    The way I see it, pure "art" exists for its own sake alone, pure "design" exista for the sake of something or someone else alone. Somewhere in the middle of that spectrum is the vast majority of creative expressions. Depending on how in/accessible, useful/less, im/practical etc. the creation is, simply determines how much it exists solely for its own sake vs how much it exists for a secondary or tertiary purpose.

    clear difference in ART and FART

  • @brendatomines8171
    @brendatomines8171 2 місяці тому +106315

    contemporary artists say everything can be art, but when everything is art, then nothing is art.
    Obs: wow I didn't expect to get this much attention in a comment, it's really cool to see the debate and the philosophical side of it, But people are missing my point, I made an analogy, I'm gonna give you another example, Superman is only super in here because in his world everyone has the same ability as him, when everyone is special the word special has no meaning, because being special is the normal.
    And about everyone saying art is subjective and everything is subjective, taste in art is subjective, but art shouldn't be, there are many ways to do art, paint, music, act, writing... but art is something that should have a purpose and meaning, this contemporary artists of the video makes art looks like a joke, I understand you doing a performance a message like Abramovic or Yann Marussich for example, but a pile of falling buckets? Or whip butter with metal chain? Really does this looks like art to you? If everything is really art so If I poop on a piece o paper and tell you is art, does this makes my poop became art, or pretentious art?!?

    • @peedfarded
      @peedfarded Місяць тому +100

      @@katie1921But the same could be said in the other direction as well. The performer in plastic wrap has one message attached to it’s meaning and I personally wouldn’t feel the need to contemplate it for too long. However, when it comes to craftsmanship that took years to cultivate and the techniques for carving to achieve a certain effect for each different sculpture, that’s something I tend to think about when I see a piece. The same with paintings, drawings, etc. I can commend the performers for outside of the box thinking, to varying degrees of success.
      But I just don’t find these demonstrations comparative to visual art, especially Roman Signer toppling sand buckets as a metaphor for social class hierarchy in society while he charges 72,000 a ticket. It’s like a demonstration a teacher would give in school except he stamps the title artist next to his name.

      "Watch me stack 10 buckets, let them fall, boom that's art" that is the problem ! there is no meaning to this, no reasoning behind it, no skill, only"play pretend i'm an artist" and actual artists who honed their skills all their life and take art seriously are supposed to say "whoa incredible i admire you !" ? you don't even understand how stupid this is. this is nihilism.

      And then someone loads their life's work into an ai and their skill can be replicated by a machine. Art has never been about skill, it has always been about creativity and emotion. Take a look at some of picasso's famous work and you'll see that a decent portion of it is not "skillful". It's interesting though because of the fact that he was skilled and chose to paint like that.

      none of the artists listed here were involved in something entirely accidental. the art is the conception, that's where god is, in CONCEPTION. something outta nothing. you conceive of things that no one else does. do you take action and invest in studio/ gallery space, rehearse, perfect, buy more materials, etc. ??? do you just risk nothing at all? some people seek to imitate the past , others to conceive the future. personally, staying here and now is the coolest and therin is the EXPERIENTIAL. here for the ride, not for the crap... nor the needless sneering and condescension by mr. important sculptor.

      @@kathleen9774 I have been in art school. I know that "modern art" is something around the 20' and is based on stuffs like Art Deco and abstraction. Don't do your dickhead just because you can't accept that someone see stupid pseudo-artists like in the video as fools with no talents. I don't care that Joseph Beuys has used grease in an "installation" and that a 18yo LGBT+ punkette try to mimic him. I don't like abstract art nor anything descending from it. Contemporaray art is shit like collectioning saucepans and holding them on the ceiling (seen at Paris) or putting wool on a chair. Or spitting colors on a surface, of painting a white square on a white background.
      Those concepts fucking with concepts in a loop are funny when seen for the first time, but quickly, it becomes boring and even a poison. I know more about art that you'll ever do with your incapability to accept that you like shit.

      Well, actually should be the opposite and that's because the art you can see and also other types of contemporary art (like the conceptual one) are made to make you stop and say "ok, what am I watching?" but not in a negative way, trying to make you analyze the opera and make you create your meaning and your sense. If you'll be curious you could always search to understand the meaning of the author, but sometimes this isn't what the artist wants because he wants that, with your mental set, you try to find a sense of what you're seeing.

I am not a huge fan of performance art but. it is its own field with its own merits and at the end of the day, to each their own. as far as visual art goes, I personally do not like Pollock or Duchamp's works one bit but a lot of people do so. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. btw fantastic sculpting!
