Reminds me of that other story where this dude was about to break up with his amazing gf because he was in college and wanted to chill more, but when he saw her walking to him (meeting him without knowing he was going to break things off) he just had a moment of reflection and a ‘wtf bro? You’re gonna throw a life away for 3 years of fun in college?’ And backtracked at the last second. The guy was happily married and with his family 15 years later. Sometimes you make stupid choices and you can’t fix what you broke. They don’t sound like bad people, hope they all end up in a life they love.
I been there, I said no too. He was dating other women while we together, and he dumping me to marry someone else come from nowhere, I said ok. Years later he reached out to me telling me I was the one got away. I told him to go back to his wife and kids and leave me alone. We all live by decisions me make.
Here’s the key to why she made the right decision: Ex husband didn’t act to change his mind only because he appreciated her in his life. He acted on his feelings because he resented the idea of someone else having her. Or maybe he resented himself for letting her go. Either way, once someone does that to a relationship the road back is almost never worth taking because there will be so many snags, vine covered forks and treachery that you are almost guaranteed to end up in a worse place. She made the right choice to stick with her newly, very carefully, charted course with the new guy.
Sweetie, in the future, try not to make the relationship you’re currently in as the reason you will not consider going back with the ex. What you’ve done is inadvertently shifted the reason the relationship doesn’t work from we can never be together to if this person doesn’t exist, we could be together. That’s a dangerous, dangerous place for your current boyfriend to exist . I’m not saying it would happen in this particular situation, but you don’t do it as everybody isn’t wrapped tight and you just never know . I wish you had been more definitive that there is no circumstance at which we would ever get back together because that makes it about the two of you and not a third-party . Anyway, I hope it works out for all three of you, but if you wanted to know why the conversation ended weird that’s why.
Is it just me or the way op talks about her new bf sometimes sounds weird ? Like saying your bf is the reason why you aren’t going back to your ex and the kiss part??? Sounds like she never was over her ex tbh..
I think she is way too much connected with him. People able to leave there partners easily when they completely cut down the contact but in this case it never happened at all so ya sure one part of her always loved him but this is not a bad thing unless you disrespect or try to hurt your current partner then it's wrong.

My advice is to introduce ex and BF to each other and see if building a bromance between them would help things. Who knows, maybe the BF has a sister or female friend who's not having much luck romantically and might want to try things with the ex.
Personally I don't think they'd be a very good idea. He (the bf) was cool with her talking to him but not really to be friends with, on top of that it wouldn't be good to have him close to her like that woth how much he's struggling with his emotions and how he's regretting divorcing her. That would most likely complicate things even more so
the fact that he is getting hopeful that "well if I'm single then maybe" No... no no no no no. Why allow the bf and ex establish trust and give the ex a chance to abuse it. There are literally trillions of other people bf can befriends just avoid the handful that could ruin the relationship.
My original post was to introduce the ex to the boyfriend so the BF could help the ex move on from OP. That's why I was suggesting setting him up with any single and willing sisters the BF might have, or the BF's ex, if they split on somewhat amicable terms like an irreconcilable disagreement over having kids.
Maybe I have the unpopular opinion on things the smart decision isn’t always the right one I know the ex hurt op and she begged him to stay but if she took him back I honestly wouldn’t be a bad thing sometimes it takes time away from someone to truly appreciate them
