  • Today I bring you a very useful video so you can go grocery shopping with more confidence. I teach not only basic supermarket vocabulary but also associated words used to describe the type of packaging or how the product is bought. This vocabulary is commonly used by natives and rarely shows up in the Portuguese learning books.
    Below is the link to our video that talks about the benefits of learning through writing lists.

    I just found your channel with the recommendation from "THE LANGUAGE UNSCHOOL" YT channel, I really love your systematic structured teaching style! Your pacing is nice and easy for beginners... I also love your pillow style in the background and wondering if you can share what brand or where to find one like or similar to it. Thanks for teaching!!! Subscribed!

    I love how this video has details behind how things are done in Portugal. Also, I love how you teach - giving names of the names in Portuguese first then saying the word in English. It helps to remember!!! You're the best. Keep goinggggg!!!
    Could you possibly do a video where you read a poem, or a short news article where you speak Portuguese slowly and maybe explain connected speech?
    ❤️❤️

    For fresh cherry tomatoes on a stem, would it be “um cacho de tomato-cereja “ dois cachos. . .

    • @learneuropeanportuguese
      @learneuropeanportuguese  Рік тому

      Excelente comentário! Também se pode usar com tomates, mas é menos comum. De qualquer forma é comum ver no supermercado a designação "tomate em cacho"

    I have encountered a specific problem with 'saco:"
    When I go to the store, the cashier often asks if I need a saco, but they say it so quickly, I'm not exactly sure what they are saying. I know what they mean, of course. But I'm also not sure how to answer.
    How do I say, "I don't need a bag," or "I brought my own bag?" Or what is the correct, typical Portuguese response?
    Thank You!!

    • @learneuropeanportuguese
      @learneuropeanportuguese  Рік тому +3

      Olá, Rico! Most of the times they ask: "Quer saco?", "Precisa de saco?" or "vai precisar de saco?" You can respond with "Não, obrigado" and add "Eu tenho" ," Eu trouxe saco" or even "Tenho aqui". Hope this helps!

    • @lachan3519
      @lachan3519 Рік тому +1

      I'm visiting Portugal now and have exactly the same problem. When the cashier speaks, I just manage to catch the word "saco". I've tried "Não, obrigada" and ""Não preciso, obrigada" but they don't seem to understand me. Maybe my pronunciation is off. Only holding up the reusable bag I've brought with me gets the message across. I've had similar problems saying "no" to the bread and olives that appear automatically (with a charge) in some restaurants. Basically, I just can't say "no" to anything in Portugal!

    Just one remark, we don't usually say 'package', but 'packet' for store merchandise. A package is something the postman would deliver to you that's not a letter.

      I think it depends on where you're from. Where I grew up in the US, most people use "package" (or simply "bag") for store merchandise and "packet" is kind of uncommon. Let's hope it's more consistent in Portuguese!

    • @eaglenoimoto

    ninguem escreve "piza", escrevemos Pizza em Portugal. Piza parece-me um aportuguesamento forçado que ninguem usa, tipo "uisque".

    • @learneuropeanportuguese

      Tens razão, a maioria dos sítios usa a palavra italiana, mas agora nos dicionários já há a versão portuguesa apenas com um z.

    • @skurinski
      @skurinski Рік тому

      @@learneuropeanportuguese sim, mas acho que mais vale ensinar a versão que as pessoas usam, e não versões portuguesas que não são aplicadas no país pelos nativos. Ninguém vai começar a escrever "estoque" em vez de "stock" só porque vem no dicionário, ou "quivi" em vez de "kiwi".
