Awesome Adrian! Definitely my favourite Stooges tune of all time - as a teen, I struggled endlessly trying to learn this tune - way back in the late 70s - no UA-cam back then just my turntable and the an well worn old piece of vinyl - over and over again and again I played that tune though I never had the ear or the natural talent to figure it out in its' entirety - finally, now almost sixty years of age, I can finally rip along with James Williamson and the LP thanks to you dude! Cheers from Canada mate!!!!
Because of this video I can play the whole song I learned it last summer from here still one of the first things I play when I pick up guitar and warm up with before I start a writing session thanks brother 🙏
So ... I realize this video has been up for a while. But, thanks for leaving it up. I found the "James Williamson shows how to play" video for this, BUT he doesn't show how to play any of the fills. I know it's rudimentary to most people - but, not to an old guy like me that's finally starting to learn to play lead (after playing Drop D power chords for 20 years. I started playing around 2000 (as an already old-ish guy). I could have really used someone doing Joy Division & Smiths how-to videos (online, for free-ish). Guitar teachers around here, back then all wanted to be Steve Vai (cool, but whatever) & taught blues rock in the most convoluted way as to squeeze as much $$$ out of people as possible. Thanks again!
Sir , I wish to thank you sincerely. I have been wanting to learn this song for a long , long time ......... What a work out ...lol..Stooges forever!!! Rock on ....
I was using this lesson on your site, but it was a few days before I finally scrolled down far enough to see all your further comments with the linked video of James Williamson teaching it. Very nice.
Fantastic tutorial, man! Solid presentation from someone who knows what he's talking about. I've been trying to work this tune up by ear for a while and wasn't hearing small part of it quite right. You've talked me through it. Forever indebted.
Keep up the good work. I'm only just starting to learn, but your guides are very clear and well structured. Gonna start going through your beginner lessons. Thanks!
A really great lesson, very clear, detailed without being overbearing, not so dumbed down as to be boring. In other words, a good match to my current skill and knowledge level. Funny thing is I just learned Gimme Shelter by the Stones, Search and Destroy song is actually structurally very similar, albeit played in standard tuning rather than open E. I am just getting to the knowledge level where parts starts fitting together and what I learned from the last song readily applies to the next song. Fun! Thanks!
Hey, nice work! Thanks for the video. Very good lesson, easy to follow. Funny thing what you said in 18:54 or so: "You might be one of these lucky people who can just feel this stuff naturally... but if you find yourself struggling then you might want to count your way through this part". Yes, we're all different. I can't honestly count my way through any song. I don't have any problems getting this rhythm right though, it does come naturally, but if there's some weird rare time signature or some strange progressive melody line or rhythm change or something, I'm lost. And that's fine, I'm okay with straightforward metal/rock/punk/blues, but it's sure good to learn to count the beats!
Cheers Adrian, I am not keen on this song but my singer wants it in the set so your video has been great. And my cheat sheet is: 8:10 -- riff 12:15 -- another bit 16:13 -- pre-chorus 19:05 -- chorus, possibly, dunno will learn all the bits tomorrow 23:41 lick 1 25:45 lick 2 but like you suggest I'm not going to do any of that slavishly. Thanks again. :-)
