Never once have I noticed the landscaping, air conditioner, fan, dishwasher, you name it, in the back of a video, of all times a UA-camr has apologized for it. Create in comfort. We can soldier on with whatever distraction you think we're hearing, and we will be okay.
I can't hear his AC over the roar of my own lol
I came here to say this. Many tubers constantly apologize for some background noise - never have I ever noticed anything they apologize for 😅
As long it's not music.
I did hear some creators neighbor running a leaf blower once but I didn’t care, thought it was funny
Power on, you go ! THG keeps me relevant. Pain is in and around my daily life..love that I can find hockey time here !! 🥅🏒☀️🎯🦋💙💚💜🌿
As soon as I saw Toronto hit the board I knew this was gonna be a good one
Only original 6 team outside the top half.
I swear some of y'all just have a spot in your head this team occupies rent-free 24/7 🤣🤣
@@_KRoseWhy would I charge rent for something that brings so much pleasure? But seriously, the Leafs-centric sports media, and the Cup Parade planners, they’re the ones who have the Leafs on the brain, “24/7/12/365”.
I'm a Leafs fan, and they deserve their rating IMO
Crazy that the North stars had more playoff success than the Wild…that’s wild
The North Stars and the Wild are total opposites. The North Stars were good in the postseason but not so good in the regular season. The Wild had good regular seasons but not so good in the playoffs. The North Stars benefited from playing when pretty much every team made the playoffs every year
@@daved1535 good point. They also benefited from being in the “expansion division “ for their first few years. Guaranteed finals berth
The North Stars were propped up by a league where 16 of 21 teams made the playoffs. 1991 is a prime example of that. 27-39-14 (68 points) regular season, but Jon Casey dragged them to the Cup finals.
@@KevinWindsor1971They had a great PP, Brian Propp scored all his goals on PP.
Shannon kicking the hornets’ nest and making the internet mad! 😁 You’re doing great!
I had a shower thought the other day: in their second season, the Kraken had already eclipsed the Blue Jackets franchise record for wins in one post season. Jackets should be bottom just for that alone in my opinion.
Holy shit you’re right, in 2020 they only won 4 total postseason games and 2019 they won 6. Kraken won 7 in 2022
I would've had Arizona ahead of Columbus. When they were Phoenix, they had some good seasons back when Roenick and Tkachuk played there
@@kaiuche8640 Yeah and that 2020 one includes the play in round, they really in ly won one playoff game. Going by that, their second best year is 2 wins 😬
@@daved1535 Exactly, late 90s/early 2000s Yotes were a legitimate playoff team, issue is they kept getting bodied by the Wings/Avs/Blues in the first round.
@@poejavelski148yeah the west back then was ridiculous lol .
Seattle placing higher than toronto 😂
It is kind of like when a QB in football would have a higher QB rating if he just spiked them ball on every play. Rather that trying and throwing picks and getting sacked.
@@MarkVrem toronto is with Columbus and the coyotes where they belong
I wonder how many negative points the Leafs accumulated during the 80s Harold Ballard years -- an owner who cared so little about the team that he sold their Stanley Cup banners. (Shannon's rating scheme can go into the negatives -- the Canucks at 22nd are at zero points). And how many positive points the Oilers got during that same time.
What a lovely surprise this was tonight Shannon thanks
As a wings fan watching them win 4 cups in my lifetime I want playoffs and have that cup drought feeling, but to be realistic I e been spoiled compared to other fans. Thanks for the video!
Honestly was expecting my Bolts to be higher but then I realized before 2015, they really only had maybe 3 or 4 seasons where they were a really good team 😂 8th is actually really respectable all things considered… The past 9 years have been a fever dream ⚡️
Really puts it into perspective how good the last decade of Bolts teams have been considering the age difference versus a lot of the other franchises below.
The Lightning know how to capitalize on their playoff appearances. Off the top of my head I think they’ve been to the 3rd round more often than being eliminated in the first two rounds. I think the Devils are the only eastern team who has a better head to head series win record against them. (Actually I guess there are stragglers like the Sens where they are 0-1 against, but still, they have not been a fun playoff team for other teams to play).
Also they didn’t exist til 92. So they wouldn’t get any points till they started playing.
@@jonasgorea3823 I’m assuming Shannon average them per season 🤔
@@poejavelski148 yeah just watched the vid 🤣🤣
Turning point for two teams: when Detroit hired Islanders' head of scouting Jim Devellano. At that point the Islanders were a dynasty and Detroit was the "Dead Wings". Withing a couple of years Detroit was on the rise to become a consistent cup contender for 20+ years and the Islanders were on their way to Fishsticks.
Dear lord, the spread sheet for this...
