We continue our route through the Pyrenees leaving behind Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to return to Spain, at this time entering from Arnéguy to Valcarlos. A beautiful border crossing that will take us to the Pass of Ibañeta to reach the historic town of Roncesvalles. In this famous town we can see the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María ( www.roncesvall...) this is for many pilgrims the beginning of the Way of St. James that will lead them to Santiago de Compostela ( www.pilgrim.es.... After leaving Roncesvalles behind us, we cross the small town of Burguete completely covered in snow to end this stage on the detour to our next goal, the Irati Valley.

Me ha encantado Valcarlos, un pueblo en el que apetece quedarse una temporada. Pero después la ambulancia con la camilla y todo 😱, que mal rollito. En general todo el trayecto está muy guapo, el paisaje increíble.
Justo nada mas pasar la frontera...Valcarlos es espectacular, asi alargado, en cuesta...de hecho hice este video en esa zona para pasar tanto por alli como por Roncesvalles, y en invierno nevado, le da un toque precioso a las tomas

Having walked the Valcarlos route it is fascinating to zoom past som parts of the road. Quite after Valcarlos the path goes up and meet the Chapel of Ibaneta through the woods and then on to the Monastery of Roncesvalles. Just as I arrived the heavens opened and snow came down. The very reason I took the low route in the first place...The Pyrenees demand respect - Thanx for the view