Thanks for this great video! I love your tone, your playing, your attitude, and your teaching style. In the interest of constructive criticism, I want to point out that the single-note riff in the prechorus that connects from the F# to A (it happens at around 13:51 in your video) is a bit different from what you're playing, at least to my ears. Try the same four-note figure, but instead of starting on F#, move it up a whole step to G#, so the notes are: G# - A# - C# - D#. I checked this against the original recording and it sounds right. (I also checked against various live versions, but it's harder to tell because there isn't as much clarity in the recordings.) Please give it a try and let me know if you agree. Thanks again ... keep up the great work!
Beautiful axe! Looks like an almost exact copy of the '55 Les Paul Custom that Jimi Hendrix owned (I say almost because Jimi's had P90 pups). Very nice indeed!
You sound like a spoiled little girl craving attention by talking utter crap! It's just rock n roll, if you are going to be petty enough to put it into a music genre, it's pure glam/punk! Obviously you are not a musician!
Please do not apologize for this lesson being long. I think it's absolutely brilliant that you've learned to play it perfectly. I think this is the first ever punk rock song. wasnt it recorded in 69 or something and it's the most fucking punk thing to this day. Your guitar set-up sounds amazing as well. Big appreciation, respect sir. Can you play "I think I'm wonderful" by The Damned? or "The Kiss' by The Cure?
Adrian man great tutorial...you preserved the attitude element of the song but still taught a concise, specific lesson. You did it justice. any chance you could do some more stooge's songs? maybe "down on the street" or "gimme danger"?
Agreed, I have the whole song down but can’t figure out the solo at all. The recording it is too covered up by the other instruments and tabs are awful and inaccurate for the solo
Can someone please help me find a correct tab for Gimme Danger I have been looking for months and I can't seem to find anything, everything is just slightly different from one another and the more I search the more I get confused
Hi Adrian, another great lesson. How about Another Girl Another Planet some time? It's an all time post-punk classic with great rhythm and that amazing lead. Cheers, Andy
Andrew Moody Thanks a lot Andy. Love Another Girl Another Planet, very good choice! I'll definitely add it to my list of songs to look at in the future.
Great lesson, thanks a lot for sharing it with us! If you take requests, a lesson for "I need somebody", by the Stooges as well, would be fantastic. Thanks!
The answer is on his website : "For my video, I’m using my Jimmy Page Les Paul Custom, through a Marshall DSL401 amp. So as not to annoy the neighbours, I had to keep the volume fairly low and used an old Rat pedal for extra distortion, which seemed to get a suitably filthy tone."
Great lesson, thank you very much .can you show more velvet underground and more punk rock groups? Great site ! Got lots of watching and practicing to do . Cheers!
It's the exact copy of the '55 LP Custom that Jimi Hendrix owned (except Jimi's had P90 pups). One of the few Gibsons Jimi owned. (an SG Special and a few Flying V's being notable as well) A great guitar indeed!
это блин просто офигительный урок, чувак! сильный контраст - парень в очечках играет такой адский гараж на гибсоне с вибрато!! Just wanna say it will be no shame for die in the moment of listening to this song. nice glasses btw. and Gibson
I was just thinking, my old band were back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. We didn’t have UA-cam or tutorials. We just played the record and tried to work out how to play the song. Probably made lots of mistakes.
Bless you my boy, I'm almost sixty and have been wanting to play this song since I was fifteen.
Exactly the same situation for me. I think I can actually do this now. Thank you very much!
Me too.
And me. 64
59 here!
jeez you've been playing that long and still couldn't figure it out by ear ?
Modest, no show off. Pure, calm and clear. I have learned a lot from this tutorial. Thank you

