noises added in.
Aside from that I would be all for getting the rest of the series out on bluray, but then again I don't think I ever got round to upgrading my blurays - all I have is a couple of individual Captain Scarlet and Terrahawks sets! Losing my job just before covid hit and now Network falling apart meant I never got round to getting all the other releases (but I am grateful they are region-free!)

AIP/Aoshima did a good TB5 model kit. An affordable re-issue of the AMIE Fab 1. It's a £10- £20 toy tops, but it always costs an arm and a leg. I'd love a metal FAB 1 from the CGI series that was a similar size to the dinky and Corgi versions, not the sad plastic one we got... Accurate cars from UFO/Doppelganger in 1/24 scale, model kits or diecast would be fine, the Dinky one was so far off the actual prototype. A revised Stingray from corgi with the correct shape for the missile outlets. A Titan Terror fish to go with the Corgi Stingray. A decent helijet from Thunderbirds, and also the helijet from Captain Scarlet/Joe 90 - 30 cm seems a nice size. Corgi could let the team who do their historic aircraft loose on them, rather than the "toy team" who usually bungle the accuracy. A diecast lunar shuttle from UFO - 30cm.