I think this is the highest that Shannon has ever had the Habs on a power ranking! That is, until they win the cup next year.
I was surprised Oilers were 3rd, thought the decade of darkness would lower us a lot. Lucky that we used to be good lol
They'd be 13 or worse without 06 and this season. Could be 1 or 2 if they can run it back next season
@@thatbzguy916it’s crazy but it’s true, 2 seasons basically make or break their ranking, if they win in 06 and 24 they’re probably 1 or at least 2, but if they don’t go to the finals in either of those years they’re probably not even top 5
A most interesting and informative video. Thanks Shannon.
people forget the habs won the atlantic/northeast in 2013, 2015 and 2017. they also owned the Norris division too, being first from 1975 until 1982.
the pedigree has always been there, it's just the stanley cup that needs to come back home in Montreal.
@@chrisbelos2834 Don't forget that they're Western Conference champs too
If you end up doing a Sharks video like you said, one thing I'd be interested to hear your opinion on is if sending so many players to the Olympics compared to other teams played a role in not getting over the hump. I don't remember which year, but I felt like one Olympics they sent more players than any other NHL team, and by the time the playoffs rolled around, they didn't have anything left in the tank.
Had to be the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Remembered they sent Thornton, Marleau, Heatley, And Boyle. Think Pavelski as well for USA and Nabokov for Russia.
Chicago blackhawks sent half their roster to the Olympics.
I love you, Shannon. Thank you for everything
On god I love this man
Cool concept I love stuff like this
It is crazy you did this video today, I was literally looking at 80s teams and rankings today. 😂😂
Thankyou Shannon. Keep posting content. I’m already missing hockey. You make the off season easier
In 1984, at 10 years old, the penguins became my team to watch. Because Lemieux.
It’s been an amazing, lucky ride.
With lows, and this feels like a dip to low again. We shall see.
You mentioned that you made a video years ago about the Blues almost moving to Saskatoon. There are so many interesting old videos on your channel. Would UA-cam allow you to recommend them? Call it the "video of the day from the archives."
Man this was very well done. As always 👏🏻👏🏻
Look at Pittsburgh, second city in Pennsylvania, joke of the league throughout the 80s, and yet they managed to become a model NHL franchise, as much as it pains me as a Wings fan, I have a ton of respect for the Penguins franchise and their players
It’s CRAZY hot here in Calgary, stay cool to everyone in Western Canada!
Great effort put into this! Nice job THG man.
As a Kings fan, I am surprised we were ranked as high as we were. One of the mind-blowing facts for me (in a bad way) is that the Kings have three times as many conference championships (3) as we do division championships (1). We've had a lot of bad years, and a lot of years where we were good, but never the best. My team has only won its division once, as in a single, one time in 56 years of existence. That's just insane. A lot of suffering was alleviated in 2012 and 2014.
shannon is locked in during this offseason. im ready
I started watching and attending Penguin games in 1979. First game vs the Rockies. Second game Edmonton being Gretzky’s NHL rookie season. We had season tickets starting in 1981 and gave them up after the 83-84 season in which the Pens had 38 points for the season. Average attendance for home games was around 8000 if I remember correctly. The 1989s were not good for the Penguins overall though they almost beat the SC Champs Islanders in the 1982 playoffs. Even though they got Lemieux in 1984, they were not good for awhile. They couldn’t beat Philadelphia especially at the Spectrum. It wasn’t until the late 80s when things started to improve dramatically with the acquisition of Paul Coffey, Tom Barrasso and others to put them on the road to the Cup in 1991. After their first Cup win, Pittsburgh became a destination for players wanting to play there.
Love the Rockies sweater
Wow what a feat! That's over like 40 years my dude. Well done.
Vegas number 11 in your power rankings with only 7 years. I will take it. This was awesome. Nice Video.
I would've never imagined 15 years ago when I got back into hockey that I'd see us ranked as the 4 best franchise of the last 40 years. What a surreal experience it is to have a team like this (best defenseman in the league and a 140 point Hart winner) that's not just successful but insanely fun to watch too.
You are part of the Avalanche, franchise?
I'm part of the fanbase so yes I am.
Amen bro! I got into hockey almost exactly 20 years ago when the Avs were at the end of their great run of division championships. The 2010s were pretty rough, but man the last 6 years have been such a fun ride! Here’s hoping for more!