Here's me enjoying all of your country lessons and then I come accross this little ditty.
Fantastic lesson!!!
Sir , I wish to thank you sincerely. I have been wanting to learn this song for a long , long time ......... What a work out ...lol..Stooges forever!!! Rock on ....
Dude, I love the way you talk about music and how to play it. Thanks for making this video! I learned quite a lot from this.
thank you so much
I was using this lesson on your site, but it was a few days before I finally scrolled down far enough to see all your further comments with the linked video of James Williamson teaching it. Very nice.

The sound of your channel has gotten a lot better over the years. Great song to do.
00:43 most satisfying moment in rock history
You are the best guitar teacher on You Tube, you're channel is ace , I've been through so many of you vids - Big Up you're good self!
Your and your
James wrote Probably the best guitar riff ever ! He used his Les Paul Custom and a cranked AC30 top boost for the recording. Good job!
That sound was PEEEEERFECT dude!!!! The fuzz and everything was perfection
Thank you, so much... you are a very good teacher, and, your guitar is a beautiful killer 🎸❤️
Yay now I'm ready for band practice Friday night. Good video!

Best Guitar teacher I see around The stooges rock
Great lesson, thanks for slowing it down and going step by step. Thanks man!
The pre-chorus is one of my favorite guitar parts. Great video!

I love u so much for teaching the solo so patiently

This is a Real Great Hard Rock Song (this is not punk musically)... love it and love your lessons
You sound like a spoiled little girl craving attention by talking utter crap! It's just rock n roll, if you are going to be petty enough to put it into a music genre, it's pure glam/punk! Obviously you are not a musician!

thank you for this! you are definitely in my top 5 of all youtube guitar teachers, appreciate you!
What do I do if I don't bar with my index finger but play chords with my thumb like a lot of blues players? The transition while doing that is tough
Well instructed thanks tons! 🤘🏻❤️
Adrian man great tutorial...you preserved the attitude element of the song but still taught a concise, specific lesson. You did it justice. any chance you could do some more stooge's songs? maybe "down on the street" or "gimme danger"?
thumbs up.
can i request you do some lesson on " Stooges - Down on the streets " ?
Agreed, I have the whole song down but can’t figure out the solo at all. The recording it is too covered up by the other instruments and tabs are awful and inaccurate for the solo
Thanks! Great lesson and fantastic taste in music. Loving it!
greatt lesson love the stooges. best vid on youtube for this song
Thanks a heap Adrian.
On 0.44 I would have played Absus / f sus4 (four strings instead of 3) getting the heaviness of what I hear on the record.
Always brilliant!!!!! Many thanks!
Great lesson and easy to follow....cheers
Can someone please help me find a correct tab for Gimme Danger I have been looking for months and I can't seem to find anything, everything is just slightly different from one another and the more I search the more I get confused
Great sound. Thank you.

I agree w/the post below. Your tone is spot on. I’m a stickler for tone. I just get it right. What’s the secret?
Adrian,you're the best!
There's a lot more to this than one might think. Classic.
May be old, but brilliant tutorial- love your taste
You rock! thank you! I really enjoy your videos.
Great lesson, thanks a lot for sharing it with us! If you take requests, a lesson for "I need somebody", by the Stooges as well, would be fantastic. Thanks!
Awesome job man 👏 I don't think you made a mistake on the single notes it sounds fine to me Well done! 😎🤘
Excellent work there sir.
Thank you for this mate, love The Stooges' 'Search and Destroy', excellent playing!!!!
This was awesome. Rock on, bro
Your tone is amazing! What pedals are you using?
Just use a ds1 you’ll get a good tone with that
@@slinkycrown8757 no way. The DS-1 is a distortion pedal. And the effect used in this video is definitely a fuzz pedal.
Strato Dude well I used a ds1 and it sound amazing maybe I don’t know anything about effects.
@@TheStratoDude its overdrive my guy
Another great video! How about doing a lesson on Son of Three by the Breeders? The chord progression is BEATLES LEVEL.
I dunno this kid but I love this kid! Nice job!
It's a pretty good lesson. I hope you could do Gimme Danger - Thanks
this guy is just terrific
Great playing mate, and wow that guitar looks and sounds fucking amazing!!!!!
phuk I love the sound of a distorted guitar
nothing like it, right?
Best guitar distortion I've heard in AGES
Ha thanks. I tried to go as filthy as possible, which seemed appropriate for this song.
Excellent Adrian, wish I hadn't given up 'trying' to learn/play guitar - excellent piece of playing!!! ;o))
Great lesson, thank you very much .can you show more velvet underground and more punk rock groups? Great site ! Got lots of watching and practicing to do . Cheers!
Nice job‼️
This is my exact dream guitar. Maybe I'd get some custom inlay on the fretboard...
It's the exact copy of the '55 LP Custom that Jimi Hendrix owned (except Jimi's had P90 pups). One of the few Gibsons Jimi owned. (an SG Special and a few Flying V's being notable as well) A great guitar indeed!
Thanks a million for this one
Great lesson! Thanks
