I called the installer of my solar system and after a quick troubleshooting over the phone, which basically was turning the switch toggle between on1, on2 and off, he told me most likely I needed to replace the actuator or control. The fee for actuator replacement was $340 plus a travel fee of $3/mile. I removed the cover and noticed one switch terminal was slightly bent. After straightening out the terminal, presto the actuator started working. Warm water started entering the pool. You saved me well over $400 today. If the switches fail one day, at least now I know how to replace them.. Thanks so much for your video boss!!

Watched the video, got the switches from Uncle Jeff Bezos ( 4 for $14.99), took about 15 minutes to change out the switches and I was in business. Saved about $400 from the estimate to replace the entire assembly. God, I love UA-cam how-to videos! Many thanks!

I don't normally comment on videos - but this has fixed my parents pool solar heating. The actuator was not turning...turns out the switch was not connected properly. Didn't even have to replace - thanks to your video I managed to fix it all. Saved me hundreds of dollars for replacement part and install for parts plus install (and call out fee)!
    Thank you sooooo much!

I could not believe this would work. So before ordering switches I opened up the valve actuator to check it out and fiddled around with the connections to the switches and, presto, the one that had failed started working again. So the spade connector was kind of loose and tightening with pointy pliers did the job. Fast forward to yesterday, they the switch failed again, found this video for a refresher, got myself a couple of switches mailed order (next day, $7.00/pair on amazon, ready to use, specific for this), installed in 2 min, and valve is working again. This is an amazing "little secret". THANKS!

This post just saved me $200. In my case, the limit switch was not the problem, rather the post that secures the handle was binding against the housing. By taking the handle and the housing off as noted in this video, I was able to clean and lubricate the post and now everything works. Thank you!

My pool guy (who we really like and trust) was going to charge we $275 (labor included) to replace this valve. I watched the video twice, ordered the parts and after a quick 5 minutes of work I replaced both micro switches and my valve is working again! Note to viewers - the switch might not be the whole problem. I have replaced my switches a few times over the years - I just replace them all every few years. What I have noticed is that the spade connector can be kind of loose and loses its connection. I just replaced 6 today and after replacement tested all of them and they are working fine. A new switch with a faulty connection will fail again, so I used some tiny needle nose pliers to crimp the female end of the spade connector to make a tight fit electrically. I am confident this will extend the length of time between switch replacements.

    • @williamfloyd3205

I first thought my issue was with the programing but found out one of the automated valves wasn't working (rule 1, check mechanicals first). Great Video!!!! I was about to order actuator from Amszon then stumbled across this video. Found one of the limit switches problematic. I went one step ahead and fixed the limit switch myself. It is a delicate part. Resistance across normally closed leads were high, in the order of few Kilo Ohms. I took the contacts out and sanded and put them back, then the resistance became close to zero. And valve started working. Anyway I will get new limit switches and keep them in backup.

Thanks, this fixed my problem! Replaced both switches. One quick question. Does it matter how you connect the wires to the posts? I tried to keep top to bottom positions clear, but started changing them to try to get the handle to stop where I wanted, since after reattaching the handle, the valve was opening and closing 90 degrees off from before. Figured I might have reattached the handle in the wrong position, and was finally able to adjust the handle to match the waterflow. Seems to work despite the cross wiring possibility.

@@thehookupextras thank you. I just noticed I have the Jandy actuator and the switch arm is different. Thank you for the video, huge help and I just ordered a package of switches that look to be the right dimensions and arm structure.

Thank you again. I ordered this part for a 10pk for my Jandy valve. Replaced both and working perfectly! Thanks

Thanks for sharing this video and appreciate all the additional feedback from others. I'm having trouble finding these microswitches online. Any suggestions? Tried Amazon and they don't have the two prong for the part# SS-5-2T. Other inform on microswitch shows 5A125VAC. Can these be purchased at local pool stores or only online. Any help would be appreciated! -

5A125VAC is fine, these are 24VDC systems running on very low current, so it does not exceed the ratings for those switches.

Thanks, the link that you provided is for a Micro Switch with 3 Pins. My switch now only has two prongs. Does it matter if I don't use all three? Really appreciate the help!

@@richbeitter9158 One of the pins will be "normally open", the other will be "normally closed". The 3 pin will work, just put the wires in the same position that they were on the old one.

It appears that my actuator is working properly (turning the right direction when trying to drain spa to clean it). Took off lid as you showed, and touching one connector to the other made it move. How can I tell if this is why my spa won't drain when the panel is set to drain?

will these work in a Jandy Valve?

I've never taken apart a Jandy valve, but I would bet they work the same way.

I'm wondering the same thing. Did this work on your Jandy valve?
