Nice! For bass, you may consider the acoustic one, since it'll keep your tone clean. The other guitar models probably cut the low end and push the mids, so unless you want that sound, I'd probably not get those (although in a pinch, they'll do). Maybe wait if you can for the bass model. I know it is hard, hehe.

That's the idea. Gives you a nice warm tone over headphones. Really enjoyable to play. With a bit of cabling, you can even use it for recording (bit noisy for that, but the tone chip in there is golden).
Hewwow. Elmer Fudd here. I notice your bass, next to the drums, was vewy vewy quiet. Are the drum loop volumes adjustable, or can the bass be adjusted louder?
It's not a speaker, so you do have to plug something else into to get sound. It can be headphones, or a regular speaker, or directly to your computer. They actually sell a little speaker that's meant to be paired with this called the 'AmPlug 2 Cabinet', which works pretty well. Just remember that anything besides headphones needs an audio cord to connect them, and you have to buy that separately.
How well does it sound with a 5 string? Also, is the Bass volume always so low compared to the drum beats? Thank you very much for your review!! It was super helpful :3
Hey , so you can regulate the beats and the bass separately. I just like drums loud and punchy :) Not sure how a 5 sounds - I'm sure fine, but it will depend on your headphones (how low can they go).
Hey man you're welcome. So it offers 3 amp settings, a combination of Boost and Compression setting. Also tone control. The changes are not extreme - you'll get more punch, but the tone doesn't break up. on either of the 3 settings. For distortion a guitar Amplug2 might be better, although you might loose some bass frequencies.
Hey great review! If i may ask, do you think it would work with passive bass or does it even matter whether it's active or passive? And can i connect my phone to it and jam to backing track from spotify etc? Thanks!
Thanks for watching - and yes, active or passive does not matter. you have three preamp settings, greed, orange, red, that deal with different incoming volume levels. My bass here is passive, and I have an active bass too. And yes, you can connect your phone/computer etc via AUX in to play to a track. Everything can be adjusted with the volume knob and tone knob on bass, to make sure it blends well.
+Estefania Burbano Yes , via the headphone (acts as a line output) jack, to the line input / headphone port of your macbook pro. Adjust levels accordingly on both sides, to avoid distortion.
Yeah, you can save as mp3 (with different options), or as WAV file (uncompressed). 16 bit, 24 bit etc all possible, as well as Sampel rates 44.1, 48, 88 and 96khz. Lots of flexibility there.
It is designed to play through headphones - but you can also use the output to go into an audio interface, your computer, or phone, or even bigger stereo system - in that way, you can amplify your bass guitar, and benefit from teh fat, warm sound of the Vox. And of course the metronome, and EQ.
Damn that sounds good for it's size. I heard that as the batteries start running out it starts to sound worse until you change them, is this a problem you have come across?
It eats batteries pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend to buy rechargeable battery (2xAAA size) and a charger in case you`re planning to use it frequently. It will pay for itself quickly and more enviromentally friendly. I use rechargeable batteries and notice NO worsening in sound whatsoever. By the way I use it every day for 1-2 hours on the average, and charge the batteries once a few days.
Wheelly hey im a beginner bassist and have just bought my 1st bass. However i don't have an amp. Do you think i should invest in this? As im on a tight budget, id prefer cheap options
Apple Peel. I would definitely recommend one. I have a Hughes & Kettner BK 515, but with the Amplug I can move around my apartment and even go busking with it. It's a bargain for £38, I'm not sure what that is in dollars.
Yes they work actually very well. I was surprised how good the bass sounded. Warm, and not harsh at all. I also used big headphones (Beyerdynamic 770Pro, and it has no problem driving them. )
Tell me, If I had a fretless bass, would this little vox worked on it? And I think I know the answer for this... I have a Boss Katana Mini amplifier, it's not gonna work if I plugged a bass on it, right? What happen If use amplifier guitar for bass? Thank for your time and have a great night!
Would it be safe to plug this into a portable speaker instead of headphones, or would the low frequencies damage the speaker in a similar way that a guitar amp gets damaged when bass is played through it? Thank you for any information!
Shouldn't be a problem. The gain may be too high for speaker amp to handle so crank the amplug volume down if it starts crackling on your speakers. I used them on my 2.1 Edifier S530D. Not ideal as it makes the tone sound "separated" where bass is sent to the bassy subwoofer and growl n bite all on the fullrange. A pair of fullrange bookshelves would do better though you'd lose the deep bass if you don't have speakers bigger than 6.5"
So is this an amp that only the person who's wearing the headphones can hear? Because I live with loads of people and don't like to disturb people with my practice.
