Hey John what a hike it looked like a beautiful area the fall is such a great time to hike I love the sound of the leaves at my feet. Wow you had so much bad luck along this hike so sorry. I find it sad what has happened to many rivers and areas that should be fresh water sources. Man I don't know if I could hike at night but you really didn't have much of a choice it would have made me so nervous. Chicken dumpling's actually sounds good. Wow that was a very long day! Hey you smiled in this one at the end too! Sorry I missed this one so glad I went back and checked it out! It was exciting night hiking oh boy!

I really had a few challenges on this one, but it makes for a better story. I was definitely tired and wouldn’t have chosen to hike at night. It is a little uncomfortable at first, but I’ve gotten used to it. Thanks for your support!

@@wanderingoutyonder thanks Karen and Shannon. It’s a great resource for backpacking and I have been hitting it once or twice a year.

Bringing back the fall magic! Beautiful trails, seem like you had them all to yourself. Hiking blunders are always frustrating, especially when they cost you time and energy.

@rhodySeth I did have them to myself on Day 1, but that was a weekday. I had plenty of company on Day 2, which you'll see in the next video. I still have a heathy backlog of recording to work through. Patience is always good to have when you are making mistakes while hiking.

The AT is such an iconic trail to hike. Every year I hike some section of it, but it looks like I'm going to miss this year's hike. I've bike tours booked for each month but I'm going to get back to AT eventually. Thanks for sharing your hike. Happy trails!

It's always a challenge to get in both backpacking and cycling. I love them both. I'll be hiking some f the AT in New Hampshire in June.

I can't imagine how challenging it must be to try and hike at nighttime. Especially with those signs suggesting the re-routes. You seem to have a really good attitude about just rolling with it when things don't go perfect. Looking forward to seeing part 2.

I usually do more homework than I did for this trip. I agree though it was tough not meeting my objective, I’ll get back there again.

@@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA I've got a video coming up on Tuesday that was pretty much a total waste of time. Former logging property they turned into a hiking preserve but like the trails were just impassable due to flooding, so frustrating.

Logging can make a mess of things. Wwe have a lot of logging due to the Emerald Ash Bore Beatle killing the trees and then state cuts them down so they don't fall on anyone.

    Hi John.
Very much enjoyed this video, look forward to part 2!
As for mistakes, the cdocumentation/signs indicated water was available.
And, I suspect the bypasses might have been recent and temporary.
So, I give you an "A" for:
    1. Making it as far as you did
    2. Able to adapt to challenges
    3. Maintaining positive attitude
    4. Excellent filming and production (as always)
Question: Did I understand this was the last section of the AT in CT you hadn't done?

Ken, I'll follow up in a week with all the mistakes I made. The most obvious was not realizing there was no water at Silver HIll Campsite. There were two signs warning me and I just blew it. The bypass was just in case the water was flowing too much on the Guinea Brook. I could have researched that and it would not have been a surprise. In the warmer months I would have just walked through it.
I have a few miles left from Pine Swamp Hill to Sharon Mountain Campsite to complete before I can put Connecticut in the done column. I'll try to get it this year, maybe another overnight.
      Take Care
