Good
I was originally taught to count these odd-time cycles in groups of 2 and 3, so this would be: 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3, etc, with the 1s being on the downbeats (or accents). Do you count this way? I wondered why you always did the full count to 9 in this excellent and inspiring demonstration!
Edit: I had mistakenly put the counts of seven above; it has now been corrected to 9/8 time signature. Sorry for the error!
9 is the time signature, 2-2-2-3 (for the sake of the comment) is the sub grouping of the time signature. i counted the 9 to demonstrate a cycle of 9 beats.
Yshai, do you ever come to the United States? Your playing is exquisite!
Thank you! I have been to the states many time.. i dont have booked dates at the moment, but im sure i will be back sooner or later :)
Yshai Afterman I saw on FB that you’re friends with Roni Eytan, the chromatic harmonicist. He played at my jazz club a bunch of times; he’s a great kid and great musician!
Lovely playing ! Nice Riq too ...what make is the riq ?
Looks like a Hassan Abdel Magid by the H A on the side.
What is the brand of this riq?
+Whitelotus Ahmad Al Magid, Cairo
was this composed or improvised?
Lucas Jansen the very first phrase is a structured idea.. other then that its all improvised.
amazing love how Itamar just can clap with you and can keep clapping. This 9 beat solo is trully amazing!
Lucas Jansen thank you Lucas!
