Man this brings back memories! I lived here in the late 80s/early 90s. My parents owned a shop on mill lane. Had many a summer nights chilling out in that park
I used to take my son in his pram later pushchair there every week. He was fascinated by the mill and waterfall. In later years he ended up working in the Annex, original stable block I believe. Full circle. Lovely video.
The whole of Carshalton village has so much charm and history. I'm always interested in how the council diverted the Wandle underground, as I remember the 'canal' in Carshalton Park and by Westcroft leisure centre being full of water. The most recent times I'm aware of recently was during the winter storms of 2013
I've been going to the Grove since the early 60's, fishing for sticklebacks and generally enjoying the park, remember when they concrete lined the ponds and canal at the end of the 60's and you could walk everywhere. Great Vlog Marq
The Wandle. The river that just keeps on giving. I'm looking forward to when you eventually get up to the north Merton and into Wandsworth stretches before it enters the Thames. There used to be some wrecked barges in the upper reaches. Perhaps I should come up and join you in a walk?!
I was hoping to see the big, beautiful and very old Cedar of Lebanon tree (over 400 years) that sits in Grove Park and hangs over the pond. Please someone tell me that it is still there!
@@MarqEnglish It is very kind of you to reply to my enquiry. I am fully aware that you cover many more subjects and areas than my childhood nostalgia. In which; you and algorithms have peaked a flurry. Though there was a deal of discourse in the comments, by people with local knowledge and interest. There is still a chance!
I have many fond memories, used to go ther a lot as a child still do from time to time.
Thanks Mike.

Glad to help with those memories.
Another oasis of calm - carshalton seems full of these places; unexpected but great they are there :)

Thanks for sharing the memories Sandra.
Don't know how I missed this one. Food for my 'longing' soul. Thanks, Marq

Yes, I think it was 2013 James.

Thanks very much, lovely memories there.
The person who wrote the sign about the rats does have a valid point!! Always annoys me when some animals and birds are classed as vermin.
I agree, every animal has the right to roam wherever they like.

Come and join me for the next bit then Nigel....
Best part of the borough I think.
I think so too.
Used to have a great time there catching sticklebacks as a kid 😁
Lovely memories.

I know nothing about it, sorry. Worth checking out now.

@@TheHardlove4u One thing I love is reading people's comments about their childhood memories of these places. Thank you.
