These concerts are great for many reasons, one of which is that everybody's standing up and dancing the whole show, which I'm almost positive would have never happened in these venues in front of these orchestras

Lovely capture. Was there for the last show on Sunday. I sure as hell hope that they recorded all this well and release it, because IMO this collaboration is right up there with Procul Harum and the London Symphony, and the Moody Blues with the London Symphony. Note that the featured Wolf Pack cellist is the NSO's principal cellist, and will be performing the Benjamin Britten Cello Concerto with the NSO on 22 October.

They seem to get out of synch a few times, but still, this is rad and a treat. This band is also fairly new to playing with orchestra (?)…to my knowledge anyway.

The intro first night explained first collaboration between a jam band and a symphony orchestra to the emcee's knowledge (certainly arguable). The accomplished composer that transcribed and adapted the originals for orchestra, was honored, Stanford music professor Giancarlo Aquilanti.

A very good first step. I think the arranger should feel free to be way more bold. I was hoping to hear some passages where a la Bartok, the different sections of the orchestra clash together. There were some little nods to Rites of Spring which I liked, but with all of that potential, I think the arranger should have been more adventurous, take more risks. Deadheads can handle it!

From an NPR interview...."a new experience for arranger Giancarlo Aquilanti.
AQUILANTI: I had two different reaction. One is say, why don't they sit down and they listen what we're doing here? And then at the same time, it would be disrespectful to the audience to pretend that they sit down. That's how they enjoy the music, and that's how they should continue to enjoy the music. It was so different, but there was so much energy that translated also into the way we played the music."