@@RIPJimmyA7X Makar was not the best defenseman in the league this year, he was second best. The best was Quinn Hughes
@@chadjordan4694 Hughes had the best year but ask the players or really anyone else who the best defenseman in the league is and it's pretty unanimously Cale
I remember seeing the Rockies vs Flyers playoff series highlights on CBC in 1977 when I was a kid. My buddy's uncle played on the Colorado Rockies. I remember seeing a few Cleveland Barons highlights too when I was young. Islanders were my fave team back then and it was amazing seeing them win those Cups. I jumped off the Islanders bandwagon when Mike Milbury and brutal ownership were destroying the franchise. Nordiques had some classic playoff series in the 80s and were one of my fave teams. I always liked the Whalers but they usually struggled in the playoffs. I hated the Canadiens as a kid and still vividly remember Dino Cicerelli's rookie season when the North Stars eliminated the once-mighty Montreal club from the playoffs.
From the year I was born to now. Awesome!!
So stoked for the Sharks video you talked about! I love reliving the pain haha. 2000 and 2004 immediately come to mind. 😂
@@jeremyfraass2264 2014 was a sad year for sharks as well
Habs 👀
We love to bitch about our team all the time but we've really not been so bad compared to the rest of the league.
@@Belial87 We are the champions of "just reaching the playoffs and anything can happen"
Nothing ever does.
@@brianbednarek8232 The Sabres missed the PO for 13 straight years!
@@Belial87 Yeah,I think the whole league is rooting for them in the meantime. If they went on a cinderella run you'd have people crying in the streets in Minnesota.
I’ve been watching your videos for a couple years and this is by far the highest I’ve ever seen the Habs on your power rankings. Super weird.
I can't hear your A/C when mine is running too 😁
Gonna keep this list in mind when framing what teams are overall underdogs in future playoff runs
Go Penguins!
Haven't watched the video yet, but I can NEVER NOT like those words!
@Vodagraph I said go pens soon as I clicked watch. I didn't even know where he was going to rank them... I assumed it would be top 5 but I didn't know it would be what it was. GO PENGUINS!
It’s nice to have a win right now, even if it is something as simple as power rankings lol
@@justbleedprod.9414 facts
Looking forward to that Sharks video! That era of Sharks hockey was amazing and looking back I never realized how spoiled I was. Shame they never won it all with that core but it was still a good time to be a Sharks fan.
Shannon I would love to know who your greatest teams of all time is
UA-camrs are always way more concerned about AC vs the amount of noise it makes.
Can you make a video for each team's best 5 year stretch in their franchise history. I thought it would be cool with each team having their own video. Maybe you can highlight key trades, the best players of the team in that time frame, playoff success.
Got my attention with Patrick Roy and looks like 1986 with the white mask. Awesome video Shannon Let’s Go Knights ⚔️🏆
If only the RedWings could be #2 overall in MY lifetime lol
Were you there during the Lidstrom era? If you got to see Datsyuk play, I'd consider you lucky enough
I was born into Roman decadence 😂
@@nathanspreitzer6738 I had season tickets the year they set the record for losses, then watched them build. Hope to be around for another cup...
If I did a similar ranking, Habs would probably be the number one team. So thank You for making me feel old.
I was close. I had Detroit 1st and Edmonton 2nd. But I didn't have the stats and I really didn't become a serious hockey fan until 1995. I forgot about Pitt's wins in the 1990's
Tampa coming in at 7 when they cam into the league in 1993 is insane! I wonder what it looks like if Shannon starts with the 90-91 season. They essentially get 13 0's with this current year format and still performed top ten. Great video as always!
Shannon woke up and chose violence. Love it!
All is right with the world when the Habs and Bruins are at the top of a power ranking and meet again in the playoffs and beat eachother as if the Cup was at stake.
Great to see the Wings higher than I expected (Bc of the Dead Wings). If it was from the time I started watching in 92-93 Im pretty sure they would be first.
These vids are cool 😎.
As a younger fan I didnt realize this but the Blues made the playoffs like 25 years in a row from the early 80s to the early 2000s. The fact that they didnt win a cup in those years has to be some kind of record.
Very fair rankings
wings should be first for the fact that they never won a lottery yet still was as good as they was
My poor ‘Yotes. C’est la guerre.
I'm just wondering where Corey Perry lands for all of his cup final appearances, lol
I remember when Pittsburgh almost lost their franchise in the late 90s and they couldn't afford to pay Jaromir Jagr anymore. Crosby literally saved the franchise with a lucky draft lottery ball. Oilers had that long brutal stretch until that lucky draft lottery ball got them Connor McDavid too. Mmm ... Maybe a lucky lottery ball is more important than a good GM ;-P
this feels like a covid summer video and i love it
Crosby will continue to play until the next superstar from the Q falls on their lap. That's how the franchise work.
The world does not deserve THG's videos, he is enriching us all.
The top row has an interesting mix of teams that either play consistently well (but not overpowering) for a long time and teams that use scorched-earth rebuilds to amass a powerhouse team, so kudos to you for designing a points system that allows both types of teams to score well. However, I'd still rather see Cup winners like Florida and Calgary placed above teams that perennially choke in the playoffs.