Well technically it''s a preamp, combined with a headphone amp. It takes your electric bass signal and amplifies it , and then passes it on to a headphone amp, which powers your headphones. You could run this into a PA system instead of headphones.
Thank you for this product review. Do you run your Beyerdynamic headphones directly into the Amplug? I was curious to know how it sounds with a 250ohm set?
hi, yes I have been using the BD 770 and 990 (Pro, 250Ohm Versions), that' s a good question since the manual doesn't make a note. The preamp has plenty of power, so that the sound isn't flat when connecting standard high impedance studio grade headphones.
I use K240 semi open headphones. The K240 sound excellent on my bass guitar. It has low impedance, but I still have to turn the volume dial to 8 for it to sound like I am virtually filling the room with bass. On the Amplug, I have actually practiced until the batteries run out. There is no fade, the light goes off and it still has good play ability for a little while without having to crank up the volume. The built in rhythms are fantastic. Open headphones are wonderful for play along to a metronome or drum machine for practically silent practice. I do plan to get the DT990 Pro as they really look comfortable. There are some great headphone tube amps like the Bravo Audio V2. You can even replace the tube with a 12AX7 for a warmer vintage sounding VOX.
hey! i own a zoom h6 and was thinking about getting some headphones to mix tracks(using the h6 as an audio interface) and i saw you have the beyerdynamic dt 770 250's. would you recommend them for that type of use?
They are fantastic, for tracking (because isolating), practice (slightly enhanced bass) and to a degree mixing. Would recommend the lower impedance 80Ohm or 150 Ohm (if I recall correctly) version, as they dont require a dedicated pre-amp. The standard version is 250 Ohm. As for the H6, perhaps go check out the H8, it is built for that use. A multi-track recorder (not just field recording), and a better audio interface from what I read.
Hi, I wonder why I couldn't hear any sound from my bass when I plug this in. I could hear static noise and drum sound though. Any suggestions? My bass is Yamaha TRBX304. Thanks in advance.
@@massivebeatzz awesome and if you have a reglar amplifier with headphones jack it works exactly the same as soon as I connect them to amplifier I can play the whole night and nobody will hear me? reason I'm asking is I saw few comments people saying that it doesn't work for them and that sound is still coming out of the amplifier and I got confused.
NO.. Bluetooth has too much latency. I've researched it to death! I bought the latest Bluetooth 5 transmitter with Aptx HD and LL codecs to test it. NOT EVEN CLOSE to real time! You either need to hard wire a headset to your amp or bass, or get a proper in ear monitor system. Period! Maybe the new Galaxy Audio AS-950 for $199 might do it.
My bass is a high output active bass, any good for those? My bass has given some pretty experience sound techs trouble. It tends to drive preamps whether I want it to or not. I can back off volume of course but if this is just going to cause clipping it's probably not suitable for my purposes.
Well that will depend on how extreme that output is. Normal active basses, easily! I has a good amount of headroom. And you have 3 gain settings, low normal high - to prevent input distortion.
Hmmm. It's an 18V Rockfield pre-amp through two massive Rockfield Humbuckers that together pack a serious amount of power and the low B doesn't help that. If I string the bass through body the low end is too much but luckily it has a flat top option because of the bridge. Oh well I think on this one I'll have to try it in person to be sure, I already bought a di/pre-amp that is useless because of the distortion (didn't happen when I tried a Jazz bass). Thanks for the reply!
basically enough juice to light up the city !;) not bad! maybe add 55-110 strings, (140 B-string) and an Octaver - that'll take care of all circuits! ;) instant fry! ...haha
well, you have 3 grooves in there, and you can adjust the tempo. Metronome also. It's just meant to help you out. But with AUX in, you can connect a phone or other device.
This might be a stupid question, but can I plug it into my amp ? It's a little practice amp, so I only have two inputs : the instrument one and a "mix", I guess I can use the latter, but I ask to be sure.
