Oh this is fantastic!!! I will be watching this over and over again!!! I want to make dog bowls to help out dog rescues and these will go over well I believe!!! Thank you!!!
Excellent thank you. I used to do the same thig, downloading pictures to resize and cut out as you say one has be be gentle using this method but wow is it worth it. The sky is the limit as to it's uses too. Very inspirational.
I ran my studio with 5 employees for 9 years doing this style of work, it became boring and stagnant. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we quit doing it. Now it is just one element of a lives work which I make rarely.
Patience is a virtue - something I have in my head constantly! Thanks for the tutorial, love the dogs! Fun to see a visitor and fellow potter stopping by.
Perfect timing for me to see this video... I tried your stencil method yesterday on a small shallow bowl with fish stencils I cut out. I DIDN'T let the slip dry long enough and messed up my design. Next time I'll practice waiting! 😊. Thank you for another great lesson!!!
Vaughan, I just found your channel and wow. I love your content. Im currently in my second round of taking a ceramics class. I teach for a living and I have to say you do such a great job!
Dear Vaughn you are my best teacher and favorite artist! I think Jaqueline’s art is so beautiful too. Thank you both! May I ask is it possible to do your stencil technique using just underglazes? I don’t have slip…or could I make slip with my own clay colored with underglaze? Thank you 🙏🏼
dear Vaughan, I absolutely love all your work, but one of my favorite types are the stencil/slip ones. I cannot for the life of me understand how you cut your stencils though. I mean, maybe a house and a roof will be doable, but cows, dogs, cats... How do you do that? Do you draw them freehand and then cut? I have been watching your videos for a while but since I haven't seen them all yet, I don't know if you've ever shown how you cut the intricate designs you do. If you haven't, would you consider making a video of how you cut them? I would really love to see that :)
My husband and were just in Nova Scotia but got chased out by Fiona! I would have loved visiting you at your studio. I'm a potterer but new to using slips. I don't understand why one chooses a black slip verses a black underglaze.
Thanks for the video! Wonderful work. One question I had, if you have a moment. How do you manage all the trimmings flying all over the place when you use the Griffin Grip?
ua-cam.com/video/LrFK_VdixPo/v-deo.html This is a video on plates too. There is a link at the end of this dog plate video to a complete how to make plates video, fast forward to the credits to see it.
Busy learning how to throw a plate so this will come in handy. Two questions if I may: did you remove the plate from the bat at any stage before finishing the decoration (to prevent cracking)? and what is the thickness of the plate after having opened up? Many thanks
@@Vsmithpots Thank you. After a week of trying and checking out you-tubes I found yours simple and straightforward and threw my first ‘almost’ (on trimming the rim slumped somewhat) decent plate. Please remember to post the link to the plate tutorial you mentioned.
Finally some dog stencils for us that love canines!!! 😊💜🐕🐩🦮🐕🦺 I’m really looking forward to seeing these come out of the kiln. I found this video really interesting - you’ve really perfected your process. I find such a sense of calm & peace while watching each of your videos. Thank you again for taking the time to share your skills. Starting my senior year tomorrow (2nd career) - I’ll have a BFA in ceramics when I’m finished. 😊
Прекрасные работы!!!!
У Вас волшебные руки!
Восхищаюсь видео!!!!!
Спасибо, хороших выходных.

You are welcome, make the bowls heavy for dogs, they push them across the floor.
Thanx Vaughan, you are a great artist. 😄👌
Please show us when they are fired.. these are amazing Vaughn!
I hope to next week.

Timing is everything in pottery. That is the title of the coming video.
You make it look so easy. Practice Practice Practice

Thanks, good luck on your potting challenges.
Such beautiful work!
Thanks
I literally just found your channel and love it. Your work is fantastic. I was wondering if you have a video showing how to make your deep dish plate?
I did one way back last year. ua-cam.com/video/aJ0iltwUyeE/v-deo.html

Thanks, you can use underglaze instead of slip, it is just more expensive. use stains to colour slip.

Hi Karin
I cut in many ways, scissors, Exacto knife and a scroll saw for simple shapes. It all depends on the shape.
My husband and were just in Nova Scotia but got chased out by Fiona! I would have loved visiting you at your studio. I'm a potterer but new to using slips. I don't understand why one chooses a black slip verses a black underglaze.
Less expensive to use. See you on the next visit. Thanks.
Hi Vaughan can i do the same whit only underglaze thank you for this amazing video.
Under glaze is a little translucent so you will need several coats.
merci pour cette vidéo ?
comment fabriquez vous vous chiens en papier journal ? merci

I have a wall around the wheel and a rubber shield that keeps most of them in. I bought a mud tools shield for the wheel as well.

I cut through after finishing the layering and before leaving them over night. My guess is the bottom is 1/2cm.

Can't wait to see these finished. I would really like to see them done as border collies.
@@Vsmithpots Thank you !!
How much is a dog plate? I have a friend that has a doodle that would love one of those.
Is there an after firing picture of this plate?
