    That clothing store scene is very realistic. Especially when that pink dress part seemingly halts the bickering as if nothing happened.

    2:45 the way they're literally losing it on each other and then the second something else happens (the pink dress) it literally doesn't matter anymore made me burst into tears. this happens to me so much w my mother. you think that it doesn't matter because you put the arguments off but they build up for years and years and i know one day i'll snap because of it.

      Happens to me with my sister. It's frustrating because I feel like even tho everything is suddenly "all right" between us, we're not solving anything at all, just covering the problems.

    "My mom was an abusive alcoholic". The way she delivered that line broke my heart and made me completely understand her character. Lady Bird's mother is been throught a lot, you can tell. She just want for her daughter the life her mother never gave to her.

      PalmurcioWorld It’s funny how everyone takes that comment differently. I take it as a scapegoat the mother uses for being a not great mother. Just because her mom was really bad, doesn’t mean that by her not being an alcoholic she is a perfect mother.

    So many lines in this film sounded eerily similar to that of me & my father. The “why do i always have to be the bad guy? While your mom gets to be your best friend.” And that line where her mother says “my mother was an abusive alcoholic”. And while my dad & i did have a few scuffles-ish he was a good man that did his best. Unfortunately we cant say the same for his father/ my grandfather. His father did care a lot as well but was very abusive to my dad mentally & physically. My dad often described his upbringing as a combination of the wild west & the Marines. By th time he was graduating his school they had been in 4 or 5 brawls & thats not including the 2 or 3 times he cold cocked my dad as a child for misbehaving - one time leaving him concussed.... Im very grateful my dad did his best to find a healthy balance of the good parts of his dad & leaving the bad parts behind as best he could.

      Yes they keep pushing each other’s buttons knowing very well they will make the other person angry. This film is very relatable to me and the relationship with my father too, and he himself had a distant relationship with his dad who could at times be abusive. The movie applies to the dynamic between parents and kids, regardless the gender.

    Their relationship reminds me of my nana’s and mine. After my mom passed she took me in so I’m grateful, although we argue a lot there’s a lot of love there. Maybe not exactly like them but I love it.

    I’d actually like to see a scene or film where a mother and son argue 24/7 for a change instead of having him be a prissy mummy’s boy who can do nought wrong. Yes we get it mothers and daughters argue but so do mothers and sons. And why does it always have to be a narcissist mother?

    This is why I had a hard time enjoying this film. The relationship between Lady Bird and her mother was so toxic and unhealthy that it became unpleasant to watch. 70% of the movie is just them arguing and arguing repeatedly. I literally thought they were both gonna strangle each other

    I can understand why the mom was upset with Lady Bird for applying to New York. It is really selfish to go to school out of state considering her mom told her they can barely afford in-state tuition. So to make her parents have to go through that is selfish.

    Children of abusive people should not have kids. This movie was not good and the mom literally wouldn't talk to her for MONTHS. That'll be great for when she grows up and find situations too stressful to deal with.

      I don’t think it makes the movie bad, I think the fact it got you thinking makes it good. The story may be dissatisfying but the relationship says a lot about society. I can personally relate to it, and my mom swears she had a wonderful relationship with her mom. Doesn’t make her any less psychotic. I wish certain people with mental problems would consider not raising children, yes, but that’s life!

    I was waiting for her mom to soften up when Lady Bird started to be dramatic about wishing her mother not to be angry, then her Mom answered "my mom was an abusive alcoholic" and i was like,, daaaamn you're lucky Lady Bird. Some people have it worse. Grow up! haha

    • @cati896
      @cati896 2 роки тому +47

      Just because people have had it worse doesn't invalidate someone else's feelings. Jesus, that's like telling people in Flint Michigan, "people in war torn countries don't have access to food or water, grow up at least you have food."