I got this in the mail a few days ago and I like it so far but the batteries just ran out on me.. should I get rechargeable batteries or is that bad for it?
yes absolutely! Mine lasts me like forever. I included the link in the description, but here it is again: amzn.to/2iAi8kr They have way more power than regular or Duracell rechargeable brands.
facts! I turn the tone down, for a fat nice bass tone. but if you boost those highs, it's too noisy - don't see why anyone woudl do that. Probably, if you have an active bass, with humbuckers, there will be no issue. But single coild (Jazz BAss, P-BAss), keep these highs rolled off :)
Short answer: a close back , comfortable 80Ohm (or less) over the ear headphone. Long answer: I was surprised that it drives my 250Ohm Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, something phones struggle a bit with. The bass is still clear with plenty of volume, and the headphone isolates well. In general I'd say get a closed back headphone that is light, and has a cable that is not too heavy, and try to get something in the 80Ohm range. Beyerdynamic makes their Headphones with lower impedance options so that they can work with mobile devices, and many Audio Technica etc work great.

Gary Anderton haha im Indian and it's in rupees but still thankyou so much! Fortunately or unfortunately i already got an Ibanez amp!
I noticed you had the Apple earphones connected to the amp, is that ok to use or do I need to buy headphones?
Yes they work actually very well. I was surprised how good the bass sounded. Warm, and not harsh at all. I also used big headphones (Beyerdynamic 770Pro, and it has no problem driving them. )
@@massivebeatzz cheers!
Tell me, If I had a fretless bass, would this
little vox worked on it? And I think I know
the answer for this... I have a Boss Katana Mini
amplifier, it's not gonna work if I plugged a bass
on it, right? What happen If use amplifier guitar for bass? Thank for your time and have a great night!
Yes. Just turn the treble (high) filter all the way down, and you get fretless smooth sound.
A pair of fullrange bookshelves would do better though you'd lose the deep bass if you don't have speakers bigger than 6.5"
What is the best?
VOX Amplug 2 or iRig 2?
I'd go with the VOX, just for fun factor.
Would u recommend these portable amps for a absolute beginner getting into bass ?
yes, it's a great fun tool, that you will be using for a long time. Tip - get good headphones that go over your ears.
@@massivebeatzz also do i have to keep putting batteries in these?
The drums sound very good, the bass guitar I don’t know because have no volume
Haha thank you! Well that' s not good - I wanted to show the bass. Gotta do another video.
Could you connect this to a small battery powered speaker for say jamming with an acoustic guitar?
yes you could !
Does The sound come from that Little thing? Or only The headphones?
it is through the headphones. It does not have a speaker built in.
So is this an amp that only the person who's wearing the headphones can hear? Because I live with loads of people and don't like to disturb people with my practice.
i live in a basement suite so i dont want to piss off my upstairs people
yes correct! Only you!
Is the Vox AmPlug and amplifier on its own? Or is it just used to link your bass with a headphone or an amplifier?
Well technically it''s a preamp, combined with a headphone amp. It takes your electric bass signal and amplifies it , and then passes it on to a headphone amp, which powers your headphones. You could run this into a PA system instead of headphones.
Do you use the 250 or 80 ohms headphones and if you use the 250 was it loud enough?
Yeap, the 250 Ohm, and is loud enough!
can you hear the bass for your headphones and at the same time the sound exit from an external amplifier?
it only has one output. So you have to choose headphone or amp output, or PA system etc.
will it also work for a regular guitar?
Yes it would! Nice clean sound for funky or acoustic stuff.
How do you change the tempo ? Nothing about this in the manual. Cheers.
Hold down the switch with rythm selection and then use the volume for the rythm as well..
You can even replace the tube with a 12AX7 for a warmer vintage sounding VOX.
think it can be used in a makeshift way for distortion guitar? want it for both instruments but don't really want to buy 2 different ones
bit of saturation yes, but not enough distortion for guitar, even if you use the hottest amp simulation (it has 3 different gain models).
How many inputs can you Connect to the vox headphone amp?
I want to connect my guitar and smartphone so I can rehearse whilst listening to a track.
Exactly. You can connect 2 - the bass (or guitar) and then an external device such as phone.
I FUCKING NEED IT NOWWWW, damn its awesome
hey! i own a zoom h6 and was thinking about getting some headphones to mix tracks(using the h6 as an audio interface) and i saw you have the beyerdynamic dt 770 250's. would you recommend them for that type of use?
If I recall - TRBX304. is an active bass. Have you tried changing the battery? And make sure the volume (for bass) on the VOX is turned up ?
