There are many individual musicians, I consider as my theachers and comforters, but only one Nation have this position in my heart... The Celtic Nation...
The Transatlantic Session hosted by Jerry Douglas & Ally Bain, and what a cast! Jerry Douglas on the steel, Michael McGoldrick on the Bb whistle, to name just a couple of the stars on this.
What a beautiful song! Such a gentle, flowing caressing piece. The arrangement, musicianship, and truly beautiful vocal performance touch my soul! WOW!!! This melody will echo in me all day; oh, I so wish I knew Gaelic to keep the lyrics in my mind also! THANK YOU! LOVELY!!!!
This was broadcast in the noughties as part of the great Transatlantic Sessions series. A much missed great series that almost single handedly promoted Gaelic Scots and Irish music. The American guests loved it.
BUÍOCHAS. Stunning music & as I do not speak Irish. I really appreciate the lyrics in both languages. It's a beautiful way to teach my children the irish language threw song. X
Well , music is a good way to help teach a language to kids , but this isn't Irish Gaelic it's Scottish Gaelic. Scottish did descend from old Irish and the two languages have a lot of mutual intelligibility they are still two separate languages both equally beautiful languages.
The 'gheallaibh' in the vocables does not mean 'promise'. 'Geallaibh' is a command/ imperative form of 'promise' in plural/ polite form; on its own it is not lenited as in these vocables. You often see this in Gaelic songs such as 'eile' which means 'other' but doesn't really mean anything in vocables.
Icelandic , Swedish , Danish would be more likely languages elves used being that they are from the folklore of those countries......Faeries are associated with Ireland and Scotland , tír na nGael .
thank you so much - after 50 years I'm rediscovering my long-lost love for this kind of music ... and perhaps it will help me to reach the end of a long dark tunnel

🎶Can’t get enough Scottish Gaelic music!🎵 It’s bewitching & sends my mind off to wander thru Scotland. LOVE IT- ceòl àlainn!🏴
Just heavenly. Creates such a heartful space. I'm grateful there are musicians playing this and reminding us of something that lies at our core.
When these beauties sing, how can a common man not love them. Excuse me whilst I wipe away a tear !
Songs like this help me unwind.
Beautiful got goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes and I don't even know why🤗🥰

So what does it mean if not promise, is it just a filler word?
