    The constant rain can be depressing but you have to dress for it and just get out there , I lived in Canada where you can have 5 months of freezing temps and lots of snow to shovel every morning just to get out of your driveway , no matter where you are there is adapting involved , budget for at least two weeks in the sun , holidays in Greece or Portugal aren’t expensive and can recharge the batteries, join a gym with a swimming pool for the winter months , it makes life bearable and be glad you don’t live too far north like Donegal where it not only rains all year but the summers are Baltic 🥶🥶☃️

    I remember the earthquake in Ireland in 1984. It lasted for about two or three seconds, if even that. It felt like a big truck driving past the front of the house, in Dublin. I think a couple of rooftops in Donegal lost a few roof tiles. And that was it.
    You’re right about public transportation. But there isn’t a big enough population across Ireland to make public transportation a viable economic option. It would lose/waste a lot of public money that is being put to better uses right now.

      There are actually 2 tax bands, 20% and 40%, you pay 20% on part of your income up the a certain threshold and 40% on the remaining. You also have tax credits so you're not taxed on your entire income. There is also PRSI (social insurance) and a universal tax that was introduced during the economic collapse. We were told that would be temporary but they just reduce it in budgets rather than get rid of it.

    Ever heard of population density in relation to transport provision. If you are living in a highly rural area anywhere in the world then public transport will be non existent. 113m people in the Phillipines, 5m in Ireland. Also, shops don't close early as you say in Dublin, however, virtually none are 24 hr as the employees would be paid more and therefore not viable. Labour is cheaper in the Phillipines so shops can stay open longer due to lower overheads.

    • @JenniferEstella
      @JenniferEstella  Рік тому

      I won’t agree on ‘anywhere in the world’. We have public transport in the Philippines even in highly rural areas - not fancy taxis or big buses but smaller transport types like tricycles (like tuktuk in Thailand) / motorbikes / sidecar.
      Also, it’s not only the population density that determines availability of public transport. FYI, I also lived in Selangor, Malaysia with ~20% of the population, public transport is also quite difficult.
      Shops here close earlier compared to the Philippines. You are correct that labour is cheaper in the Philippines, the main reason there are shops that are open 24/7 is that Manila never sleeps. There are a lot of businesses, specifically customer support, that are open 24/7. So there’s business for these shops/restaurants even in wee hours. Obviously not the case for Ireland.

    Government have been cutting back on public transport in rural areas over the past few decades. They are only spending on cities with more public-private partnerships like the Luas (light rail) in Dublin. Private buses are taken up alot of the withdrawal, but getting licenses for regular routes is expensive. If they get a license they need to have regular and frequent times, rather than adapt to the need of the people. So cost ineffective times are losing money. A car is a must for Ireland if you live outside the cities.

    • @JenniferEstella
      @JenniferEstella  2 роки тому

      Thanks a lot for your answer! I'm definitely hoping for better public transpo because Ireland is such a beautiful country. What a pity for those who don't have a car yet. I agree, getting a car is a must!

    Living in Ireland since the last 15 years and still can't get used to the weather but so so many other positive points. Also, benefits versus tax si not good at all. Health system is very greedy. Housing crisis is a disaster. Really I still love living here but the cost of life is well higher than when I arrived and the wages have not increased so much and decisions are taken by Dubliners for Dublin growth not the entire country.
