I joined the Royal Navy in June 1983 and became good mates with a lad called Taffy Williams who was a martial arts enthusiast the man on this video is his absolute spit and double but obviously the age he'd be now . It's obviously not him but although I'm in my early 60s now I nearly died when I saw this video. Brilliant memories of my time in the navy and it made a man out of me no doubt. Happy Times with like minded young men set free on the world. If only I could go back for a few weeks once more.
Lovely thoughts Jimbo, Alan has the same thoughts, he is 83 now and has had two strokes and a pacemaker installed. "I get through the day ok," he said, "as long as I can go to bed by 8 o'clock i'll be fine,"
@@taff2walesmy dad was a GANGES boy he would have been 90 this year. I followed in his footsteps in Australia and joined the Royal Australian Navy as a 16 year old.
Joined in 78, did my 22 years. I got drafted to submarines after training. Didn't experience General Service. Now that there's social media I've been watching different videoas about Gens and what I missed. Would be glad to go back for a couple of weeks. I was based at Faslane, during my time there it was extended in the early 80's. Apparently a lot of the place has been regenerated again.
I flew out to the killisport 1964 to the FAR EAST fleet. 18 months and 3 days later we arrived in PORTSMOUTH HMNB to have it scrapped.. i was an L. E. M.
my partner's father BILL was in Merchant navy. we played this at his funeral in Liverpool last year. he must have sailed from liverpool to everywhere on earth..you couldn't catch him out with a location..'oh yeah been there' he told me a story that he was going up the Amazon river till it got really inland Brazil. a cargoe consisted of two expensive race horses being delivered to a millionaires stud farm up river. the trainer of horses had them on deck for a walk round exercise when the ship hit a rock and listed to which a horse worth millions fell overboard and was surrounded by pirhanna fish who reduced it to blood and carcus as the amazon turned red. tru story. sit in a pub in Liverpool and you hear these stories. God Bless Bill a sea fairer.
I love this song when I hear it I think of all of our brave sailors that lost they're lives in the wars for our country that we now live in peace we owe all of our armed forces a lot of respect and they shall never ever be forgotten they were Al brave heroes every one of them someone them gave the most precious sacrifice for us was they're own lives I respect everyone of you and MAY YOU ALL REST IN PEACE 😢
I heard Lolita's version playe on armed forces radiond sang in Gremany on my first Westpac cruise in 1967. When it was played, we would stop whatever we were doing and listen.
Questa canzone c'è la faceva ascoltare la nostra prof d'inglese tutta la classe riunita intorno alla cattedra circa sessanta anni fa ma il ricordo è vivido come fosse ora Che Dio la benedica per la passione che ci metteva

Sailor stop your roaming
Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you
In Capri or Amsterdam
Honolulu or Siam To the harbour of my heart
I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
Come home to me
Sailor stop your roaming
Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you
In Capri or Amsterdam
Honolulu or Siam To the harbour of my heart
I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
Come home to me
Sailor
