Brilliant. I think it’s time for terrapin
By far my favorite guitar instructor makes every lesson funny and laid back makes learning these song way more fun keep it up🙏🙏
Tbh u gotta be my age and ur the funniest guy on here doing lessons, wish I lived by u so I can share my ideas. Been playing for 8 years now and studied at Berklee since I got disabled from the military. This stuff is the real deal! Dead,Floyd,Allman brothers,Buchanan, stones, some country and blues and some other great lost r&r songs here and there. Heavy jams if we ever get to jam I can tell you that much.
Love the JRAD idea but all music not stuck in a box, well all the good shit and a lot more jamming and weird shit to people but the inter-midst of song to song and jam to jam to see where it can be taken.
Cool guy here, for all players but if u know how to solo over this stuff he’s the one for you !
Thanks for the clear explanations and everything. And the solo at the end was great. I am glad I found this, you have a new subscriber
Welcome to the family!
Yes I need more Dark stars in my life been listen to both Greyfolded so much lately
Get it, boy!
Stellar album. 👊🏼
Hey Davvy man! Just wanted to say I really dig what you're doing and its kind of inspired me to possibly develop an online presence for fun. It's been a blast learning some of these songs, and it's really helping me progress in my guitar playing. Also, I requested Fire on the Mountain the other night, and although it was a super cliche to request your guys really ran with it and the improvisation was spectacular. Keep it up!
Great vid man! Candyman tutorial next??? I love Jerry’s MXR Phase 100 use in his underwater solo from 2/24/74 it’d be awesome to learn. Keep up the great content!
Greetings from Soddy Daisy,TN. Love the lesson.
Hey Davvy,
hope you are well
awesome tone brother.
this video marks an epoch in the "play dead" series. hands down, the best series on youtube.
take care
ROHAN!!!!
Thanks for this! We love you Davvy!
Thanks for sharing & all your hard work Davvy. It’s definitely made me a better player. Sick solo.🔥
Thanks, mike!
Great. I got yesterday electric guitar and this man rocks! love this song
Peace Davvy
Bru wtf I found UA-cam gold, your my ideal UA-cam ngl.
Hell yes!! Dark star for the win. That made my day, thank you.
I recently had an MRI after a seizure, they gave me headphones and let me choose an artist, of course I chose the Dead and they gave me a killer Dark Star.
Super fun, thanks.
3:03 hit the nail on the head. I swear Hunter made these lyrics as a trick so people would speculate for decades... or he didn't even remember
Robert hunter has said he tried to keep lyrics to his songs very open ended so that it is up to the listener to interpret what the song is about
@@herbythechef7624 I think he was simply having fun with words. He was a poet before becoming a great lyric maker.
You the man davvy!
you are a delight keep on truckin dude
So helpful, Gonna learn Eyes of the world through you next
Love this!
F'g genius, brother!! Great lesson!!
Gracias senor....i should've learned that a long time ago
Dark Star! 💫 Excellent!
Yeah!
Hell yeah thank you! 👍
Davvy we need Dear Mr. Fantasy/Hey Jude!!!
Hell yes!
I ain't learnin shit. Just listening and loving you Davvy
first electric guitar this is so fun
killer solo at the end 😫
Hi Davvy love you man
wow what a voice
Awesome man thanks hope your growing your channel you are my favorite to learn from 💥
Edit btw
I with some tears was trying to learn this the evening Jerry died I got close and I had my moms old bass no four track but in my hick town in northeast Kansas no way I could find anyone to play Dead with me the great thing is I’m 46 and havnt changed for a fucking soul still the same my dad had all the Dead on 8 tracks n the attic so I was out on current music in mid 80s cause I found that box as a kid thanks again for the joy you have given me you make this fun and still say you’re coolest yt guitar instructor your loose attitude does it for me and the occasional f bombs keeps things loose thanks brother 💯
Thanks for being here and giving it your all! I’ll do my best to keep up my end!
@@TobyDavvy 💥💫🔥
hello, there. one-here just subscribed to one's channel and so far the content appears to be a one-derful blend of humor along with fantastic substance. sure, come here to relax yet also definitely be prepared to learn. one just wanted to say thank one so much for creating such quality content. one has been playing music for some time now and the chord changes over the "tear this old building down" part of samson and delilah are totally baffling to one. any insight into this would be hugely appreciated. the rest of the song sounds pretty straightforward with just different combinations of I, IV, V so that seems pretty obvious but with some nice bobby voicings. when it gets to "tear this old building down" it sounds like it takes a jazzy left turn for that turnaround, pun intended. it sounds like a G chord is being played on the word "down". it 's just those four chords leading to it that are just bewildering. again, if available and within the scope of one's volition that one might provide some perspective on this it would be seriously awesome. thank one again so much and have a blessed one! sincerely, one-here.
Kudos' for putting the Dark Star tutorial together. A few things worth noting. You mentioned "Loosie Goosie"a few times and I believe you are referring to Loose Lucy - lol. Kidding aside - regardless of the all the times the dead played it, they kept the same framework with the chords. Instead of your lesson teaching A and G chords, they included a D passing chord with an A over it. D/A. Also, according to the official written sheet music "While we can" is with the G and Em chords. Finally, another nuance is inserting a D#dim/A chord into the mix. I'll let you hunt for it. Shall we go, you and I while we can? well.. not exactly but perhaps what you put together here is fun for all, even if you missed the D passing.