Florida was a team that for decades didn't know what playoffs were
That was fun. Agonizing as a Stars fan, but fun!
The air conditioner has like zero effect on the audio.
Love where the Blues ended up!
@@jamesboley573 I am sure it pained Shannon to put the Bluenote that high. Absolutely love his channel, though. You can tell his passion by videos like this.
The fact that Boston is ahead of my Habs fills me with a great depression.
Hello Darkness my old friend...
I would love a video on the Sharks. It baffles me how that organization doesn’t have a Stanley cup. So many great players and teams throughout the years
I agree with this list!
oh youre already on vacation. that was fast.
Very interesting to note that every team on the board has had at least one run of no playoffs/just miserable hockey despite their overall success.
I don't even hear the AC on or off.... Leave that sucker on! I hate being hot
Why isn't Atlanta/Calgary in the moved category? They moved to Calgary in 1980, which is this video's start date, but they did move.
I think he starts from 80-81 season, so I guess missed it by a season.
Calgary started playing in 80-81 season. Otherwise, Islanders would have been bumped up with their Stanley Cup in 1980.
26 hurts but is not surprising; 7 feels sooooooooooo high, but so heartwarming, as a fan who started watching hockey in 95-96.
WE ARENT 32!!! WOOO! I'll take 31!
I feel for you. Anyone who is a jackets fan is someone who loves hockey for the sake of the game.
Crazy to think that every time Ovi and Crosby met in the 2nd round the winner won the cup. If those series fall the other way the caps could’ve been top 10 on this list
Penguins are going to tank next for the 2026 draft and get Mckenna
"Potvin has trouble with it" Words etched into my mind at 10 years old when we PWNED the leafs in Round 3 Game 5 "GREG ADAMS! GREG ADAMS!"
I own a gorgeous, Lanny MacDonald Rockies sweater.
If Detroit beats Pittsburgh in the '09 final, do the teams swap spots in this ranking?
5 out of 7 canadian teams in the bottom 3rd of the league. That explains the "drought"
The biggest surprise for me is Montreal! It feels like they were never good in my lifetime, aside from the 1 finals run
Was that the original power rankings board before the puck board??
I figured the devils in around 7,8,9 from the get go. When we are good HOT damn. When we are bad... Yikes lol
I was hoping for top ten, but once we passed Isles, Rags, and Flyers, 9 is just icing on that cake. LGD got get into the top 5!
Okay, so lets do one on teams and Number One draft picks and your Voodoo math...
Shannon, can you confirm that the 1983 Stanley Cup final loss was included in your Oilers calculations? You just mentioned 2006 & 2024 in your video.
I wouldn't say Dallas misses the playoffs a lot. In 30 seasons, they made the playoffs 19 times and missed 11. 63% of the time they get in
No matter how you slice it Toronto would be at the bottom for this timeframe.
Isles fan here, 16th is perfect we are the most mediocre team anyways lol. Since the 80s this has been a struggle. Management is happy they are mediocre and can grab some extra cash for a playoff game maybe but we aren’t a serious threat to be contenders, well ever
Hell yeah go Penguins! 🐧
I feel like the Nashville one is a very direct grade on David Poile and the Red Wings one is grading Ken Holland.
Rocky hockey!
as my math teachers told me, "Show your work!"
The Sharks 10-15 years ago were a little like the Canes the past few years except probably better. Very strong. Oddly, there's the Burns connection.
Go Wings!
Hockey guy should make a video about taking his three favourite teams ( Boston Van Dallas ) constructing a team from all the years he's watched and doing a review if he thinks that team could win this year's cup.
The rules for the assessment is if you take a player off a specific line you cannot take another player off that same line and throw him on the second line if they are of the same position and from the same line.
Line ones construction must be all top liners and native LW native C native RWers
Line two all line two'ers with native LW Native C Native RW.
Ect goalies too starter native with backup native.
Coaches .. head coach native assistant native ect.
All old players are evaluated and applied as if they had modern technology and training.
Players can't all be in their primes so balance hypothetical ages. You can pick atleast 2 superstars in prime years in the forwards and defenceman . Team dosent have to be all veterans either.
Salary cap and past injuries dont need to apply either.
It would be a fun video for you to do Shannon and informative about your favourite teams.❤
Please as THG fans vote this comment to encourage Shannon!!
I forgot to mention the defence same rules apply!!!
So If you are generally into the concept please vote this I'm sure Shannon would love this 💡!!!
the stars the nucks the bruins oh my
In Grier we trust 🙏
"I need to make the internet mad." Welcome to the dark side, Shannon!