@@massivebeatzz Thanks so much! Turns out I put the batteries in incorrect position-on the opposite polars in my bass guitar, haha
You call it a jack 0.31, but it is called a plug. A plug goes into a jack.
Thanks for catching that. Not a native speaker, but no excuses :)
@@massivebeatzz You are welcome. You also made the same mistake on your review of the Boss ME-80.
I can connect 3.5mm jack headphones? I see this setup in 0:50. Is it possible to hear only guitar in headphones without drums?
Yes of course - both things are possible! no problem.
I want one but wonder if my Bluetooth transmitter and earbuds will work with it. Also will my low B be too much for it?
Thanks for the reply!
basically enough juice to light up the city !;) not bad! maybe add 55-110 strings, (140 B-string) and an Octaver - that'll take care of all circuits! ;) instant fry! ...haha
Got shocked on my head couple of times using this device and bose noise canceling headphones, after that never used it again, was torture
how is that possible? There is nothing on this device that can shock you. and it doesn't go on your head. Can only be the bose headphones..
What's the name on your bass pickups?
Seymour Duncan Basslines STK-J2N - Hot Stack Jazz Bass
@@massivebeatzz That's great thanks 😎👍
with drum beats package inside???
well, you have 3 grooves in there, and you can adjust the tempo. Metronome also. It's just meant to help you out. But with AUX in, you can connect a phone or other device.
Really dumb question, I'm new to this,if I use this in a Strat would it produce deeper tones or does it have to be used in a bass guitar? Thanks
I think you;d get a clean tight sound that'll be great for riddim guitar. I used it once or twice. Funky!
@@massivebeatzz thanks I may look into it if that's the case
Can you plug in any type headphones?
Yes you can!
I was just wondering. Is it possible to feed music and the bass through the headphones?
Yes you can! It has an aux input!
Can it work like an amplifier?
like a pre-amp of sorts, yes.
Question, how do you connect this for recording and what software?
You could take the headphone output into your audio interface.
This might be a stupid question, but can I plug it into my amp ? It's a little practice amp, so I only have two inputs : the instrument one and a "mix", I guess I can use the latter, but I ask to be sure.
I agree...this is not a hi-z output meant to go to an amp! the mix input would be a better impedance match!
I got this in the mail a few days ago and I like it so far but the batteries just ran out on me.. should I get rechargeable batteries or is that bad for it?
yes absolutely! Mine lasts me like forever. I included the link in the description, but here it is again: amzn.to/2iAi8kr They have way more power than regular or Duracell rechargeable brands.
massivebeatzz thanks man
How do u record ur bass playing while having the amplug plugged in?
I ran into a Zoom H6 recorder from the AmPlug, and then put headphones on on the Zoom recorder to hear myself.
@@massivebeatzz Got it, thanks! Appreciate the fact that this video was posted years ago but u still reply to every comment
can i use this for a guitar? i need a plug for an electric guitar which has rythm patterns, but i can't find any
I have used it. You'll get a clean rhythm guitar sound out of it. Pretty dry because no reverb, but nice and tight.
ah cool, thanks man
I changed the batteries on the mini vox amp, but I still hear a tiny bit of a hum/static. Is this normal??
Could it be from your pickups? Does it change when you use both pickups , versus just one? It could also be a shielding issue.
Very hissy when you turn the tone up but just turn it down and up on the bass
facts! I turn the tone down, for a fat nice bass tone. but if you boost those highs, it's too noisy - don't see why anyone woudl do that. Probably, if you have an active bass, with humbuckers, there will be no issue. But single coild (Jazz BAss, P-BAss), keep these highs rolled off :)
first time bass player, is there any way to tune the bass with this ?
unfortunately not!
Hi I have been using mine for a couple months now and it keeps on turning off when I practice for a few hours I change the battery multiple times
What headphones would work the best on this device?
Short answer: a close back , comfortable 80Ohm (or less) over the ear headphone. Long answer: I was surprised that it drives my 250Ohm Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, something phones struggle a bit with. The bass is still clear with plenty of volume, and the headphone isolates well. In general I'd say get a closed back headphone that is light, and has a cable that is not too heavy, and try to get something in the 80Ohm range. Beyerdynamic makes their Headphones with lower impedance options so that they can work with mobile devices, and many Audio Technica etc work great.
Can the headphone jack run directly onto a portable speaker?
Yest it can!
