commentators for weightlifting is very hit or miss for me. these two in particular id say are 90% great commentators, but every now and then they shoot a comment about an athletes athleticism or their ability to recover in a way that’s almost belittling these world class athletes. super annoying. but like i said most of the time great comments. maybe it’s just me 🤷🏻♂️
I find them both annoying, Michaela especially. All comments are just forced and saying something just to say something. Not to mention the patronising part. I like the two american commentators, they're allright
With a few people choosing to share negative comments regarding Michaela Breeze, I thought I take time to support her. I say this as a veteran media broadcaster of 35 years and a coach-trained weightlifter. Just in case Michaela’s history isn’t known she is a retired medal-winning weightlifter and current successful coach. Because of her accomplishments in this field, she’ asked to join the broadcast. Her comments are rooted in hard earned experience not from a notion a viewer might have while sitting on the sofa. I don’t recognize the names of commenters as being her equal. Thanks Michaela. Cheers to weightlifting fans everywhere.
@ word is that they got copyrighted and taken down entirely, unfortunately. More info on the weightlifting reddit but mostly just guesses. It’s said that is the damn music that got them, instead of the actual weightlifting content ffs 🤦♂️
Why does the British commentators put emphasis on Anton being originally from Ukraine? He competes with Georgia, which like Ukraine and Russia are all part of the ex-Soviet Union. Does the same commentator comment equally about English athletes or footballers? Originally from Africa ... etc?
He moved to Georgia as a grown man to progress in the sport and work with the Georgian team. Asanidze is speaking Russian to him, not Georgian, as he normally does to Lasha and the others.
Back in the good old days when you didn't even kneed to cycle off for comps lol. No disrespect to Rigert, I accept drug use in the sport, I look gear as necessary-equipment for lifters, no different than the bar, shoes or thumb tape.
When it's the clean and jerk they may show the weight made in the snatch somewhere, would be more usefull than showing their bodyweight who doesn't matter anymore

So sorry for the german lifter...for the matter of his age (37 i think..) the retirement might be near...😞😞
I’ve never watched olympic lifting before. I don’t understand why you get disqualified if your elbows move at all but your knees can move in and out, you can bounce out of your squat, and you can dance all around under the bar while you get it steady. Can someone tell me?
All the lower body movement is just part of standing up with a lot of weight overhead, so it is allowed/not regulated against. Modern weightlifting one of the lifts is called ”clean and jerk” where the lifter “cleans” the weight to the shoulders, followed by jerking the weight up is imparting momentum to the bar by bending slightly at the knees and then moving the body under the bar. But when the rules were made there was also a lift called the “clean and press”. Instead of jerking the weight using momentum, the lifter pressed it overhead mainly with their shoulder/upper chest muscles. It was very hard to judge consistently so it was scrapped in the 70’s. But the rule book had been written and in the rules it aimed to separate the press from the jerk, the rule to do this was that the lifter must have straight arms after they move under the bar after jerking it, and if arms were bent then the athlete would have performed a “clean and jerk And press” so the lift would not count as a strict “clean and jerk”. Many people favour abolishing the rule, it’s not very popular. I’m also new to weightlifting so I might be a little bit inaccurate but it’s mostly correct
And I think the bouncing is limited, I don’t think you can go above parallel and then back down multiple times. Similar with the dancing under the bar, as you say, the lifter must stand still in order for the lift to count, and is allowed to make adjustments to steady themselves, but I have seen a lift been voted no good by judges for too much walking about. It’s a very technical sport, you will enjoy learning more about it
Dear Andreas If Jurgen would like to compete in the European Masters Weightlifting competitions, he would do well and I am sure at M40 age group (40 to 44 years old) he could beat the 96 kg bodyweight records of 138 kg Snatch and 171 kg Clean and Jerk easily. An excellent Lifter! Vielen Dank David (U.K.)
Probably not. All athletes are near their max level so it would be silly to waste an attempt, and perhaps actually fail again the next attempt. If you’re much stronger than the competition (like Lasha it Shi Zhi Yong), you technically could, but if you’re that good you’re going for records, not messing around
Michaela needs to stand behind and promote her sport or get out of that sport. It’s not classy when an announcer for Eurosport is kicking at the athletes- how is this helping to keep this an Olympic sport? How about embrace the sport?
Because being a woman has no influence on one’s ability to commentate? She’s not a terrible commentator because of her sex. She’s terrible because she accuses athletes of doping most of the way through the show, repeatedly goes on about the swing of the bar on every snatch and then repeatedly goes on about the position of the hips in the jerk. They are valid comments, but not on every lift and they don’t take in to account that there’s more than one technical model in weight lifting that can be successful
Tbh both of the commentators are very annoying and constantly ruining the show with stupid comments. Like for example 24:30 what the fuck does it matter how long he takes to focus if he makes the lift? "LiKe sEriOusLy hoW loNg dO hiS sEssIonS taKe????" Jeeezzz I know i'm not alone on this too...
I have never liked Breeze's commentating and the male commentator is no better. In my opinion some of the worst commentating for worlds in a while, not that its ever really that good
Hmm, debatable, he was probably around 100+ when he improved his lifts recently, making him drop weight would certainly affect his max efforts, he might have won indeed, but not that easily.
Thanks for the ENG recording, Frank. Where can I sign a petition to stop Michaela from commentating?
100% support this.
I would sign a petition to silence her for good.
God I abhor every word that pours from her mouth
She’s waaaaaay too biased of a commentator. Must be replaced

Been waiting all day for the upload, can’t believe there’s no streams anywhere!

Does anybody knows what happened with weightlifting archives???

Why did you cut out the German's 3rd attempt at snatching?!!!
Thanks for the upload!
I can remember David Rigert in 1976 at 90kg, doing 180 snatch ,and 220k jerk, 400kg total! Which was incredible at that time.
Back in the good old days when you didn't even kneed to cycle off for comps lol. No disrespect to Rigert, I accept drug use in the sport, I look gear as necessary-equipment for lifters, no different than the bar, shoes or thumb tape.
I appreciate you uploading this! Do you have any version without the commentary? The commentating is so bad that it is actually difficult to watch.
Looking for petition to ban Michaela from commentating. I love Anton Pliesnoi's snatch. It is so beautiful.

@@Patrick-gs7mz possibly yes...to be in a tournament like this with younger lifters it is terribly strenuous for the body..we wish him all the best...

Is it a tactic of coaches to have the lifter purposely miss a lift to bait other lifters in not taking higher weights?
Probably not. All athletes are near their max level so it would be silly to waste an attempt, and perhaps actually fail again the next attempt.