I appreciate the constructive criticism!
I have used your videos to learn the intros and nothing more to like 6 Dead songs, but this is the one I’m gonna stick with
Davvy I really enjoy your tutorials. Can you do "I've Been All Around This World". I'm not going to be around much longer and I've always wanted to learn that one.
so good man. when ya start melting faces at about the 18min mark. what are ya playing around in over the A-G? Amajor? E mixo? combination of some things? i can jam with ya by ear but trying to land where the notes are i'm jamming though. thx bud
thoroughly enjoyed this one. thank you for delivering the goodness!
Thanks Matt!
thursday banger? lets fuckin go my guy!!
You know it!
Davy you are great dude! Can you teach us sugar magnolia soon??? Thanks brother
Sugar mags is hard to master. One of my favorites. My favorite version is the oakland 87 2nd set closer rocks the house and between it and sunshine daydream its well over 10 mins.
@@yourbrother5304 my favourite is probably 2/18/71. Listen to it. Jerry greats crazy with the wah pedal and phil just pounds through the jam. Killer performance
@@herbythechef7624 that colorsound pedal is a deadheads wet dream 🤤
you're the maaaaaaaan! thanks for sharing davvyyy!
You’re the man!
So...so...so great ! Was mucking about with this earlier this week and I was lacking in some di-rection... and now here it is... Thank you !
Always happy to oblige, Scott!
Davvy, another great breakdown! And I dig that guitar you have there....what is it if you don't mind my asking?
That’s my Phred Wolph
@@TobyDavvy I will be working on Dark Star today....gonna think about my acid days as I get into this and get really psychedelic with the music. Jeff Williams provides an excellent backer for this.
Can I follow this tutorial with a acoustic?
What scale are you riffing on at the end?
Do Spanish Jam and/or Calvary by Quicksilver Messenger Service
great lesson bro. can u do unbroken chain when you get the chance?
Yessir! It’s on the list!
Can't wait for Unbroken Chain!
Thankyou For sharing man🇳🇿☮️✌️
Thank you for watching!
Sweet thanks. Is there a tonal center scale for the jam?
It’s a mixolydian mode. I wanna say A Mixo.
Thanks!
@@jonathanroselaw agreed. E dorian is the same as A mixo but will give you more beautiful tension in the tonal center. if you want to sound like the Live Dead recording go E dorian
Davvy. Your work is Amazing. Thank you. Estimated prophet would make my life complete. I learn songs better from you and would really appreciate it!! ✌🏻
You got the second phrase of the chorus wrong. You need to hold the word “Through” longer I think they sing it for 5 beats then the ascending line starts on “The transitive nightfall of diamonds” the word diamonds is for that last descending melody. Sounds like you got the rest of it right though.
After listening back, yeah, you’re right. Most versions work out like that. I’ll have to find the versions I’m referencing and drop the link. But thanks for this!
@@TobyDavvy my pleasure. I love the channel. Keep up the good work... Jerry would be proud 🥀
i noticed too. Was looking for a dead conoseiur comment explaining it. But apart from that, it is a great dark star lesson, very detailed and usefull, so thanks toby and davvy
Didn't Robert hunter say that he wrote Dark Star because that's what it seemed to him they were trying to do when he heard them play?
Lol funny you say dmt. I flipped on Veneta 72 dark star the first time I blasted off
Thats a top dark star for me. By the middle of it jerry sounds like hes going 200 notes a minute
The One☝🏼72’ Veneta
can you do throwing stones next?
⚡️❤️💀❤️⚡️
Screw the negative comment , your doing your best and that my friend is all that matters 🌘🌠billy b
The 'Guy" is COOL
The guy thanks you
@@TobyDavvy the dude abides
@@TobyDavvy , Any time Davvy :)
"The thick bitch of the song" dig the videos bruh u got a new sub here. appreciate ya
Thanks for joining the fam!
Ya ! machine elves and self-dribbling basketballs. You rock !
This guy gets it!
Davvy, I made some changes and I am pretty much good with this now. Three days of recording this one. Not really playing like Jerry. If anything I think I hear a cross between Trey and Jerry, but mostly it's me man. I had a great time! Hope you dig this one....let me know. ua-cam.com/video/zgnrHlX_4dI/v-deo.html
shut the frackadoodle door. a.how dedhedz on youtube and I don't know bout them? b. dark star guitar lesson/tutorial/teachy-thing?? ambitious. i dig it. c. i actually don't have a third point but two seems silly to bullet with letters, so....I'm in this now. I'm seeing this comment thru to the end, dammmit. your intros are funny. that could have been a d. moment, but 3 is more auspicious or somthing. I should probably keep watching. Commenting when I've only seen the intro....its what I do. mtgirl....out.
Fucking awesome, thanks man!
You got it, Mark!

HOW TO PLAY DARK STAR
First step: Take a lot of ACID
unfortunately not that easy :/ lol
I disagree, I think Viola Lee Blues was their first big jam vehicle.
That’s very fair
Lol
This is so bad. You literally are making this so difficult. Lmao.
People, if ya wanna learn Dead just put a song on and play along.
Everybody look at Stephen! He’s so big and strong. He’s so smart. He once jerked a donkey and tossed a salad for Nancy Regan all while gargling his own mothers breast milk. What a talent.
